I´m just thinking about, HOW can someone create something this beautiful..Such beauty gives life a meaning...I´m really grateful for this band...They´re ingenial
When I was 15, I really wanted to listen to Godspeed you black emperor. I heard it on WMBR and I just thought about how great it was over and over again. I didn't have the funds to by the album, and it wasn't on like any filesharing network that would load, and every song was so big (20 mb) that there wasn't enough space on my hard drive. (it was 2005) this is so great that it is on youtube, I eventually ripped it from the library, but I'm glad youtube exists now for everyone to hear it
6 people with hearing disabilities 'disliked' this track.....WTF ??? Anyway TOMORROW night in Amsterdam i will finally see this band after waiting 10 years to see them. Bring it on!!!
One of the greatest songs by the greatest band ever... I swear, none of their songs EVER get old; they pack that same punch every time I hear them, and I've been listening to them heavily for years now.
If there's ever been a 21st century work of art that deserves to resonate through us all , this is surely it. Life conquers all: in sorrow, in triumph!
They started their set with this last night in Manchester and it was the greatest gig I ever went to in my life, as I had expected it would be! Godspeed are my all time favourite, and I've waited so many years for their reunion! Thankyou Godspeed wherever you are! X
anybody who listens to this piece more than once, anybody who knows they exist, anybody who knows how special this music really is...well you all deserve some good old youtube loving.
I read the first chapters of "the Silmarillion" while listening to this a long time ago, ever since then, when I listen to this song, it takes me back to those chapters, it fits so beautifully, The Music of the Ainur.
I love this song. Whenever I'm really sad, or something is wrong, listening to this song always makes me feel like nothing is ever as bad as it seems, and that everything will work out it the end. :) Thankyou for uploading this song.
i play this song to remind myself that being human is being divine i am in love with people all of them but sometimes, when it hurts, i need to listen to this and cry and then laugh and face another day with pure joy in my soul
God this whole music scene just totally blows my mind. Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Tortoise, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, God Is An Astronaut, these bands all touch a nerve that no one in any genre of music has ever touched. And this song is absolutely wicked.
Indescribable hearing those first notes when they play live, a wave of perfect harmony poured through the whole room. Truly the greatest band I'll ever know.
Amen... I remember first hearing this song on the way home from binge drinking and partying, the sun was rising, and i was on a highway, no traffic. Everything seemed to pass by my car in slow motion. When i hear this song i think of victory, glory, a battle being won, a birth, a touchdown, rockets launching into space for the 1st time, the sun rising, fireworks, a life being saved, sacrifice for mankind, people in the world uniting, an invigorating speech....
I love the wide range of instrumental textures, and the way it builds up... It's one of those things that reminds you to look for beauty in everything and take time to appreciate the universe. That sounds so stoned when I say it, but you know what I mean?
I'm going to see them in Prague in about a week. I can't wait. They were on "hiatus" for so long, I was sure I'd never get a chance to see them play live... There is a God!!!
@mogwai142 I'm in California(US) and I'm going to tomorrow's show over here.I can't wait! Their music is just awesome!I only found out they were having a show 3 days ago. Can't miss them cause you never know when they might stop playing again! Have fun in may for your show.
I do, dude. I was just talking about how this song crescendo's.... It reminds you of all the things that are beautiful in life. First kiss, a child birth, sunrise, first landing on the moon, etc....
I have the LP of this album and it's just .. This song begins slowly and it gets bigger and bigger and greater and at the expolosion i'm not anymore before my pc but high on a mountain listening to the vast everything of this song. It's like listening the sounds of fluids in a tree like rain on the grass. If i listen this i'm away and i don't want to turn back.
Look up, Hannah. The soul of man has been given wings. He is flying into the rainbow, into the light of hope, into the future, the glorious future that belongs to you, to me and to all of us. Look up, Hannah. Look up! Did you hear that? Listen...
Superb bit of music. Can't decide which is my favourite GYBE track - this, Providence, Moya or Mother*****=Redeemer. I like this song more than most because of its comparatively upbeat style, not quite so depressing!
Yes I know. Some people find it depressing, I do find it exhilarating as well. This song has hope written all over. Like Davekat says, I play this song in the morning to cheer me up, because the crescendo is just brilliant. Nothing like having this song in your head all day!
Yeah I saw them like 6 times, first time at a Sonic Youth concert in 1998 at the Metropolis in Montreal. Kind of easy for me because they are from my home town, Montreal.
Not sure if anyone caught this, but from about 6:25 to about 11:00, GY!BE uses the melody from Amazing Grace. Not completely, but you can definitely hear it in the guitar part, and a little bit in the backing strings.
At first I only had F♯ A♯ ∞ because I had heard it on the 28 Days Later soundtrack, and I thought I'd give this album a listen. I got through the first 11 minutes of this song and downloaded the entire Godspeed discography.
Well well I JUST saw them my ears are still buzzing!! Pretty good show (I didn't know the last album at all I'm too lazy) best part of the show was of course Mogwai Fear SAtan, which probably lasted around 20 minutes!! Awesome show.
I know exactly what you mean. I was listening to this walking home on a rainy night last week from some boring presentation, and at the beginning stages of this song, for a few seconds, maybe it was just my imagination, but everything just kind of dissolved away.
@gamersgene Ya are, what ya are - so speaks the essentialist. In my case that's a nerd - well figured. It is not so much out of place in the internet as one might be tempted to expect. Kudos

The first 6 minutes and 11 seconds are some of the best moment in music history... ever... the whole song is a masterpiece, thanks GY!BE
this is the single most uplifting piece of music ever created.
6 people with hearing disabilities 'disliked' this track.....WTF ??? Anyway TOMORROW night in Amsterdam i will finally see this band after waiting 10 years to see them. Bring it on!!!
This song takes me to a different world were every thing is beautiful, people, buildings..the world itself...well done YBE!

I can't say how incredible GY!BE is. They were, and always will be, some of the most talented musicians out there. Definitely my favorite band.
anybody who listens to this piece more than once, anybody who knows they exist, anybody who knows how special this music really is...well you all deserve some good old youtube loving.

This song is so peaceful and amazing. This is real music. It's a nice break from the metal I've been listening to lately.
I would argue that this is one of the most beautifully arranged songs in the past 100 years, truly amazing.
I love this song. Whenever I'm really sad, or something is wrong, listening to this song always makes me feel like nothing is ever as bad as it seems, and that everything will work out it the end. :)
Thankyou for uploading this song.
i play this song to remind myself that being human is being divine
i am in love with people
all of them
but sometimes, when it hurts,
i need to listen to this
and cry and then laugh
and face another day with pure joy in my soul
I don't know who you are, I don't know where you're from, but 12 years later in this crazy year we're having, I hope you're doing ok man.
I 2nd that. Cheers to you dude, hope is most powerful.

Make yourself a cup of coffee, find a quiet place the sit and totally relax, Now listen to this with the volume set at max. Incredible stuff.
Intensely beautiful....Uplifting & melancholy at once....just wow..
Thank you for uploading this music on youtube! It's about time the ''world'' discovers this genre :)
I love the wide range of instrumental textures, and the way it builds up... It's one of those things that reminds you to look for beauty in everything and take time to appreciate the universe.
That sounds so stoned when I say it, but you know what I mean?
this is for every tough it out moment in life, whether you end up winning or not-- this stirs your soul and that's all that really matters in the end
2019. Masterpiece.
i find it peaceful and beautiful..soothing to the soul..
I'm going to see them in Prague in about a week. I can't wait. They were on "hiatus" for so long, I was sure I'd never get a chance to see them play live... There is a God!!!
Definitely my favourite GSYBE song.I listened this song hundred of times ut always have shivers while listening
Good music still exists, this is wonderful.
Thank God-speed!

This is like some ancient Incan archaeological UA-cam right here .. I LOVE IT...
Easily one of the best songs I've ever heard. Absolutely breathtaking.
i love listening to this band so loud that the speakers start getting overdriven. that drive just makes it so incredible...
I cannot wait to hear the first twelve minutes of this song live in February.
hey friend, your comment is 10 years ago, you still around on planet earth?
This has to be one of the most epic songs ever written.
@mogwai142 I'm in California(US) and I'm going to tomorrow's show over here.I can't wait!
Their music is just awesome!I only found out they were having a show 3 days ago. Can't miss them cause you never know when they might stop playing again!
Have fun in may for your show.
i will literally weep if they play this song when i see them in Philly. what am i saying, i'll be in tears either way.
it hugs me all over. I love it so much.

this song is changing my life, really
True! That is what makes music great and timeless, in general, I believe.
You nailed it on this comment my friend. I never thought about it that way before.

Look up, Hannah.
The soul of man
has been given wings.
He is flying into the rainbow,
into the light of hope,
into the future,
the glorious future
that belongs to you,
to me and to all of us.
Look up, Hannah. Look up!
Did you hear that?
Listen...
Thank YOU, you just made me listen to this song once again... for the 1000 th time at least.
The greatest accompaniment to a joint I have ever known. :-)
Superb bit of music. Can't decide which is my favourite GYBE track - this, Providence, Moya or Mother*****=Redeemer.
I like this song more than most because of its comparatively upbeat style, not quite so depressing!
I really, really hope they're going to play this in Brussels, the 15th of January.
First time seeing them, I'm so excited ^^
The 6 minute introduction to "Storm", to me, is the BEST part of this album. Thumbs up if you agree. :D

Kind of easy for me because they are from my home town, Montreal.

simply perfect
the very best gybe album
Hier trop bon... (J'ai pleuré)! j'y retourne demain!!!!
Best album ever.
post-rock at its finest and most uplifting.
that's all i can say..
It's a shame GYBE are very strict about people using their music for movies. Music like this can lift an entire film to greatness.
thank you
This album may just be the greatest artistic achievement of the last quarter-century. Imagine you wrote this? Holy fuck...
This song always makes me happy to be alive ^_^
This is the perfect soundtrack for the revolution.
awe bliss.
peace. inner peace! cheers mates
This was a landmark album
Definitely want it played too, and at my funeral, c'est grandiose.
3:30 when that flute-sounding electric guitar tone hits, whistling me to sleep.
marveling
I love this band. I thought they were awesome. Then i took mcat listened to them freaked out and now i love them even more
Come again sometime.
At first I only had F♯ A♯ ∞ because I had heard it on the 28 Days Later soundtrack, and I thought I'd give this album a listen. I got through the first 11 minutes of this song and downloaded the entire Godspeed discography.
I've never felt more understood.

@playtheshovels - they played this first at the Philly show - and i cried uncontrollably for about 9 of the 12 minutes you're speaking of.
@gamersgene Ya are, what ya are - so speaks the essentialist. In my case that's a nerd - well figured. It is not so much out of place in the internet as one might be tempted to expect. Kudos
