Had my Vitus for a year now, exact same model as yours and I agree it's a killer machine, can't think of any other bike available now that can touch it for price, spec and capability. Bought it to replace my decent but thoroughly unreliable Specialized Kenevo and the Vitus beats it in every way. Hands down a better bike. I'm amazed it doesn't feature as much in reviews in video and press compared to other brands. The only criticism I had for it was the quality of the battery cover on the downtube but CRC sent a new and improved cover out last week free of charge. Not a huge fan of the paint job but that's personal taste. I swapped out the very good maxxis tyres when they wore out for Eddy Currents and haven't suffered from a puncture since.
Always good to hear positive feedback on a bike. I guess you don’t hear as much on them because they aren’t boutique and expensive, but we should hear more about them because these are the kinds of bikes most of us are buying. The Eddy Current is very good, has one on the Pivot.
OMG. I would have been proper gutted if that had happened to my recent ebike purchase. A credit to you for seeing the funny side. I bet you have never run so fast ! Looking forward to seeing you both on future ebike adventures. 🤠
oh shit..... Did your bike just fall in the canal..... 😳 And then a flat tyre oh FFS..... Another great video. Hope your luck with the Virus improves & I look forward to more awesome e-bike videos
Sweet vid, mate - enjoyed it. I have burst 4 or 5 Assegais and DHRII tyres in the same way you did. So frustrating. You really need a Cushcore in Maxxis tyres, they are too prone to punctures otherwise. And their damping is pretty naff as well without them. Just my take, FWIW.
Great review! Same bike here, after coming from a focus Jam 2 which was very capable this thing is another level on the rough down hills in the Lake District (similar to the terrain in second half of the video). So planted and confidence inspiring I find myself letting off the brakes and looking further ahead a lot more. For me the only downside is the headset design and cable routing, otherwise component levels are up there with bikes nearly twice the price
The composure of this bike is incredible indeed. I both love and hate the cable routing through the headset, I’ve taken it apart already (after the canal incident) and was surprised at its simplicity.
@@McTrailRider yes really simple and I can see why they did it like this as it looks neat but not sure it helps with maintenance and also life of headset due to water ingress (or dropping in canals 😂), also have seen some people have had issues with cable rub on steerer, going to look at wrapping mine somehow to protect it. I dropped the forks and packed with grease but to be fair wiggle/crc are responding well to this and providing redesigned parts FOC as they come out….. like I say the only real issue and only an issue because this bike is awesome and want to keep it a long time ! Enjoy
Hahahaha mate... I hope you call the new rig Duncan... My first foray into full squish was the non E Sommet.. loved the geometry of it and the 170 Yari's were sublime
Nice ride and great review, awesome scenery, never ridden up that way in winter. I have had three esommets currently on the VRX. I have to agree with you, the bike has great components, geometry is fantastic, suspension is terrific especially the Zeb 38's... I hit 10-12 feet drops and big gaps no problem. The bike punches above and beyond ebikes twice the price...After more than a year riding it hard the Across headset bearings are going, seems to be a bit of an issue...other than that it is a super design. Vitus design great bikes at very good cost. Look forward to some more of your vids. 👍
Brilliant video, and an awesome bike👊The EP8, battery and associated electrics are extremely well waterproofed, and I completely submerged my Shimano based ebike in a flooded bog in the Peak District and, once Id fished it out, I carried on the rest of the ride no problems👍
Great intro to the video , I did try not to laugh. The vitus is a nice looking bike has some good components on it and the price is pretty good compared to some ebikes out there. Didn’t really hear the motor seems quiet and pretty smooth on the down hills . Enjoy your new bike 👍👍 And I hope Pearce is happy with the pivot

The funniest thing I've seen for a while (once I knew that the bike had survived its bath of course), I have the exact same bike so it is good to know that it can cope with a bit of water now and then! Agree 100% with your review of the E-Sommet, it is a great machine.Though, to add my 2p's worth on the tyre issue.... I have had 4 punctures, 2 of which have required bacon strips to seal up since I got the bike in December... My last bike running Michelin Wild Enduros I only counted one in over 12 months...

The Finest North Welsh Off piste and the amazing stuff around South Wales and hopefully the French , Italian Alps this Summer . Amazing and the best value eeb going and probably better than 90 percent of the other overpriced makes . I had exactly the same issue as you regarding the rear high roller ... Brilliant grip but lasted a few rides before splitting on the bead . I've got a WTB judge on the rear now but still have to run higher pressure than what I want as the rim has taken a few dings . Ebike weight plus the speed you can go isn't great for rims !
Sweet bike congrats! Much preferred the EP8 over the E8000 as it felt a lot smoother to me, but the rattle was doing my head in so I went to a Specialized. Big fan of the Zebs and SuperDeluxe though. I’ve been running the Michelin E-Wilds for the first time this winter and have found them really good in most conditions. 👍🏻 Looking forward to more eBike content from you! 🤘🏻

Great vid, liked the canal bike wash 🤣 I’ve had my E sommet for 8months now. Awesome bike but I had some issues, headset was replaced within first month as it was grinding badly, upgraded one off CRC. Had to change the tyres as they where puncturing all the time,I’m now on super gravity schwalabe front and rear. New motor last month after one of the terminals for the motor snapped, just keep an eye on water and crap getting under the cover for the electrical connections as there’s a big gap,I’ve used some moto foam now to keep the crap out. Get a coil shock on there too 🤩🤩
Hard e about the headset, agree about the rear tyre (front seems ok), surprised about the motor though, that’s quite unusual for Shimano. Thankfully all the plastics are quite ready to take off for cleaning, so I’ll be doing that regularly.
Awesome! Loving the 2 bikes. The mullet will make the cockpit feel a lot shorter…. I foowkin love a mullet tho :-). I need to hit that trail at 16mins. Looks stunning!
It would only make the cockpit feel shorter if it was a 29’er in the rear and then retrospectively changed over to a 27.5. This was designed as a mullet from the outset, so the geometry should be as intended. Or at least that’s my take. The last trail is a beast and with an excellent backdrop 😍
Yeah, I’m not sure mate. Makes sense. I had a Gen 2 Levo and mulleted that, and even changing the flip chip, it really brought the bars in. Just got a Gen 3 and it feels right - bigger stem than I’m used to tho. Fuck it - just need to get out and ride :-)

The rear coil is amazingly plush. I was 50/50 cool kit/function but one of those things that’s arguably worth it. Better than any shock I’ve had from RS or Fox.
Brilliant! Hope ur new bike is ok will that affect the warranty lol? Am looking at the non electric version of the sommet and hope it shares a lot of those handling characteristics
The way you ride, and the trails you ride, I would really recommend inserts. Rimpact’s work so well and will save your rims! Great video and looks like a great bike for your application. What are your thoughts on the EP8?
With the Michelin’s and Schwalbe’s, I never really had any issues. If I stuck with Maxxis though, I’d probably be back on inserts. The EP8 is good, but not as much better than the E8000 as I thought it would be.
Awesome video,Sommet looks like a contender for my next bike,On the maxxis tyres,Made of cheese springs to mind....I had the Exo+ on my Orbea and it was wrecked after 2 rides,Now run Rampant just even to give the extra bit t pedal back if tyre fully deflates
OMG poor bike having a swim. Glad it worked after a quick dry out. I’m around 72kg and got a focus Sam2, 23-24kg bike, running similar pressure to you and kept splitting maxxis like that by rim. Final straw was splitting the tyre on streak of lightening by loch Muick in snow. Froze fingers repairing the bugger. Got cushcore in the tyre after that and problem solved.
Streak Of Lightning has a tendency to burst tyres to be fair 😱 I’ll need to do something about the tyre as I can’t afford to have it let me down when I’m in the middle of nowhere.
Andrew if this video doesn’t get you a few thousand more subscribers there’s something very wrong 😊?that bike seams exceptional value for money mate!! I’ve just bought a Whyte e180 with 180 travel zebbs but I would say yours probably has better brakes and groupset ? And the Whyte was £6000 🤷♂️ but to be fair I’ve not been out for a good ride, weather been terrible the last couple weeks since buying it so time will tell? Hope you’re bikes ok mate after it’s dunk? And you deserve the bike mate your content is the best on youtube in my opinion!! 👍
UA-cam is a funny thing, I’ll probably lose subscribers on this one 🤦🏼♂️ I’m not overly familiar with the Whyte or it’s build, but I believe that they are pretty good value in general. The bike is completely fine thankfully👍
I was looking at it seriously but I went with the Orbea wild instead. Same kinda craic tho by the looks of it. By the way... I've XT brakes and I updated to the proper levers as the H30 only has the cheaper levers which are mahoosive. Started getting that wandering bite point on the back brake. Bled it a couple of times and the shop couldn't work it out but a mate tells me that the brake lines can be clear of air but there'll be bubbles in the lever itself and you've to loosen the bleed screw and keep tapping the lever until the bubbles clear. Not tried it yet but I'll let ye know if it works
I’ve had so many people tell me all different ways to make the XT’s work, and I’ve tried loads of things, but I honestly just think that some of them don’t work well.
I run one on my Pivot Shuttle and has zero issues with it 👍 However, I did find that it lacked a bit of feel as it’s very solid. Will see how the Maxxis holds up over time🤞
@@McTrailRider We say in Bulgaria, let's put you some water for havibg a better luck on your way, so that's happend with your bike .🤟🏼🤣🤣 Stay helathy bro🍀
I am surprised you don't run an insert on all those rocks. Ever since I moved next to a rocky trail I have Cushcore at least on the rear, both on heavy ebikes. I actually just ordered the Vittoria Air Liner to try (as the Cushcore install can be a nightmare - depending on rim/tire combo).....
@@McTrailRider Yeah, Assegai on the front is rock solid and my last DHR lasted almost 3 months (every day riding) before the sidewall just ripped open for no reason. But about 2 years ago Maxis was so bad I had a flat every week.... I was sick of it. :)
Im sold on vitus, ive just noticed while reading the spec on tje other bike i like, its battery is half the size of the vitus, so its a 2021 vitus E, i will be buying
Im not new to biking, but i am considering an Ebike, i have an old saracen raw 2 that ive modified to how i like it, but how much easyer is an Ebike to a none Ebike, can thay rearly get you to places alot easier than peddling by yourself, i sometimes i dont go out on my raw2 just because its abit windy, and i can be half dead by time i get to trails, i was so far from the Ebike fence i was on another planet, now im considering a vitus E myself, so any info on an Ebike im very gratefull 👍 and banging video as always and thanks in advance.
Just a suggestion I have the rockshox deluxe select plus on my trek rail and blew through its stroke fast. I put the megneg on and was a awesome upgrade. Might work just as good for you. And congratulations on new bike.👍
A full Michelin Combi in that yellow would probably look nice. Inserts: tannus tubeless is kinda interesting. It creates kinda 2 air chambers, which act like bottomless tokens I would say. U don't ride on the insert itself like CC or rimpact.
I happy your riding the E-Sommet as I’m really looking at getting one. There are not many reviews out there, think it’s time to retire the stumpy and go digital lol. I’ll try not take it swimming on its first outing
Levo 17-18-19, levo sl, kenevo sl, pivot shuttle, Santa Cruz heckler, Cube e160, hiabike enduro and maybe a couple others that I can’t think of just now.
I'm guessing Vitus need some positive reviews going by the vitus owners fb page and various forum posts about bikes being damaged when arriving like mine was (not courier damage). In the first month mine bricked itself doing a firmware update, and i've found the suspension to be not as good as my MRP coil suspension on my regular bike. That said, it is a fun bike to ride and it is very confidence inspiring, but i won't be going to Vitus again for a bike. Just invis every single bit of paint, it scratches so easily.
@@McTrailRider I'm guessing with the suspension i'm used to coil suspension, will be upgrading the zebs to vorsprung springs soon anyway, as the stiffness of the zebs is amazing. It's most likely user error in not getting the right settings for the fork and shock, but just can't that sweet spot! i'm shocked you managed to put a hole in the rear tyre... i've been trying for ages, clearly i need to ride her harder!
@@rickiclarke8154 I personally prefer the feel of coil as well, and agree that they are also more simple to set up. I’d be keen to try a coil shock on the Vitus to see if it can be even better🤔

I’m keen to try Ohlins suspension 👍
Can’t argue with the value 👍
The rear coil is amazingly plush. I was 50/50 cool kit/function but one of those things that’s arguably worth it. Better than any shock I’ve had from RS or Fox.
Brilliant! Hope ur new bike is ok will that affect the warranty lol? Am looking at the non electric version of the sommet and hope it shares a lot of those handling characteristics
Warranty 😬
I guess the regular version will be much the same, but the added weight of the ebike really aids the suspension.
That start 😂
Btw for those wondering that's a ship canal not a normal one , so pretty deep.
It’s about 20 foot deep at that point, which would have been quite hard to retrieve the bike from 😬
The way you ride, and the trails you ride, I would really recommend inserts.
Just ordered a Michelin e wild tyre to replace the cheese tyre 😜
Too funny. Good save though. What gloves do you wear for the wonderful rainy conditions?
100% brisker’s are the gloves I use mainly for the winter 👍
@@McTrailRider ah cool. Cheers
Two locations, we're being spoiled!
Your worth it 😜
Literally less than 1 minute in and a bike goes swimming!!!😂🤣🤣
🤦🏼♂️
Nice bike mate,I had a look at the vitus but went with the moustache, basically because of supply and my local shop is a moustache dealer
Sometimes you’ve just got to go for the bike that you can actually get 👍
You forgot to mention one of its finest features. It's amphibious, apparently.
Didn’t mention it, but did illustrate it 😜
Class start pmsl oops. Lookin forward to more Eeeb.. Can't beat a free bike bruv 😂. Great ridin n vids
It’s the best price 😜
OMG poor bike having a swim. Glad it worked after a quick dry out.
I’m around 72kg and got a focus Sam2, 23-24kg bike, running similar pressure to you and kept splitting maxxis like that by rim. Final straw was splitting the tyre on streak of lightening by loch Muick in snow. Froze fingers repairing the bugger. Got cushcore in the tyre after that and problem solved.
Streak Of Lightning has a tendency to burst tyres to be fair 😱
I’ll need to do something about the tyre as I can’t afford to have it let me down when I’m in the middle of nowhere.
The best intro to a video EVER🤣 Shouldn't laugh, sorry but that was so funny. I'd be mortified tho
I’d laugh, and very much did.
UA-cam is a funny thing, I’ll probably lose subscribers on this one 🤦🏼♂️
I’m not overly familiar with the Whyte or it’s build, but I believe that they are pretty good value in general.
The bike is completely fine thankfully👍
every e bike owners worst nightmare 0:34
Yep 😬
Lucky man free bike congrats, but ye might want to take the pivot out of your description and change it too your new vitus 🙂👍
Will definitely get that sorted, along with many other things that have changed in the description 😬
I correctly second guessed what was going to happen given the title. No less amusing though 🤣
😂
love the bike mate...i need one
Good stuff
do u have a discount code for me to use 🤣
@@scrakymtb3495 unfortunately not mate
@@scrakymtb3495 The vrs sommet in the vid is £4600 not £4800 as shown on vitus site , go look at chain reaction site 😉
@McTrailRider, have you considered Specialized tires? Butcher Grid out front, Ground Control Grid in the rear. Literally, 7 years, no punctures.
You can’t be riding hard enough mate 😜
I have heard good things about them, but haven’t tried them myself.
@@McTrailRider I'll probably go with a set of Hope. Don't think ye can do wrong with them
Chuck an eddy current on the back..fine meaty tire for the ebikes
I run one on my Pivot Shuttle and has zero issues with it 👍 However, I did find that it lacked a bit of feel as it’s very solid. Will see how the Maxxis holds up over time🤞
Nice 🤘🤘
👍
@@McTrailRider We say in Bulgaria, let's put you some water for havibg a better luck on your way, so that's happend with your bike .🤟🏼🤣🤣
Stay helathy bro🍀
Oh my life dude 🤣🤣🤣 random question what cable clips are you using to keep all your hoses tidy at the front?
76 project’s bobbing are the cable tidies that I use
@@McTrailRider wicked
I am surprised you don't run an insert on all those rocks. Ever since I moved next to a rocky trail I have Cushcore at least on the rear, both on heavy ebikes. I actually just ordered the Vittoria Air Liner to try (as the Cushcore install can be a nightmare - depending on rim/tire combo).....
I’ve not run inserts for a few years now without issue, but then again, I haven’t run Maxxis for a few years either 🤔
@@McTrailRider Yeah, Assegai on the front is rock solid and my last DHR lasted almost 3 months (every day riding) before the sidewall just ripped open for no reason.
But about 2 years ago Maxis was so bad I had a flat every week.... I was sick of it. :)
Good to get that first splash out of the way eh
😂
Im sold on vitus, ive just noticed while reading the spec on tje other bike i like, its battery is half the size of the vitus, so its a 2021 vitus E, i will be buying
Extra capacity is always handy, but necessarily needed. Depends on how you intend on using the bike.
Im not new to biking, but i am considering an Ebike, i have an old saracen raw 2 that ive modified to how i like it, but how much easyer is an Ebike to a none Ebike, can thay rearly get you to places alot easier than peddling by yourself, i sometimes i dont go out on my raw2 just because its abit windy, and i can be half dead by time i get to trails, i was so far from the Ebike fence i was on another planet,
now im considering a vitus E myself, so any info on an Ebike im very gratefull 👍 and banging video as always and thanks in advance.
You can adjust the power to whatever you want really. Work as much or as little as you want for whatever you want that day😜
Any tips on sizing @McTrail Rider
Not really, I’m on a large at 6’1. I would like a slightly longer dropper post personally.
007 mctrail rider 😂😂😂 cycles the hills and canals 😂😂😂 hope the bike turn out fine after been for a swim has re - watch it …
Thankfully all good with the bike 😅
Is that the Mudhugger Evo Bolt On for the Zeb?
It’s not, but I think I’ll be getting one soon
Ahhh so thats what you meant. Jaw did drop as the new bike peeled casually away from the bridge.
😂😂
What size is this and how tall are you? Am looking to get this but am in between medium and large. Cheers
I’m 6’1 and on a large. The seat tube is a bit longer than what I’m used to, but not a real issue. Everything else I find about spot on.
Just a suggestion I have the rockshox deluxe select plus on my trek rail and blew through its stroke fast. I put the megneg on and was a awesome upgrade. Might work just as good for you. And congratulations on new bike.👍
I’ve not found myself bottoming out just yet, but if I do, I’ll look into it
Just got my vitus e sommet and it's a weapon but the front cover for the battery is a bit flimsy and not water tight at all
Agreed on both accounts, I’ve used a couple of bits of gorilla tape in the middle of the cover, actually did a pretty good job 👍
CRC have realised this problem with the battery cover and updated it now. Contact them as replacement cover is much stiffer and free 👌👍
You should receive an updated battery cover free of charge from CRC.
Ive got 2 or 3 bikes in mind this being one of them, here is the selling point, how far can you go on a fully charged battery, thanks in advance
Hard to say how far you can go, as there are so many variables.
Vitus just went “screw the revue I’m going” 😂 hopefully it’s all good 👍🏻
😂 something like that
Hope your bike was ok after going for a quick swim? Would you ever go back to an ordinary mountain bike? I have never been on an electric bike.
No problems with the bike related to water thankfully. I ride a regular along side my ebike, both have a place for me👍
A full Michelin Combi in that yellow would probably look nice. Inserts: tannus tubeless is kinda interesting. It creates kinda 2 air chambers, which act like bottomless tokens I would say. U don't ride on the insert itself like CC or rimpact.
I’m a fan of the Michelin’s, and I’ve used the Tannus tubed setup before which was quite good. I’d rather not run any inserts though.
Hi there I’m heading to tummel valley soon just wanted to no where I could ride my e bike for a nice ride and some views ?
Pitlochry, Dunkeld, Aberfoyle and any of the hills with a path nearby 👍
well, that's one way to Christen it lol, bet vitus never thought of doing that during testing
I like to go the extra mile when testing 😜
Drops the camera oh my bike
Other way round, but yeah 😬
I happy your riding the E-Sommet as I’m really looking at getting one. There are not many reviews out there, think it’s time to retire the stumpy and go digital lol. I’ll try not take it swimming on its first outing
Well you will be able to see how I get on with it, and decide if it’s what your after 👍 I love it so far 😜
Fantastic bike , had mine a year no issues at all it has handled everything ive thrown at it so far and is a dream to ride
can you name all of the e bikes you have tried previously ?
Levo 17-18-19, levo sl, kenevo sl, pivot shuttle, Santa Cruz heckler, Cube e160, hiabike enduro and maybe a couple others that I can’t think of just now.
You look a lot faster on it mate
Good start then 👍
OMG :o
👍
I'm guessing Vitus need some positive reviews going by the vitus owners fb page and various forum posts about bikes being damaged when arriving like mine was (not courier damage).
In the first month mine bricked itself doing a firmware update, and i've found the suspension to be not as good as my MRP coil suspension on my regular bike.
That said, it is a fun bike to ride and it is very confidence inspiring, but i won't be going to Vitus again for a bike. Just invis every single bit of paint, it scratches so easily.
Ah, not so good to hear.
I am surprised to hear your comments on the suspension, I found the suspension to be extremely good.
Great bike-- fill the headset with marine grease ASAP though, ask me how I know...
I will be taking some precautionary measures with the headset 👍 How do you know then?
@@McTrailRider Have one myself- left it sitting for a few weeks after EWS-E and it seized solid. Bearings are not replaceable either, needed whole new headset top and bottom. Other than that its a great bike. Keep an eye on spoke tension in the back wheel too, mine has been rebuilt already.

Awww dude.....well I guess it's ok ? Thanks Andrew , high pivot ?...Peace
I’d completely fine thankfully 😅 No high pivot on this one.
That’s the important thing. Thanks Andrew
