- Опубліковано 24 кві 2024
- What was the best Pauper deck ever? We made our community vote for one deck to represent each year since 2010, recruited 16 Pauper Experts to play a 5-round tournament, and now we bring you each match of the Top 8. Carl is playing Thoralf and either Chatterstorm or Elves could be knocked out of the tournament.

Id say theres no way chatterstorm loses but given the results of the last match with pestilence im keeping an open mind. Love this series!
So I thought about this one a bit. It actually makes a lot of sense how Pestilence lost to Goblins. Basically Goblins is just a burn deck. And Pestilence also burns the Pestilence player. So the Pestilence player is basically just helping the Goblins player. I think that matchup is highly dependent on who is on the play.
@@crawdaddy2004
But 2010 goblins still is a very bad burn deck.
@@crawdaddy2004if u look at the Swiss rounds pestilence went 2-0 against goblins
Well Carl clearly punted game 2, not playing the Land turn 2 and with the double chatterstorm play. But I'm still glad storm lost.
I expected goblins to win that MU.
I expect chatter to win this one
That H.Blast was a master class smokescreen. I didn't even see it. Phenomenal play. Karls reaction was spot on.
I was so confused as to why he didn't leave 2 untapped elves, as well. Amazing plays by the card market team as always.
as an ex avid elves player I was right with thoralf thinking he had to play the timber watch hehe
For real
Carl clearly loves playing the villain 😂
He is indeed the bad guy this time, after being the underdog in modern! haha
Love the moment at 12:55 where Carl is explaining what all of his cards can do for him, the Thoralf just goes "and this is a Duress!" So funny for no reason.
damn, sideboarding between second and third game took so long that toffal got a haircut - and they didn't even change any cards!
Yeah Its look like it
Yeah that definitely threw me off a little, lmao.
How the hell did you even notice that? 🤣
I'm glad we got to see Chatterstorm going off at least once.
carl is really up there with just the right amount of smugness when explaining his win (i love it)
"storm is the least likely to be reprinted"
newest set has a card that can grant ANY card storm
"uhhh...."
The storm scale is just for standard sets, the newer storm cards came from modern horizons
Commander precons don't count, they're not even Modern legal
What card are you refering to?

Thoralf just loves playing elves, he does it at every opportunity.
He's genuinely happy in this video.
Quirion Ranger is one of my all time favourite cards, and this match proves why!
Toffel is all good vibes, all the time.
@@petermoglia happier than usual
@@sh41 same Quirion Ranger is one of my favorite cards, I actually have a CGC graded 10
There's a reason Toffle is a continental champion.
found the perfect line in both his wins. did not see that hydroblast coming!
EXACTLY!!!!!
OOOH! Today his name is ThorELF!
That was a sweet game, the hblast outta nowhere 😂
People forget about the alternate mode for Learn, which can often be very relevant in chatterstorm. You can opt to loot instead of pulling in a lesson. I don't think it would've mattered, but that would've been the line I'd go for in the second game. Make the red mana, plan to loot away the chatterstorm in hand and see what you get.
Of course with hindsight red mana was definitely the right play.
Learn doesn't loot, it rummages. That's probably why he didn't go for that line.
That's true, but it doesn't change the line, except that Carl might have forgot he had cards in hand instead of exile.
Carl's misplay- if you want to call it a misplay, is an interesting lesson in that making the "safe" choice- manamorphose into double chatterstorm, isn't always the correct play. sometimes you gotta pray for topdeck lethal and go for it when you're facing down an opponent who is also popping off.
Yeah, it is such a fascinating example of playing to win vs playing to stay alive. In this scenario, making two green is on average what keeps Carl alive for the longest amount of time, but that is almost a guaranteed loss for the storm deck playing against elves that are popping off. But making red is playing to win, playing to draw another mana producing spell off the top of his deck, and in my opinion, has a far higher chance of victory than just casting two chatterstorms.
Well done! Thoralf had some excellent reads and timings. Carl was able to show the sheer power of the deck well. All in all, a good match!
Favorite episode yet, love seeing both decks get to do their thing
@@theelectricant98 agreed! The first two Pauper matches were ... unexciting, which is the way things go sometimes. This had some excellent back and forth!
That upset was on par with the Prismatic Black in the Standard tournament!
As soon as the song at 15:07 kicks in on a Cardmarket video, you know the turn ahead is about to be sweet.
I need to know what song this is, I heard it in the Jund history video and I was hooked
The editing at 16:45 is just amazing. Great work!
What a match…
That was so much fun to watch I love the best deck ever series.
What!!! This video had an incredible ending!!!
Seriously! That's magic for you!
Carl sent 2 cards to exile that should have been in his hand 😂
I mean he can cast neither of those cards
Heads up: The Storm Scale is MaRo’s personal opinion on how likely mechanics are to return in Standard legal sets. The Storm Scale isn’t official and it doesn’t track how likely they are to return in supplemental sets.
The game play videos are litterally my favorite, never stop being you cardmarket! ❤
Whooo! What a match! Glad to see both decks do their thing, and thanks for explaining so well.
Love the pauper content! Great series!
Wow, what a battle, I think Thoralf may have demoralized Carl with his beautiful montage. Amazing video as always, super fun to watch.
Perfect timing! I love this series!
That was truly incredible, love it, as usual
at 1:25
can I say that technically the highest rated mechanic on the storm scale is "banding with" at 11?
We really need more “bands with homarids” cards
@@zanebarber8688 i unironically like banding
is not actually that complicated, can be summed up in "is the controller of the damaged thing to order how damage is dealt rather than the damage controller"
@@robertomacetti7069 That isn't all it does though
@@Pistolsatsean and you can block the entire band with only one creature
i glossed over the obvious part of banding to focus on the supposedly complex part
@@robertomacetti7069 but you did claim that "it can be summed up in" which is clearly not true, as you need more words to describe the effects of the mechanic, also in your description, still not covered is what constitutes being part of a band "Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band." That is why the mechanic is 11 on the storm scale, not because the mechanic is too complicated, but because it is impossible to explain without taking up an entire cards worth of text, and it isn't impactful enough to justify that design cost.
Games 2 and 3 were crazy! Great content as always, guys.
What a match, incredible job. Can't wait for the next match
I think this might actually be the best deck of all times.
Like in every format. I would be flabberghasted, distraught, completetly befuddled, if Chatterstorm doesn't win this. 😂
How confounded do you feel?

Absolutely blasted away@@justanothercommenter5835
This video has sold me on playing Elves, the deck just looks supremely fun!!
WOW, that was in-sane. Very excited with the results of this game, I'm really looking forward to the Goblins matchup :D
4:49 The music here adds so much to Carl’s dramatic timing. Whoever edited this, well done
It's me carl 🤓 I learned to talk in a way that would match my music edits afterwards
@@CardmarketMagic That's hilarious. I love the energy of doing something dramatic and already planning out what music is going to play when you do it
16:43 Edits like this are the extra spice that makes this the best MtG channel lol
I love this series its teaching me a lot about sideboards!
Unbelievable finish. Upset after upset so far!
What a good game, gj Carl at playing the villian!
I am sending you guys my medical bill, my jaw dropped and now I need a doctor to reattach it.
Holy! What a game!
Amazing set of games and very surprised by the outcome. 1 of those games went how I expected. The other two... 😅
100% on predictions so far. Not knowing any of the decks really helps 😂
Never expected this outcome😮
Is my childhood's dream to see in this final Elves vs Goblins. We are getting there!
I did not expect a match involving chatterstorm to be so much fun
Go Elves!!! I've had an elf deck since Urza's Saga! They just keep getting better!
if the storm count is 4 then you exile 5 cards with Galvanic Relay or am i missing something ?
You had me with the obviscated blue mana for the blast, i thought you'd made mistake.
Love pauper, love this series!
I clicked elves because I believed. Well played, this match really showed off pauper, and it's meta defying nature.
Pauper Elves is probably my favorite deck in magic. So glad to see it moving on.
Did I miss something or should Carl have still been able to keep one of those chatterstorms around the 15:00 mark since he just showed his hand and it was one of the cards in there (meaning he should have cast the 2 from exile)?
Yeah he should not have exiled them, he did it by mistake
Incredible hubris, incredible plays 😘👌
Wow, after that first game I understand the power of Squirrels. Insane.
I mean, emerkul does die to them
Pauper is AGAIN very satisfying. I've started on 5 Pauper EDH decks very recently, 3 of which are choose a background brews and 2 with an uncommon creature at the helm.
After seeing the first game, I was all in on team chatterstorm. But whew. That was one well-piloted elfball deck.
What! I did not expect that twist!
Hoping for the Elves vs Goblins final at this point :D Great games.
THORALF YOU MADMAN!
this was exciting!
That feeling when you go to Pauper for the slower gameplay but still run into that turn 2 storm deck win! T^T
What an upset. Great play by thoralf. But there were so impactful missplays in game 2.
The editing on this video is great. The way the cards in hand are shown and the life total placement its all great. The only thing is I don’t know what cards are being put in bottom after a mulligan. I’m always going back 10 seconds to figure out what they got rid of. If you could put a way to indicate the cards going on bottom that’d be great. Maybe highlight them with a gold boarder right before finishing mulligans? It’s just a suggestion. Great video as always!
you guys outdid yourself again!
This was kind of like the 2019 Tampa Bay Lightning vs Columbus Blue Jackets. Or maybe last year's Bruins vs Panthers. The gigantic favourite starts out looking unbeatable only to fall apart and lose to much rejoicing.
Did u ever do this turnament video format with only community decks? would be fun to see diffrent homebrews duel it out. love the videos!
Damn, that hydroblast outta nowhere.
I discovered Chatterstorm last year while making a modern Green-White Aetherflux Resevoir storm deck as I wanted to change up from my Blue/Red storm decks and thought it was... ok but nothing that exciting unless I had Cryptolith Rite out to turn them into mana. Crazy how much better any storm deck list is when you replace Revitalize with Manamorphose 😅
That HYDRO BLAST !! Whoooooo🎉🎉🎉
NOOOOOO WAY oh my god oh my god this is THRILLING I AM OBSESSED LETSGOOOO ELVES WHOOOOOOOO YEAAH BABEY WIERD TRIBAL DECKS TO THE TOP!!!!!!!!!
the only ONLY only dissapointment with this series is that because of how swiss worked out, we wont see elves v goblins in the finals! i am SO excited omg
"Storm is the least likely mechanic to be reprinted"
Storm is a 10 on the Storm Scale; Bands with Other used to be an 11.
Good thing I checked; it was officially moved to 10 this year.
Bands with other card incoming in Modern Horizons 3! (I’m kidding but it’d be hilarious)
@@viviblue7277 Hey, I'd love it
Man, counterspells really do get it done
19:27 holy shit that ruled

Thanks to Cardmarket en Andrea im looking to see if I can au paupee at my lgs😂 I got into magic playing commaner but tku should me that pauper js a fun and affordable format
I'm actually happy you didn't try to win game 2. Now we will get an iconic matchup
I was so happy when thorralf was playing. Lets gooooo!
This match had me torn because I love watching Carl win, but I also have been waiting to watch Thoralf win with his Pauper Elves for what feels like years.
that rite of flame at 14 40 lol
Fun match up.
Love that the last game finished with 1 land in play between both players 😅
Great video! Curious to see if play this match up another 10 times if the elves make any chance at all. I’ve played a lot of chatterstorm in pauper during the months it was legal and it was ridiculous.
We played 6 games before and sweeped all of them. But sometimes that's magic. It was the sake for the first quarters where Thoralf's Storm deck beat Andrea's 6 times in the practice rounds and then lost 0-2 once the camera was on
Plot twist i didnt expect after the first game. Wow!
Didn’t expect the 5-0 chatterstorm deck to be knocked out first round but kudos to elves
The fact that manamorphose was cast before nights whisper in game 2 hurt my soul but otherwise great content as always
Cardmarket team delivers again. Please post name of the players and participants! Great to know the ppl involved
We did :) you cans ee the entire Swiss rounds in the link in the description
Nice video.
it is an important distinction that was missed that first day of class says "when it enters, put a counter on it" as a triggered ability rather then "enters with" as a replacement effect.
The elf Montage at 16:50 🤣
Storm scale is specifically for being reprinted into standard for those wondering. Not just all reprints.
Holy crap what a win! I couldn't believe it. No way I thought chatterstorm lost.
Love this tournement
My prediction won! Woot woot for Elves.
Wake up babe! New cardmarket video dropped!
Guess this means initiative becomes the favorite deck . Sone place LSV is happy cause those cards are in his crazy cube
I'm not so sure, goblins feels like a pretty good match up against initiative, I think initiative beats everything else though.
Caaaaaarl! You kept forgetting to resolve the actual spells! You were only resolving the copies from storm! Caaaaaaaaarl!
Carl still having the crown hanging off his head in the interview killed me 😅
Anyone know the music playing before the peaceful music bit? That super upbeat funky one
LET'S GO!!! I'm so happy my favorite Pauper deck didn't just get slaughtered by Chatterstorm.
