Kashiwagi used this style in 0, so it's probably the Kazama family style, and Shintaro Kazama taught him. BUT ALSO: That big downward thrust as seen at 5:47 was also used by Nishiki in Kiwami. Now Kiwami came out WAY after 3, and it's probably just reusing the attack. But I really like the idea that this style and its moves where passed down through the ranks.
Or it’s just about martial arts and anyone can use them. It’s easy to tell someone’s style from their stance. Look at Kashiwaagi, he’s using karate. Or the guys that have their hands up protecting the face with front part of their foot on the floor, they use Muay Thai. Of course, there’s also those who use moves from multiple styles. Like Joji, since he was trained by the CIA, he’s most likely had training in jiu jitsu and Krav Maga. Who knows what else he uses?
PC Port I mean every style has techniques that most other styles use. No one style has a specific set of skills and training that doesn’t also apply to other arts. Like Kashiwagi was definitely using Karate, his style was way too formulaic to be anything else. Maybe he had some other training, but the most dominant one on display was karate. But every person fights differently based on what they know, take me for example. I have quite a diverse background with boxing, judo, Muay Thai and hapkido. Yet I’ve always been really good with grappling, even before I had any training. My stand up was weak, that’s why I went for boxing and Muay Thai since they’re great for defence as well as offence. So Joji being CIA trained, should definitely have more than one art under his belt, trying to categorise someone under one style is pretty limiting.
10/10 boss fight, easily. Probably one of the best in the whole series, from the act of going up against your foster uncle to the soundtrack and how even Kiryu admits at the end he might not have won were Joji in his prime...and it's true as he's probably the toughest boss in the game (besides Mine of course).
Easily one of the most epic fights in the series, the brother of the legendary Kazama. Kiryu tells him about his bond with Shintaro to Joji. Then we get to see what fighting style he has, I knew it was gonna be tough.
@devilleon7 since you brought up the colour in your Hayashi video I was reminded of my thoughts on the Joji signifigance on how he dons Black and Blue in Stark contrast to Kiryu's White and Red to symbolise how both are situated in their respective worlds, Kiryu's criminal association with the Red but yet the Grey for his moral compass and Joji's Blue for the government but how he dons full Black since he's always done morally questionable acts such as hits and the sort, and to fight the man who is the brother of your step-dad in the style of being a criminal stopping the government from murder is kinda just fascinating to see the role reversal
Joji is one of the best fights in the entire series second only to Mine for me. The arena, the music, his badass moveset, it's all perfect. Love, love, love it.

Hell, even Tanimura would be capable of that considering his rush combo heat moves. But it seems a bit out of character for Kiryu.

kratosgow342 agree it's not that bad, it just affect my usual play style ; if i cannot pin down the timing komaki knock back is easy to disrupt enemies combos , komaki parry stunned enemy usually more forgiving in execution timing help me position myself for finishing blows and tiger drop have stricter timing but big reward
If you look at cutscenes that take place in and around some of kiryu’s most strenuous fights Joji is up there. The only guy who seemed to cause him more problems was Mine. That I can think of top of my head. Makes you wonder what his prime would have been like…

The animations for the overhead hammer strike, the knee strike-side kick-mountain punch combo, the double jumping front kick, the kneeling reverse punch, and that backfist strike he does that sends you flying were all taken from Jean Kujo. It's not a new practice though, SEGA did the same thing with Shenmue and VF3, and since Yakuza 3 and VF5 were released a year apart it's no surprise they would recycle some moves. Cheaper than making new ones. Come to think of it, Lau Ka Long shares lot of moves with Lau Chan, they even have the same bloody name.

@FluffyNuo I found out about it. They changed Kazama to Fuma because they were worried that people would confuse it with Kazuma. Fuma is just alternative way of reading the symbols for Kazama.

Yeah timing is definitely more tight in Y6/Kiwami 2 not to mention AI in those game won't attack you until you get too close.
