I printed bibles for 12 years. It is difficult to print on that thin paper. A lot of work goes into keeping the printing presses running. Please pray those of us who print and bind the bible!
Thank you for your ministry! Truly one of the most important jobs on the planet.
Amen. Amen. Amen.
May YHWH bless you
We need bigger Bibles is what I'm hearing.
@@microcolonel the older I get the larger bible I need ! Unless of course on my phone , but then it’s one letter at a time .
Your son is so adorable. Love how you two interact throughout the video, you make a great tag team.
It was a delight to see how you and your son interact. As a dad of a toddler, I aspire to have that kind of rapport with my son someday!
Thanks Noah. He's a great kid, and we have a ton of fun together.
I watch a lot of Bible review channels, but this was different. The chart and categories and the little slidey thing are so helpful. Also, your son seems like such a sweet boy. So bright and well spoken even at his young age. And you can see he adores you. May the Lord guard his heart so that he loves and serves Jesus forever.
Your son's patent delight at hanging out with his father and doing things with him adds great value to this video. God bless you both 🙏 Love from India.
This little boy is just a delight to watch! 🤗😊. Thanks for bringing him on for us to see him.
Aww your son is so adorable, he reminds me of my little brother at that age. He looks at you with so much love, you can tell he really enjoys spending time with you!
Super cool seeing your son in your videos.
I daydream about that future with my 1 year old a lot in ministry. Right now I just demoted him from baby Jesus to a sheep because he doesn't fit in the manger anymore
What a lovely young boy, who will no doubt soon turn into a pious young man under your gentle guidance!
I love that you're bringing your son into these videos! His giggling in the background is adorable.
You started w/ your son?! Love him! Still enjoying the Ancient Faith-study Bible you recommended last year…and THAT’S why I’m here. Let’s see if I add another to my shelf.
For a Catholic study Bible, I would point to the Ignatius Press Study Bible which is quite good and uses a different translation that many Catholic scholars prefer.
That is the Bible I meant to recommend, and I think it's a solid study bible.
I'd second that and also recommend the Didache bible, commentary is based on the Catechism and has a lot of emphasis on moral and theological interpretations.
That little man has a smile that can substitute the sun for the sun!
Orthodox Study Bible for me 😊
Loved the Bible review but my favorite part was your son. He's amazing ( wanted to also say adorable from a grandma in her 70s). Obviously an intelligent God loving young man.
Looking forward to seeing the reviews on the other stack.
He's my favorite part of the video as well. Thank you for the kind words about him.
15:27 cutest interaction I've ever seen 🤭
Great walkthrough of the Bibles, awesome content as always 🙂
Hard to pay attention to the content when I’m sitting here amazed you managed to, in the time of social media, raise a kid who isn’t an attention hog. He is absolutely delightful.
Jennifer that means the world to hear. I love him so much and I'm so proud of him: we have tons of fun hanging out together.
Hey Matt! I’m an old lady, well decade past mid life and a wicked history geek. Been Christian for 22 years. Your early Christian History video, I found, and it sparked my history gene about Christian History. Never did I combine my faith and history geek gene. Ever thought about doing a little more archaeology like recently findings like the possible Christian Bascilica found in a drying up lake. Documentary on PBS was pretty awesome. Are there any new
archaeology sites you know of
Bless your work and down to earth, real human Christian work!

I got the Catholic Study Bible 3rd Edition last Christmas. I love it.
You and I are going to see that one different my friend, and I would like to believe that we are still going to get along great anyway.
Ooh, the NABRE is my favorite translation so this looks very good, I'll have to check it out!
I have it as well and love it! The reading guides and archeological historys are amazing!
@@mariatr492 in part two we find out why he hates it.
A book without wisdom is simply a book, the Catholic Bible is the only one with wisdom in it. Wisdom 2:10-20 describes the passion of Jesus before Jesus was even born.
Lovely to see you with your son. I’ve been doing the Inductive process since 2007. It’s the only way for me. Many thanks!
I also appreciate that your very kind to the Catholic church and you do your best to honestly portray our beliefs honestly between you and what do you meme are the reasion i started looking for christ. I started at Evangelical Free Church and ended at the Catholic Church. Thank you for being apart of my journey and i thank god he put your videos in my feed
sorry Matt, but I really think you should have looked at the Orthodox study bible, totally not just for Orthodox but very nice, not too detailed but helpful.
That one is on my list for next year already. I'm on it.
I really enjoyed your perspective on these study Bibles. Can't wait for the next batch !
Great reviews. Nice seeing you and your son work together. He is adorable!
I have the older NLT Chronological Bible. I am not a fan of Life Application Bibles, but this is THE best chronological Bible.
The Inductive Bible is so structured. As a person who is a bit OCD and I stress if I get the "technique" wrong. (Yes, I own one)
Currently, I am using the Evangelical Study Bible (NKJV)
The "son" is a star for sure. I see him as a great extension of your program. He can pay his way through college for sure !!!
Great review! I like the sliding scales after each review and found it amusing the few ounces it took to take something from portable to desk only.
Thanks, Matt! And it's good to see Boy again!
Love to see this! I love the knowledge you convey and the presentation of it. Your son did a great job and was just beaming with joy to be making a video with his dad. I aspire to have that relationship with my child should one day God bless me with a family. God bless you Matt!
I got "The International Inductive Study Bible" by Harvest House in 1996 and it is still my primary Bible. Looks like it's stayed true to its basic form through the years.
Such a cute kiddo ! What a blessing. He is obviously enjoying himself. I can see all the love being shared between you to. I know you are a proud poppa! Oh, excellent job and a great idea for the study Bible comparison reviews.
Absolutely love this, thank you for all the time and effort.
Thanks for making an awesome video with really well thought out feedback. I appreciate your break down.
Well done! I have been looking at several of those, and my top choice for next study Bible was the chronological. I’ve looked at some others and had some hesitation so this has helped a lot!
Awesome! Ready for next part!! Love your son too!
I prefer my Orthodox Study Bible, and I am Eastern Catholic. Keep up the good videos!
New viewer here. I really enjoyed this & found it quite helpful. I especially enjoyed the input of your little helper! His enthusiasm blessed me immensely. Great job to both of you!

I love these yearly reviews. Your kid's awesome!
I use the Archeology Study bible, The ESV study Bible and the Lutheran Study Bible by Concordia. I am interested in getting the Evidence Study Bible by Ray Comfort though
Thank you for these reviews, Matt. Very helpful!
So timely! Looking forward to your take on these, especially the NKJV version. I'm in a women's Bible study using the inductive method and love it! Thanks for reviewing these!
Thanks for making this thoroughly informative yet short and concise considering what you’ve covered!
Thank you Zach. I always find myself having a lot more I want to say about each, but I try to keep it reasonably concise if possible.
Matt I'm watching because you made a video. God bless you brother.
I really appreciate the way you're coming at this. Thank you.
This is good and helpful. Kudos to you for keeping these Study Bible rankings going. I think for most people the "study" Bible is where most people do their discipleship so this is important work.
I love how attentive that kid is! Great video! Thanks!
Great video as always!
Just ordered 4 of the Courage for Life last night for my brothers and nephew, hoping the daily devos will encourage them to at least glance at the Word and increase a hunger for more.
Awesome informative video!!
I have so many Study Bibles. I tend to read a different one each year for the different perspectives they bring.
Your new co-host makes your presentation way better!
I participate in Bible Studies. We just finished "The Bible and the Chruch Fathers". For these I use several different bibles but always have the Haydock Bible at hand. It has half a page of the scripture passage, then half a page of notes many from the early Scripture commentaries of the early centuries.
This video was super helpful. Your son is a trooper. A little snippet of raising your kids right.
I really appreciate the review and effort on this video. I found a new Bible to check out in the Experiencing God version. Thanks!
Thanks Matt very helpful 👍. It would be great to do a similar review of Bible apps as some for example blue letter bible allow side by side comparisons with multiple translations which cannot be done with a printed book
I 2nd this request. ❤
Your son is just wonderful! God.bless your family.
Love that your son helped you out with the video!
Next time your in the Alabama area I'd love to get together again and play some crazy board games and talk!
- Joel Blevins
Right on Joel, that was a blast.
Nice to meet your son! Love your content!
Matt: Boy, be sure to smile and look like you are having a great time.
Boy: Don’t you worry, I got this.
Hi Matt thanks for these videos Could you review the MacArthur study bible please ?
Excellent job
You should do a video of your top 3 favorite translations and why.
I’ve just finished all of your Bible reviews I think. What are your thoughts on the Fire Bible?
I love that your son cracked up at your jokes 😂 (on the physical workout of hefting the heavier Bible).
Orthodox Study Bible review?
Your boy sat still and paid attention , so congrats to him and his dad. The world needs more behavior like that. The marketing of study bibles is almost more of a heartache than a blessing. The great challenge for Christians these days is simply reading. I own an ESV Study Bible for reference, but I daily use a NKJV personal size, large print, reference Bible--much more likely to be carried and read than any big study volume. Our phones provide ready access to the larger books.
I must admit, I did lose focus on the study Bible discussion once in a while as I enjoyed seeing your son’s loving eyes on you. I’m a grandma and can’t help myself ☺️
I have a habit of previewing books from my local library, for free, to decide if I like them enough to buy copies to keep. It's frustrating that I can't get my hands on these study Bibles to take a close for myself (my library only has an NIV), so I appreciate any help I can get! I currently have an NLT Illustrated Study Bible, based on one of your previous videos, but I'm still always wondering if I would have liked another one better. I find the commentary/notes at the bottom of the pages about 90 percent obvious rehashing of what I already understand, and 10 percent helpful and illuminating. I just wish I could sit down in a room with a whole bunch of these books, and then choose one.
I was amused by the cliffhanger - looking forward to part 2.
I recently discovered a Thompson Chain-Reference bible. I’ve really enjoyed how it enables topical study.
It's a classic for a reason!
That was the cutest intro and disclaimer 😊
The initial presenter is legit!
Your son is absolutely adorable.
I love the Wesleyan Study Bible from Cokesbury--grounded in John Wesley's notes on the Bible and his standard sermons, so it points to Wesleyan theology. I prefer the version in the NRSV, but it is also available as the Common English Bible.
I’m also using the Bible Recap chronological plan in the You Version App. That said, as it is in the app, I sometimes change the translation. The continuity has given me a different perspective.
I really enjoy a Thompson Chain reference bible, mine is in ESV. It isn't in the same category as some of these study bibles... it isn't guided, it's not trying to convey a specific interpretation, it just supports the content off the bible and provides an awesome chain reference system to explore the word in near infinite ways based on whatever topic currently interests or is relevant to you.
When I was in Bible College in the 70’s, the Thompson Chain was the “IT” bible to have. I so wish that Study Bibles were around at that time!!! If they were I didn’t know about them. I’m someone who thoroughly enjoys the pictures, history, notes and overall varied layout of the pages that these study bibles offer! It helps me absorb and retain the material without having to markup the pages with highlighters and notes. I was brought up that you don’t mark in your bible. It would be sacrilegious to do so!
that was a clifhanger. goodness thank you for the review
I just noticed your pointers on the sliders are the Skyrim map pointer. I love it
Well-played sir.
I like this kid ! Great personality
The intro is the CUTEST
I'm not a fan of study Bibles myself. Yes Acts 8:31 does say 'And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?”' However, I think people can get too reliant on the commentaries and this will not encourage them to think for themselves as they study.
Your son did awesome!
Excellent video! Do you plan on reviewing study editions of the Book of Mormon any time soon?
Thanks! As to your question: No, I wouldn't review editions of The Book of Mormon in this way. It's a fundamentally different thing.
@MattWhitmanTMBH thanks for the response! Ah yes, fundamentally different, as in not part of the 66 books of the Bible, so that makes sense if you are only reviewing Bibles. Thanks for the great content!
LDS is an entirely separate religion from biblical Christianity.@@juliopenaloza5655
If any of you want to try something very scholarly and completely different, I recommend the Hebrew Bible translation by Robert Alter. It's a Jewish Bible, translated in a literary (but literal-ish) way, and jam-packed with notes and interpretation from the rabbinical tradition.
You mentioned that you've looked at other chronological study bibles! I'm curious what your thoughts are on those. I've been considering the one by Thomas Nelson.
Matt, hope and wish you'd do a video regarding "Reader" editions perhaps.
I've been collecting Bibles for just such a video. I'll make that one happen sooner than later.
If I had to pick one, I'd take the New Inductive Study Bible.
My favorite Bible right now is the NLT parallel study Bible. It has the NLT study notes and the Life Application Study notes all in one Bible. I also use the Blue Letter Bible App, NET App, Filament app notes, Enduring Word app.
I was looking at at a couple study bibles one being the NLT Life Application Study Bible and the other the CSB Experiencing God study Bible. Which one would you recommend. You already talked me out of the Courage F Life Bible already 😅.
If you like the Chronological Life Application Bible, Ascension Press has had published their own version of a "timeline" bible since 2018, called The Great Adventure Bible, which uses the RSV
Thanks for the reviews, Matt! I took a Bible class that used this method. The poor instructor! We all felt overwhelmed and didn't like it. For me personally, I found that I had forgotten what I read by the time I did all the coding. Premium Bibles are nice but definitely a First World luxury.
Once you have one filament enabled connected to the app, you can use it for any Bible by manually looking up the verse/passage. ❤
*What you commented you "HOPE" the Global Study by Crossway might have been set up as....a global comparison of Christian perspectives based on geography/culture... is a Bible I'd love to find!!....If you ever run across that...PLEASE PLEASE review it!!* As always, thank you.
Live the Filament app.
Dang, a cliffhanger, and no obvious link to the rest ... and YT isn't helpin gme out either! Off to dig it up .... adorable, sweet son, sir. Brave of you to work with children! :D
Thank you, we had a lot of fun. I always try to leave relevant links in the description. I'll go check if it's there, and if not I'll get it updated.
Thanks again!
I'm dying to know your thoughts on the Archaeology Study Bible. Im considering purchasing it for someone as a Christmas gift. Will Part 2 be released fairly soonish?😁
Yes. It will be out in just a couple of days.
@@MattWhitmanTMBH Archaeology SB vs Archaeological SB would be even better 😊
I quite like the Ancient Faith Study Bible
I love how respectful you both are to each other. 🩷 Great reviews and perspectives from both of you. ☺️
I use the new jersulem study bible
i just ordered that chronological life application study bible because of this video lol
Which cover did you get?
@pkmcnett5649 the same one as the one in the video
Onw thing I'd be interested to know about the chronological study bible is how they handle controversy. e.g. where do they place Job and many of the new testment epistles, and how do they depict disagreements about where they might go?
Thompson Chain is a great one to. Both new and old
