  • This is a big one, because today we're reviewing not just one but three new technologies from Zeiss - all in a single stock lens. Affordable and with a fast turnaround, these lenses are setting a new standard for optics in your glasses.
    ClearView is setting a new standard for stock prescription lenses.
    BlueGuard meanwhile represents the latest blue light blocking technology.
    Finally, PhotoFusion X means your glasses become sunglasses faster than ever.

    For various reasons, I move my frames so they are supported on different locations on my nose / positions on my face. The advantage of spherical design was viewing still becomes feasible although the off centre view is comprised. Would ClearView be even more compromised? Is it correct Zeiss are phasing out all spherical designs; to be replaced with ClearView?

    Hi there, I really love your videos in which you show us elegent, amazing spectacles and modern, up-to-date technology. Esecially, your shorts videos introducing stunning spectacles from brands like Cartier, Reykjavík, etc. make me feel tempting though my glasses are still very satisfying. As I worked with computer a lot everyday, lastmonth I pre ordered Zeiss SV Blueguard lens, without knowing that Clearview technology has been available. I asked my retailer about Clearview but he didn't even hear about it. Is there any way that I can check if my ordered lens have Clearview technology?

    • @thespectaclefactory

      Good question... unfortunately ClearView don't have the normal laser engravings on the inside of the lens, so it's difficult to verify. (They do still have the Z logo in the corner though)
      You could always ask your optician to show you a print off of their order with Zeiss. That's the best way to make sure

  • @Reprobator
    @Reprobator Рік тому +2

    I've just seen this after getting my first pair of Zeiss lenses. I got the Clearview 1.74s and to be brutally honest I haven't noticed a significant increase in sharpness. Maybe a marginal increase in sharp viewing area, although that may be complicated by the increased aberrations created by a higher rx and a higher index compared to a 1.5 lens and a smaller rx.
    The Platinum coating however? Phenomenal. Instantly noticed a reduction in reflections and the antistatic properties were a game changer in keeping them clean. I do like them a lot.

    • @Reprobator
      @Reprobator Рік тому

      No, I'd had another pair also with 1.74 lenses in the same rx for a few months prior to getting the Clearviews. Still very nice lenses though and I found them very easy to adapt to compared to the previous pair. Always felt like I never fully adapted to the old pair but it was effortless with the Clearviews. Although of course this could be due to other factors like measurements and frame adjustment as you know. Always hard to tell.

      Yeah I think that will come next year when I have more experience with it. I don't like to rate something until I really know it inside out. And the thing with photochromic is that EVERYONE has a different opinion on them. Some people want them to go dark fast, some people want them the go clear fast, some people want them to go super dark, some people don't want them to go very dark. So I want to get feedback from my clients over the next few months.
      Plus on top of that, it's winter and therefore not the best time to be testing it.

    Photofusion X looks great
    The last time I got Zeiss blue light was the last. After 1 week I got rid of them. I even wrote Zeiss.
    1) at night you’d see a blue double of every street light.
    2) colors are off and look like they have a slight yellow. So definitely don’t get if you work in photography or branding etc
    3) when you do see reflections they are usually blue and stand out more.
    All these things got annoying to myself and made me never want any blue light filters. Plus the science is out on it. But maybe this new technology is better.

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  Рік тому +5

      Well there is certainly no blue reflection on these lenses. Most people didn't have an issue with the old tech (it's dependent on the frame as to whether those reflections angle in to your eyes BTW) but a lot of people like yourself were sensitive to it. So it's great that you can get blue light protection now, if you want it of course, without a reflective finish.

I have not performed any timed tests to see if they match their claims, but every aspect of them is better: the clarity, the color of the lenses (so superior to Transitions), the time it takes to change, etc. I am a HUGE FAN.

      There is no such product made by Zeiss Germany as AS DriveSafe. The DriveSafe design is inherently not aspherical. Maybe in the US, where they licence the lens designs, they might be able to create weird combinations, but you would be losing most of the functionality of the product.
      The Zeiss freeform lens design is the most important component of DriveSafe. Changing it to aspherical would make no sense.
      Here in the UK, they are roughly the same price as SmartLife.

    "No visible tint at all" - I got ClearView 1.74 -9.75 with Photofusion X grey and Blueguard. I put them in a crystal frame. The glass is yellow tinted. It looks really bad, because it renders the look of the clear Porsche frame useless. It looks like my liver is not working correctly. But why is it yellow? My optician told me it's normal, because Photofusion X leaves a 3% color (which is the first time I heard that, and the colour I chose is grey, not yellow…) and the material in combination with -9.75 also is yellow-ish. Is that really true? Is there any combination which gets me a really clear glass?

    From everything I have seen and heard the blue light thing is bit overhyped and as you say definitely not proven to cause any serious medical problems, I think at worst for some people it will give eye strain. UVA UVB protection is way more important and it's great to see this built in to a clear lens. Regarding the photofusion X under what conditions do they get to the darkest state? My mate has a pair and with an ambient temperature around 26 degrees Celsius I have not seen them get completely dark.
