Also clearly less male gaze would be good
Lets all just say, WE KNEW this was coming. Apothecary diaries was one of the few animes that had a HUGE fanbase that STAYED. Most animes that start out good end up losing momentum after the first episode... it's rare that an anime grows or keeps it's fanbase after episode 3.

Never thought I'd love an anime about some girl working in the Imperial Palace as an apothecary. Ends up being one of my favorite protags of the season for sure, arguably all-time if only talking women. Maomao's a treat to watch.

@@andyjo7838 Nope! Last "season" was two cours and each cour adapted one light novel :) So far there are 11-12 light novels translated into English, but the Japanese light novels goes to like 15-16.

It's great how serious they take this adaptation and how they really are trying to make it as good as possible and don't try to speedrun everything like adaptations usually do these days. Either way, with the lightnovel in the mid of double digits there is still a lot of maomao left to adapt :D

That was my favorite, and I really liked the emporer in that. He is questionable and all but how he pokes at jinshi there us kinda adorable and the fact he does not only not feel threatened by jinshi getting lead as worthy instead of him, but is elated by it says so much

Between first and second season was 7 years, then 4 years for the current season so it's going to be a while before I get something I fear 2. One has speculation about only being 2 years 3. One is apparently coming back next year 4. One is getting a movie - but no date set SO I AM WAITING FOR SO MANY AND GLAD I HAVE LESS TIME TO WAIT FOR THIS BEAUTY!

I watched the entire first season in one night and immediately afterwards decided to read the light novels. It’s been three days, and I’m almost finished the 9th book…
They definitely should go up to the end of LN 4. It really does wrap those arcs up well. Don't want them to delve past 4. There's so much material in 3 & 4 and it all connects together. If they went up into LN 5, that would mean glossing over things and there wouldn't be as good a point to end the season.

after about 20 seconds i stopped watching for potential spoilers.. but im so happy this is officially in production and on the calendar. this series has fantastic writing, great characters, *a fantastic soundtrack*, and is just a really entertaining format that makes you want to stay immersed.. i never expected this show to make it into my top 10 but its pretty much there, and im sure season 2 will add to how attached people get to this show. i also like that it forces you to think and speculate, without being too vague or complex. its not an ideal show for casual fans (although they can like it too), but its not overly complicated at all.
Apothecary Diaries has been what I was always looking for, stories of the ancient Chinese Inner Court! Maomao is one of the best written protagonists I've ever seen, not to mention every single character, even side characters have their own personalities and motivations Can't wait for season 2!
The first season was so good, I went and bought all available translations of the light novels. They didn't disappoint either and there's so much I can't wait to see animated 😍

This was one of the best anime’s we have received over the past 6 years. And it easily ranks in the top 10 if all time. I just hope the second season is just as good or better

A little optimistic but it would be nice if they cover LN 3 and 4. If they can do 5-6 even better but im sure they aren't going to do up to 5-6.
