    I got this bible yesterday I was surprised of how significantly smaller the whole bible was compared to my personal size large print. It's the perfect compact reader imo.

    Looks like a tremendous Bible. Some have said they don’t like the thin paper, however the trade off with thicker paper is a thicker Bible. I think crossway did a good job to find the balance to create a personal size Bible, while not making the paper too thin. I own a ESV thinline heirloom printed in Netherlands and that paper is more thin than this I believe, and I love that old burgundy heirloom and I’ve had it for years.
    I appreciate the honest review - important to remember that there is no perfect Bible, but there is the perfect Savior who we read about in the Bible.

      @@timwildsmith Something else I really appreciate is all the poetry in one column… That is a huge win for the single column. When font size and spacing is good on narrative, epistle, etc. then single over double for me, double is nice for familiarity and historical reminiscing however.

    People knock the Chinese premium Crossways, but I think they’re nice! I know the Jongbloed ones are held highly, but I feel that the Chinese ones are just a different type of awesome. Plus, my experience with the Chinese paper has been better than the paper from the various Jongbloed Crossways I’ve had over the years; no curling, while all the Jongbloed ones I’ve had curl right out of the box!

      I hear you. I think the last Chinese heirloom (VbV preaching Bible) was fantastic. That said, did you know that they are moving productions of the heirlooms back to the Netherlands? First batch due this fall.

    Just got one in for my son and I agree that the format is very good, but sadly that was about it. I have to back up JazzMonk here- the paper REALLY is THAT BAD for ANY bible. Also want to note the smell. The one I received smells really bad like dye and chemicals not hand crafted leather. If you are on the fence, I would recommend passing at this point.

    Hey Tim, I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel! Loved your review! I currently own the ESV Premium Thinline in Goatskin black. It's a double column Bible but I was thinking of saving up and getting a single column Bible, and I think your review might have just convinced me to purchase this one! You're right, it's such a beautiful Bible! God Bless! *subscribed*

    Brother Tim, I appreciate the work that you put into this video review, but, respectfully, I disagree with your review. The ESV Single Column Personal Size Heirloom is not Heirloom quality. The paper in Thomas Nelson/Zondervan non-Premier editions (also China produced) and have better paper than the ESV Personal Size Heirloom. And one could pick one up for about $40-$50.00. The ESV Single Column Personal Size Heirloom is no more than a $20.00 dollar edition in a pretty wrapper .

    • @MalibuStephie

      JazzMonk do you mean since they’ve started printing in China - is not as high quality? I’m about to purchase so would love your opinion please - or your suggestions. I was thinking this same one but in the normal size as well. Or do you think the PSQ one he was talking about? Thanks :)

    • @jazzmonk5670
      @jazzmonk5670 4 роки тому +4

      Stephanie de Oliveira Yes, the quality has drastically fallen with China produced Heirloom editions. The paper in the ESV Single Column Personal Size Heirloom edition is absolutely terrible! No, I’m not exaggerating, it’s like trace paper! Not to mention other binding issues which all said mentioned issues should not exist when you’re buying a premium edition of Scripture. Trust me... STAY AWAY from this edition because all you’re buying is a pretty goatskin cover! You would be better off purchasing ESV Single Column Personal Size TruTone edition-the paper is surprisingly better! Another option would be the ESV Single Column Thineline, the paper really isn’t any better, but it is single column format, and you can also pick up the genuine leather edition for about $40.00. Another option would be the ESV Personal Size Reference, oddly, the paper has always been good. The only drawback is the smaller font, but it is very readable, and the text is littered with cross references. Hopefully this helps.

    • @claudiabailey5302
      @claudiabailey5302 3 роки тому +2

      Printing in China is not the issue Thomas Nelson has proved that. Crossway are choosing the paper and materials and how it is constructed all they are doing in China is putting it together.

    I wish they had the gutter reference column like they do in the crossway cheap one (which is also lines matched for $20). The font size is the same I think as this premium one.

    • @timwildsmith

      @@timwildsmith One question if you would be so kind (last one); I hear complaining about ghosting. But if it's like the Crossway single column personal size reference Bible, or even the Schuyler Quintel, then I can't understand the complaining. Can’t decide if I should spring for this, or get one of the older true-tones from a few years back rebound in goatskin. The page layout between the two bibles is almost identical so it’s a tough call. I really love the overall look of this one, though, it’s just that I’ve heard some criticisms of its quality since it was printed in China. I have the single column heirloom legacy (printed in the Netherlands) and the leather is amazing. I can actually totally roll it back without damaging it. How does this one compare to the Netherlands printed bibles? Is it worth the money, or should I go for a rebind of the older edition?

    • @timwildsmith
      @timwildsmith  4 роки тому +2

      I have the Legacy from Jongbloed as well. The goatskin on the new Personal Size I have is very rollable, but it has more texture than the Legacy. Still very nice.

    I've read a lot of comment regarding this bible being bad because it's printed in china, but the price right now is pretty great. The ESV thinline top-grain is also a great price, what would you say is the best option? I know they are wildly different bibles, but it would mostly be a main reading bible. Not for studying or preaching.
