It's a good comparison, since both are handcrafted and both have sapele for their sides and back, and are both similarly priced. But the P3D has a cedar top while the FT340 BS has a spruce top. The preamps are also different. And, of course, the FT340 BS is limited edition, while the P3D is part of our standardly offered Pro Series. The answer is both are great, and whichever one appeals to you more is the right guitar. You can't lose between either of them.
WHY for the love of God has Takamine been drifting away from the CTP-3 / Triax 2, combo??? Surely you guys must understand if you talk to the customers that have played your guitars for many years that THAT combination is the best live plugged in sound you can get anywhere on the planet at any price. I have used the CTP preamps since you guys came out with them on thousands of live shows, I have probably been directly responsible for so many sales because musicians always come up and inquire about how I am able to sound so good. I gladly always tell them about the CTP / Triax combo and show them. I do know many musicians that have subsequently went out and bought that combination for themselves because it really IS that great. Nothing comes close to what that combination can do....I am shocked to see Takamine moving away from the CTP / Triax. And dont get me started on not importing the high end guitar options to the united states...
With a beautiful body, why come with a cheap head design and appointments like that? For example, the brand on the head should be in gold color, and the lock tuner should either be the gold color or the gold tuners with amber buttons. A poor decision, especially for the limited edition. This lowers the value and look.
To me this has a bright but rich tone. I’ve always only heard good tone from Sapele wood and it is different tonally than mahogany, to my ears anyway.
ft340bs vs P3D, which one better sound and tone?
