Here's my gripe with the 24: how many times on the Fox broadcast in the last 150 laps did Jeff say, " looks like a tire rub on the 24." You had multiple pitstops, lots of miles to go, why didn't you fix it? It was a problem for so long.
Eric, love your videos. You’re being too hard on this race I think. Lots of interesting tire strategy, hard racing there towards the end, lots of comers and goers. I enjoyed last nights race.

Let me count those in his rookie season: Pocono-1 Both Michigan races Chicagoland Both Talladega races Coke 400 Las Vegas Kansas fall Charlotte fall Dover fall Bristol night race Etc, etc. Dude could have had a rookie season better than most championship seasons
Elliott has a reputation for choking when its on the line. Hard to blame luck when you spin the tires or give up a 4 second lead in the last 15 laps. Thats the driver, not luck.
In my opinion: it was a bad pit call. You’ve seen how important clean air was. You’ve seen other people’s mistakes in previous races. So I think it wasn’t smart at all
Hey, I just won the Coke 600 on iracing while nascar was racing the 600, except I finished at 2 am, just in time to watch this video, what perfect timing!
Props Eric. Thanks for mentioning the good year tire changes for this race. Old school journalism seemed to do more to pick up these tech nuances and report them during the race (I.e. Dave Despain era). Nowadays reporting seems so driver-centric.
They should have raced at Darlington again! Charlotte is usually a snooze fest anyway. Perfect example of why Vegas, Auto Club, Chicago, Kansas etc. Is a waste of time . We already have Charlotte!
Why change the tire tho? Like just straight up why? Such an amazing race last year and NASCAR decides to make another completely unnecessary change for the worse.
Damn, I wasn't expecting Miller Lite to not be on Brad Keselowski's #2 Ford Mustang for most of the season this year. I wonder if Austin Cindric will have a Miller Lite sponsor when he goes to the #2 Ford Mustang when he replaces Brad Keselowski? We're just going to have to wait and see, so many questions when it comes to this topic.
The reason clean air was king was because the cool race conditions, the upper groove at Charlotte never comes in unless it is a day light race or the track temperature is hot. Goodyear brought a harder tire to the track this year too and the fall off was negligible.
The first race that was actually scheduled to happen after the brake was the worst of the year and it wouldn’t have been any better if it was 100 laps honestly
JGR fails post race inspection: Nascar fans go wild and crazy saying they cheat all the time. Jimmie fails post race inspection: Nascar fans feel sorry and disappointment and blame the inspection process... This is based off my observations... lol.
As an Erik Jones fan I was excited to see him climb to the mid top fives. But the air literally prevented any good cars from getting to the front, I still enjoy that Brad.K got his first win at the 600 though.
That was a pretty cool win for Brad after that tribute package they showed for him I'm so happy for that family hopefully they stayed up to watch the finish
Having been in the stands for previous 600s, it really is quite long. But it's something that I really don't mind. It'd be nicer if it started a bit earlier. A 4 PM start would let you get out around 10ish, mostly since just about every 600 will be a 6 hour event. I need to eventually grab a ticket to go again, maybe next year's race will be open to fans.
This was a good race. Chase had a little bad luck at the end. It shows me this team is in looking to win a championship. The wins are coming soon. They are consistent. They will be hard to beat this season.
Byron.. said that he felt the tire was going down and decided to stay out, instead of pitting. Thus causing his teammate a win... When two laps left and teammate is leading.. should pit. But no... Hendrick teams are not working as a team but 4 teams.
Exactly regarding the length and the racing. If the racing was even just decent it would be tolerable that the race was over 4 hours maybe 5. The fact the racing wasn’t there at all last night made it a chore to get thru. Also, I agree on reducing race lengths. In fact I’d rather have reduced a bunch of race lengths before bringing on stages. As long as it’s between 300-400 miles for regular races and time wise over 2 hours but under 3 hours, then it would make things much better regarding bringing new sports fans. Now this does include keeping all the crown jewel events the length they’ve always been (Daytona 500, Coke 600, etc).
I'm trying to figure out how last year's 600 was so good and this year was so rough. It couldn't be the package bc it's the same package even though I've blasted it numerous times in the last 12 hours (can't get that one back) but why
i’m kinda surprised anybody pit during that last caution. i mean, i felt like we learned our lesson after what happened to Blaney and Bowman at Vegas. unfortunate though
I think Gustafson made that call because Chase was one of the two cars that fell back to last on the lead lap on the earlier restart, but the difference is he restarted third as opposed to first
The 4 stages and low tire drop off really limited teams strategies. Short pitting didn't gain much, splitting the stages was the only real choice, and long green runs made it hard to do anything different. NASCAR should consider making the Coca-Cola 600 a 3 stage race. This will break the same strategy in each stage, allow teams to get more creative, and open up the competition. Normally the 600 feels like a long endure race and i like that. Since the stages, it 3 heat races and a main with staying on the lead lap the primary goal.
Yeah. It makes zero sense to pit in that situation. Worst case scenario Chase ends up in the same spot they finished anyway but with as hooked up as that car was i think they had enough to finish. (unless fuel was a factor. I haven't looked into that)
I guess I am glad I went to bed after the half waypoint. While I have always supported the traditional races I wonder if the 600 is really needed anymore it. It was started as an endurance race because it was so difficult for the cars to make it that extra 100 miles, it was exciting to see who would make the whole race. But in the last 20 years, the cars are so good the only ones that DNF are the ones like Bowyer who crash out and there is few of those. The motors are built to last and you just don't see that excitement of who is going to survive the race anymore. Maybe it is time to do away with the 600.
What a crazy start! Denny Hamlin 8 laps down right off the bat! Chase getting screwed by his teammate! That stupid competition caution! I was scared when they took 30sec to honor the fallen soldiers. I thought most of the cars would have a problem refiring.
I might be wrong but wasn't it in your Podcast yesterday you said "wouldn't it be cool if Brad won in his Miller Lite paint scheme" Eric Estepp can possibly see into the future
Did you see where after the race, the FOX cameras showed Kyle Busch talking to Chase Elliott and trying to comfort him. As far as the tire issue, some of it could be affected by Ohio Gov. DeWine's stay at home orders (which may have affected Goodyear's Tech Center where they build all of NASCAR's tires). Either that or they built that particular tire compound to run at another track (remember that the entire NASCAR schedule got screwed up by the changes).
If the same rules package is able to create such a large disparity in racing entertainment between this year's and last year's 600, that sounds like we got a problem with the package. You can't have a racing package be so hit-or-miss like this
I am a huge Chase Elliot fan. I knew that something was going to rob him of that win. I had no idea it would be his teammate blowing a tire with 2 to go! That is so annoying! Like your shirt!👍

Chase showed he had speed with new tires and he shot up the field. I think once the caution came out he lost no matter what choice was made, but new tires gave him a chance to win if there was a 2nd green white checker.
No matter what, after tonight's race, there should be no doubt that Penske "should" resign Brad K, he is still a hard core racer and a champion and all the young guys that have been mentioned to replace him in the 2 are no guarantees to have great careers like Brad K.
