  • Volkswagen Commercial Specialist, Anthony Johanson, takes you for a tour under the body of the rugged Volkswagen Amarok, featuring 'Rokky' from The Hunters Club TV series.
Presented in the workshop of our Volkswagen Service Centre here at Miles Continental, Christchurch.
    VOLKSWAGEN AMAROK
A Ute with 20,000km service intervals
When you drive off in your brand new Amarok you won’t see the guys at the service centre until you’ve clocked up 20,000km. Which is quite the distance, especially when most other utes have a service interval of 10,000km - 15,000km. That’s more time working, and less time in the workshop for you. No wonder the Amarok has become the workhorse of choice for thousands of farmers, builders, chippies, and high country station owners, throughout New Zealand.
    4MOTION all-wheel drive
The Permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive with Torsen differential makes the most of the dynamic driving benefits of all-wheel drive and is suitable for driving on paved roads as well as off-road terrain. Power is distributed between the front and rear axle (40:60 front: rear), which ensures excellent driving dynamics whatever the conditions. Should the driving surface change, the system automatically adapts to distribute power to driven wheels with the most traction.
    Tricks of the tray
With a tray light for loading and unloading at any hour of the day, tray tie-downs to make sure your load stays safe, unparalleled width between wheel arches, exceptional tray height and lockable tailgate, the Amarok is always ready to go to work.

Were any suspension modifications done to this vehicle to account for the extra weight of the bull-bar? If so, do suspension mods void the warranty?

Hi Martin, this particular Amarok was put together through Volkswagen New Zealand's partnership in 2014/2015. I no longer have the specs for this one so can't confidently answer your question. With regards to the warranty, this may depend on the parts and labour used (and may also vary country to country). Your best option is to speak to your local Volkswagen dealership so accurate, relevant, and up-to-date info. ^Mark

Hi Fernando, thanks for the question. We put this to our commercial vehicle specialist. He believes you may be referring to a workshop campaign that was carried out on a very selected number of Amaroks.
"The engine drive belt could be damaged by external objects and part of the belt could find its way behind the timing cover, then in turn damage the engine timing belt and engine. A modified cover is fitted to affected vehicles by Volkswagen workshops to prevent this accidental damage. This is an important reason (like software updates) to always service your vehicle at a franchised workshop."
Hopefully that answers your question. If in doubt, Amarok owners should contact their local dealer to see if their vehicle is one of the small number of models that was affected by this, and have this work carried out.

You forgot to mention that Amarok chassis has the most number of cross-members in the 1 ton pick-up class, helping give it best-in-class chassis rgidity (over and above the fact that it the largest box-section construction chassis in the 1 ton ute class). Toyota took this into account when designing new Hilux, and threw out the original Hilux replacement designs after stripping Amarok.

A chassis cant be too rigid. A chassis is meant to flex and give. The amarock is certainly nothing special
