    The Hero 9 was my first GoPro and I also subsequently bought a Hero 10. I am a transit and transportation enthusiast, so I often do videos of moving vehicles. That said, I usually have one or another tweak of settings, depending on whether I am capturing a transit train in a subway tunnel or a city bus on a brightly lit street. The key here is to experiment with settings until you achieve the desired result. Very informative video.

    I'm the same mate. I don't want to do any colour grading or sharpness tweaks. Medium sharpness and natural colour looks good to me.

    The Sony looks good as well! I just pulled mine out and I took a walk in the park and it amazed me just how good it was. However, I have a GoPro set to Medium sharpness and Natural and I love it! BOOM!!

    You are spot on about the sharpness setting. Almost everyone says to keep it set to Low but that's clearly fuzzy. No one mentions that! They say, you can sharpen it back in Post but Medium is great and not overly done. I shoot sometimes in flat/log and color grade/balance in post but not adding sharpness too. I like WIDE because linear has more of a stretchy look than wide on the sides. Plus, with wide you could crop in if needed. -.5EV works for me....GoPro changed the firmware to help the white blowouts also. I also own that Sony Action Cam (X3000? I also own the Sony AS-100? earlier model). I think Sony still looks good and the audio is better than the GoPro's slightly. I would use the GoPro mainly because of the superior stability (and 5K). But I do use the Sony for a second camera. I also own a GoPro Max 360 camera. In post production with MAX your output is really 1080p and you can't push in too much but the 360 view choice is unbeatable. I switched to GoPro from the Sony Action Cams when GoPro mastered stabilization over Sony with the HERO 7. Before that, Sony was best with stabilization. I'm very happy with the Hero 10 even though it has some funky glitches with the screen touches and hangs sometimes but these happen not very often anymore. One more thing....about the bit rate. I understand you want to keep it to high but can you really tell the difference? One of UA-cam's videos said they can't see a difference. I think it would show up with motion.....more pixilation. I'm going to test that in a day or so. I will zoom in 800% or abouts on both the high bit rate sample vs lower bit rate sample. It makes perfect sense to keep the high bit rate but I like to see how much degradation there is in using the lower bit rate. I use 256G cards so space is not an issue. Just curious.

      I set it on high just because I want every chance at the best footage possible. With the compression coming from editing and then YT I try to make sure I’m doing everything on my part to get as clean of footage out of cam as possible. Thanks for the tip on the wide setting, I’ll check it out. Also, I was using linear with horizon leveling the other day and noticed a possible glitch where the ‘level’ was slightly off.. have you noticed that?

    • @sstefany
      @sstefany 2 роки тому

      @@GeneralExpert Yeah, I just like to do experiments on bit rates. About the lenses.....if you set it to linear - try panning something vertical standing in and out of frame - like a standing 4 drawer file cabinet or a wall. Then set the Hero 10 to wide and do the same. You'll see the linear stretches it more before it goes out of frame than wide does. I wouldn't think so but it does. If you are shooting people (can I say that?) then you'll see their faces stretch somewhat as they leave the left or right side using linear. As for linear and HL - I haven't used that config much but I did notice something like you described. For the most part, it is perfect and great. But once or twice I noticed it didn't handle the video smoothly. Maybe the motion was quick or the objects were too close...don't know exactly what it was or how to describe it but I noticed the video jumped very briefly. Possibly, the stabilization or the HL got overwhelmed and the picture suffered. I will have to try it again under different circumstances to nail what it does exactly. But, yes, I did notice something when using linear with HL. You say you shoot in flat. Do you add color later? Do you color grade? I am just learning how to do it in Vegas Pro. Somewhat subjective.

    I have watched the other 3 videos of the HERO 10 settings comparison in your channel. This is best and the most honest & professional review for the GoPro Hero 10 in youtube. Nobody is really talking about; are the white too white, are the dark too dark, are the green still look natural like nature, what is the neutrality of the video footage without post production. There are just too many bad examples out there that don't make sense. I have learned a lot from the videos. Thank you very much for this entire experiment.

    The flat preset permanently loses detail on surfaces with low contrast (for example, the face). Therefore, it is better to shoot in a natural preset with low sharpness if there is post-processing. Medium sharpness also gives a good result if there is no post-processing.

    • @danielrockstein
      @danielrockstein 6 місяців тому +2

      You'll be amazed what "mid detail" option does for Flat in Davinci Resolve. Use it along with sharpness when you record in low sharpness (which i recommend). It brings all the fine details and it absolutely destroys the gopro color (natural/vibrant).

    I am a DJI Osmo Action "fanboy", but I bought Gopro 8 last summer (my first gopro ever) and sold it not long after and bought another OA.
    But This winter I actually bought Gopro 10 and I love it enough. And like you recommended in another video, Flat colors is the way to go, it do look great.
    5,3 K is not sharp at all, so I stick to 4K.
    A really downside with Hero 10 is how bad it is in low light. My Osmo Action do really good. But when I need the best low light performance, I use my lovely Nikon D7500.

    I have issue with my new GoPro 10 . My previous cam was GoPro session 5 and i had Samsung Evo 256sd card . The problem with new gopro 10 is that when I connect cam to PC gopro quick app he don't see any media on that sd card and shows 0 and doesn't want to download my files to GoPro quick app because he thinks its empty. I never had this issue with same sd card in my session 5 cam. So now in order to transfer files from sd card to pc I have to use usb sd card reader which is annoying. Do you know what might be the issue here and why GoPro quick doesn't recognize this sd card in GoPro 10? I checked 2 sd cars Samsung Evo 256gb and scan disc 32gb they both work fine on my gopro session 5 and gopro quick app see them without any issue but on gopro 10 no.

    i have a go pro hero 10 5.3k cinematic mode bit rate high sharpness on medium i use the wide angle and crop in during editing when needed but hardly ever do when using this camera i have to say im not a fan of go pro because they are FULL of issues but i think they fixed this one with the last update. however i have a DJI OSMO Action and it looks just as good when using filters and the right settings.

    I'm in the same boat. Just got the hero 10 black , also my very first GoPro. Going on a trip very soon and overwhelmed with what settings to use. I think I might just stick with the out of the box 'standard' setting for now. Might change the bitrate to high though. Not sure

    I just got the Go Pro Hero 10 about two weeks ago, and enjoy it a lot. I also have a Sony action cam (bought maybe five years ago), but it is 4K- a Sony FDRX3000 also of very good quality. I'd say it is about the same sharpness as the Go Pro, great colour, etc. However... the Go Pro has better sound, far superior menu, front and back screen, superb stability, etc. My Sony has this silly 'Dick Tracy'-like remote control watchband monitor, that continually goes on and off, depending on the angle of the camera in one hand, and the remote control on your other wrist, etc. The menu (on a tiny window on the side) is ridiculous, and difficult to see, with terrible scrolling functions and tiny buttons, does not light up, etc; the battery compartment is very difficult to open and close, as are some of the other tiny doors. I'm not sure Sony even lists it anymore. But... for great video, I'd say the Sony is just about as good as the Go Pro 10, but it's just all that other crappy stuff that keeps it sitting in a drawer or somewhere here. Other than that, all other Sony cameras I have are absolutely magnificent!

    The most annoying thing about GoPro is that you only have a Corect image in the middle; as far as your subject is filmed on the lateral of the screen, it becomes wider (stretched). It's like if you're in the middle of the image you have 70kg, if you are in one side or another, you have 100kg. It's REALLY ANNOYING and I don't know how they didn't fix that Bubble effect ... 😑

    I bought the Gopro Hero 10 recently, I've been watching UA-cam channels about just setting up the best setup for a beginner. When I start filming everything is fine but after 45 seconds the monitor/screen gets darker and after a number of seconds the screening goes black. I have to touch the monitor/screen again for the image to appear again. My question then is if it should be like that or if there is a way to remove this function.

  • @kymdarling4080

    Glad I'm not the only one 🙂 I too set the sharpness to low based on UA-cam recommendations, I am an avid hobbiest photographer and have Lightroom and Photoshop, so thought no problem, but it is just too much post processing, if I was doing it for commercial purposes it might be different, but I'm leaving it on medium

    Surprised GoPro is able to savior today after 1st time playing with. The brand should be put in the toy category. Founders don't have the knowledge and capability to catch images or process digital data after decades in the market.

      This is my first GoPro and so far I’m loving every minute of it. It’s not perfect of course but very good. On the flip side of that, there’s no reason to buy it unless you have the computer to back it up. I would only recommend filming in full resolution of 5.3k and unfortunately you need a pretty decent computer to be able to process that. Hope that helps.

      I noticed mine overheated when I had the settings maxed out, but today I shot Standard 1080p 30fps with Linear + HL and HyperSmooth/Boost, BitRate/High, Shutter/Auto, EVComp/0, White Balance/Auto, ISO Min/100, ISO Max/100, Sharpness /Medium, Color/Flat. The footage shot outside for several minutes looks perfect to me. No overheating this time. I could not get the shutter to double the frame rate without overexposure, so I set the Shutter to Auto. Blue sky looks perfect. I know I should be able to set proper Max ISO, but these settings worked without overheating.
