Songs like this, artists like this, pure music, gives me a sense of being. As a music major, where I learn to break down music and beat rules and standards into my head, where I'm forced to analyze music to the point where it's not magic anymore... music like this gives me a glimpse of what I used to feel. It reminds me that the world is dark and mysterious, but the light is still there. We just have to be reminded every once and a while. Thank you.

Godspeed is a great,"new" band... love the atmosphere, the sounds, the ideas... can imagine a concert in a cave, w/ lights cutting thru smoke, a dim stage, and dim hall, and the silhouettes of the band playing...

This is kind of what some of the early shows at their Montreal space were like. Dark, smoky. Film loops playing on fabrics falling from the ceiling. The audience hushed under a spell watching musical drama unfurl in front of them, the climaxes vibrating their very souls into ecstasy.

I was always interested about the album cover for Slow Riot for new zero kanada but I never really paid close attention to the symbols on the cover, but today I decided to take the cover and put into google translate. My guess was that is was Hebrew, wich was correct. Now for the translation, it read תֹהוּ וָבֹהוּ= “Tohu wa-bohu” wich translates to Chaos. But when i typed the hebrew into google i got a way more interesting result. Turns out תֹהוּ וָבֹהוּ is a biblical phrase found in Genesis 1:2 and that it describes the condition of the Earth immediately before the creation of light in Genesis 1:3. This just adds way more darkness, chaos and depth to the experience of listening to this masterpiece.

When I listen to this, I always feel like I'm waiting for the song to open up at 8:28. It's like listening to Jimi Hendrix tune up for 5-8 minutes, then he blazes through "Little Wing", or something. So much prep work for so little payoff, but my god is the payoff worth it. From 8:22 until the end of the song, it's near perfection.

The "build up" in this song is like waiting at a bus stop. This group has a great sound, but I don't know if I approve of the fact that I have to wait five minutes for the drums to make their entry. Without momentum, music is more likely to put me to sleep than to perk my interest.

when I dream I vision of life
how can anyone match up into this light
when love seeps through every soul that bleeds
to every second of everything you've ever dreamed
when love as a force of power fulfilling its own existence
comes down and marries this human experience
when shooting stars connect with broken hearts
I shall run to the truth for the truth will always follow me

I have almost lost my love with music before I found post-rock. It started with following links on UA-cam, now i am addicted to music again. GY!BE, EITS, Signal Hill, This will Destroy You. These are all the best example of music and what it's supposed to be, not that mainstream crap the some people like, music should be a love affair. Thats the way i feel about post-rock.

Godspeed is far too good to ever be mainstream, which is nice because they are like a gem that a few people discover here and there. They're music is georgeously complex, intense, meloncholy and beautiful. This song, in particular, is as close to perfection a song can be. They really are in a league of their own.

Tohu wa bohu (תֹ֙הוּ֙ וָבֹ֔הוּ) is a Biblical Hebrew phrase found in the Book of Genesis 1:2. It is usually translated "formless and empty," or some variation of the same, and describes the condition of the earth before God said, "Let there be light." --- Je ne peux qu'accueillir et m'incliner devant autant de talent, vision, vérité et amour manifesté dans cette symphonie qui fait echo à ma conscience. ***** I can appreciate that. So no need to apologize. Besides, I'm fairly certain the track is posted somewhere in it's entirety at this point. Though I'm pretty confident anyone who listens to songs that surpass 5 minutes knows the pain of having a track cut short due to any number of reasons after investing the emotion that goes into the crescendo.
Hopefully that makes sense. Honestly I'm never sure...

@Lycantroph Truly a medicine, my friend. Depression is the opposite of elation but doensn't necessarily exclude eachother, for me that's what this song is about, the way it builds itself from chaos to clarity, from nothing to perfection, depression to elation, from doubt to hope, and so on..
just to be clear, i'm not saying that's what this song is about (doh), that's just what i get, that's the 'message' it inspires.

It could be considered depressing even though it may be build up to something very climactic. The composition (the general set-up) within itself doesn't entirely indicate whether or not it is a particular tone, that of course is up to the listener. Basically, tone and composition or "set-up", are separate components which make a song.
