Dunno, I've seen like a few accidental clips which included that XQC guy and, so far, he just seems to me like the Zoomer version of some regular centrist dude.
It's just that with the generations the "I just want to grill" turned into "Whatever, dude, I just want to watch some random shit on the Internet (while it's streamed to thousands of people)".
I don't really see the appeal of actually watching such a guy for hours, but considering how many other much worse people you could be watching instead, this seems like a decently respectable position to me.

There's a fine line between a commentary channel and a react channel.
JonTron throwing shade at Game Grumps in an only semi-jokey way while on Game Grumps is really funny. And what's extra relevant is that apparently the Game Grumps channel has a somewhat regular segment reacting to their own videos (don't follow them any more but I remember seeing some of those in my feed from time to time).

Guys who react to movies would never be crazy enough to just show the whole thing, they either edit their reaction or tell their audience to watch the movie on their own device while listening to the audio commentary. Just link to the youtube video and tell the audience to watch along. Literally open that shit on another tab and you get the same experience while also ensuring the original creator gets views.

Consent after-the-fact or saying that monetary benefit trumps consent partially misses the point, assuming the use isn't transformative. If someone can use my work without asking for permission, or just "pay" me afterwards, still shows that society doesn't respect my property rights. Why should I make content in that case?

    • @RobertMorgan
      @RobertMorgan Рік тому

I feel the only reason to make content is if you have something to give away to public domain. If you profit, perish. I miss old school pre Google UA-cam when it was about content rather than cash. Get 10 million views, the payment was you got 10 million more people that zero to see your views, that's worth Billions. You have to have a message worth that, and I'll watch it for free or steal it, or not at all.
How the fuck did we get to where we're paying for digital content? It was never like this in the past. Knowledge needs to be free.
Now, I'd happily pay for actual costs, but not for time.
If UA-cam started charging creators for bandwidth they'd all be gone in a month. This video alone would cost Dev tens of thousands to host for a month.

There could be many creators who aren't happy with twitch reactbros but they aren't prepared to start shit with them, so they act cool because appeasing reactors' audiences and hoping you'll be" paid in exposure" is their next best option. Any content creator can ask a streamer to no longer stream their videos, and they have to respect that in the future. 2. The revenue of any VOD uploaded on the same platform where the content creator is goes to the content creator.

Firstly, the man can turn a 10 minute video into an hour long react video and his stream viewers constantly make fun of him for it.
As well, it seems like more than half the time he actively chooses channels or videos that are not super well known and there is a correlation that if you make quality content in WoW but just haven't hit that critical mass having him react to you will usually cause that start.
Thirdly one thing that he does is actively subscribes to the channel and tells his followers to do the same while actively choosing to not skip the ads that the person has.
I really think it just comes down to how much of an effort you put into transforming the content I would say around half or more of the length of the videos probably the correct amount of time but again it's the case by case basis

Two ways you could make this work out so everyone wins.
Organically: React channel viewers have the decorum to watch the videos either before or after watching a reactor’s reaction.
Mechanically: UA-cam setting it up so react channels can tie their views into the original video and/ or partner with twitch to do the same function.
If either was implemented then react channels would become the ideal signal boost and people would hate them less. However, both unlikely as it would require either for the cast majority of people to care enough to do more than they wanted to (good luck with that), or for UA-cam and/ or twitch to add a helpful function to their system.

I think that one point that seems to remain largely unadressed in this whole debacle is the total market impact of react streams. Specifically on UA-cam, react streamers are a strain on the whole platform. Reactors are able to produce videos at a much faster rate than original content creators, by piggybacking of original videos by the dozens in a single stream, allowing them and their fans to upload dozens of more clips, which then recieve impressions that would have otherwise gone to an actual content creator. By usurping impressions they can eventually hope to win over the youtube algorithm, further increasing their sway on the market as a whole. I highly reccomend DarkViperAU's videos on the subject (ua-cam.com/video/Irk8h0ax5aY/v-deo.html) as it seems he is the only one who has thoroughly laid out why this is such a big problem.

"watch parties" are not fair use. we have plenty of examples of that before the internet. Arenas, venues, bars, etc can NOT just display sporting events, etc for free, without paying for a license to do it.

One problem i have with the 'If you ask for Consent from the Creator it's okay' argument is sometimes those Creators may have alterior motives for their answers.
Take most of your TikTok Tuesday reaction videos, i'm pretty sure almost everyone in those videos would say no if you asked if you could react to their stuff, knowing you'd criticize and poke fun of them in your reaction.

I just watched all of Lemminos videos on his channel. I know I’m only one view and sub but it is because of this video. It was very insightful. I think the problem is that lemmino is already a multi millionaire off of making content and the users watching it on twitch to find out what XQC thinks weren’t interested in the video they just like hanging out with a crackhead.

Yes, I dislike the ad model and believe users have the right to block ads and trackers. You can't ban math on a computer. I pay creators I enjoy in other, more direct ways.
Yes, I also believe that someone reacting to a work should do so in a transformative way.

Ironic thing about TheFineBros was their style of videos was the least content-theft type of reaction videos. They only played certain clips and put links in the description. So many reaction videos don't link the original video and almost all of them play the entire original video, essentially making it an re-upload on someone else's channel.
