    After beating the absolute ever-living shit out of Koshimizu, Kiryu is ready to move onto the mastermind, but his efforts are cut short after a soon-to-come revelation. Not long after, with absolutely nothing to lose and a complete family to protect, the Dragon prepares for one final battle to protect what is most precious to him.
    With this video, my 100 attack run comes to an end. I have to say, I enjoyed the game in English more than I thought I would. The localization job is superb and I had fun as with every English release being able to understand every little detail. If there's one thing this ending nailed for me, it's the emotional impact it aspired to deliver. The way this final boss is more vile than any other final boss made this fight that much more impacting in my opinion. I think that him being a malicious piece of scum is exactly what makes him stand out from the other final bosses. While the final fight itself could've used at least one more conclusive QTE if not more, but that aside, in story terms purely, I think I can safely say that I like the ending/story of the game.

    I respected Nishiki's resolve, using his final moments to protect Kiryu, Yumi and Haruka.
    I respected Ryuji's honor, only accepting victory if it was earned fairly and not by dirty tricks.
    I respected Mine's intelligence, allowing him to rise up even from the lowest beginnings.
    I respected Aizawa's tenacity, never giving up and striving to prove he was worthy.
    However, I don't respect Munakata, and I respect Iwami even less. Those two cowards only cared about themselves and threw far too many innocent people under the bus to save their own ass, Munakata was willing to have Arai go after fucking children, and Iwami was willing to use Kiyomi to force Someya to kill Kiryu, then attempt to use Haruka and Haruto to kill Kiryu. Even when he's beaten, Iwami just keeps proving he's a pathetic coward by begging Kiryu to not kill him. Fuck Munakata, but fuck Iwami even more so.

    You know this works too well with Yakuza 0. The old Yakuza like Kuze would have capped Iwami ASAP for disgracing the Yakuza. This is the kind of guy Kuze hated.
    Iwami should be lucky Sera wasn't around either, he'd had mobilized the Nikkyu realizing how much danger Iwami is to the existence of the Yakuza and done everything in his power to assure a guy like this won't get away.
    And Shimano probably would probably put him in the hole Majima was in.
    Y6 really is like a story how far the Yakuza has fallen...
    No principles, no guts, no pride and honor.
    Even the table in the Tojo HQ feels similar to that. Nobody punches out their problems, it's all about dirty tactics that would sicken the Yakuza in their prime who actually put their bodies on the line for success. Now it's just using others while staying safe yourself. Nobody cares about the pride of ACTUALLY FIGHTING your way up anymore. Even Sohei Dojima had his damn pride and we all know he was already a shit patriarch.
    What Kiryu fought wasn't just a coward, this was his journey since Yakuza 0. People he hated who gave their lives in this game cause at least they fought. Only for Iwami to drag everything through the mud cause the Yakuza fell so low that it consists of weak and dishonorable shits.
    Consider everyone Kiryu fought, both he hated and respected, those who died for their dreams, only for Iwami to come in and essentially piss on their graves

    If you think about it, Iwami fits as the final obstacle of Kiryu’s story. They both went against their fathers’ wishes for them to not become yakuza. Kiryu created his legacy as The Dragon of Dojima with hard work and getting through struggle after struggle with his own hands, whereas Iwami rose to power as the next Takeru Kurusu by scheming and backstabbing, letting others do all the dirty work for him. Kiryu had the utmost respect for Kazama, while Iwami held nothing but contempt for Heizo.

    Defeat Tsuneo Iwami - "He is nothing to me."
    There's a very clever second meaning in the objective description.
    In the past, Kiryu has defeated Akira Nishikiyama, the koi. The Koi is said to be able to become a dragon.
    He's defeated Keiji Shibusawa and Ryuji Goda, two other dragons, and therefore his equals.
    Yoshitaka Mine, the Qilin/Kirin was also beaten. The Qilin/Kirin being a creature that devours dragons.
    And what does Tsuneo Iwami have on his back? The Bai Ze, also known as the Kutabe. To a dragon, this creature doesn't mean anything. It has no relation or comparison.

    You know, finally understanding the full context of the fight, I can more easily stomach this final boss's smaller health bar. Tsuneo isn't a man who has clawed his way to the top to establish a reputation for himself. He's just a man suffering a midlife crisis who decided to become a Yakuza in the worst way possible. Really, Koshimizu could just be seen as the first and second phase of the final boss battle considering how heavily Tsuneo relies on others to do his dirty work.

    • @chrisossu2070
      @chrisossu2070 6 років тому +172

      They had way more health than they should've and were easily the most frustrating bosses of their respective games. The fact that they tossed high-level mooks at you while continually pelting you with bullets and running away pretty much took away all the catharsis those fights could've had.

    • @runohayuko1827
      @runohayuko1827 6 років тому +86

      I know right?! I had SO much trouble with them to the point where I thought about rage quitting. Jingu is even worse since you fight Nishiki after him and you might have ran out of healing items beforehand! As of now, I can stomach both the original Jingu fight and Munakata. However, the fight with Jingu in Kiwami can go fuck itself (The Wicked was a really nice theme though).
      Also, it's kind of ironic how Jingu and Munakata (Two old dudes who pretty much had no experience in physical combat and relied on guns and mooks during their respective boss fights) have a double health bar while Iwami (A young upstart in his prime that challenged Kiryu to a fistfight) only has a single gauge. Also ironic that I had more sympathy for them than I ever had with Iwami.

    • @chrisossu2070
      @chrisossu2070 6 років тому +109

      Jingu at one point did legitimately love Yumi, and Munakata in his own twisted way was trying to impose his vision of justice on Japan. Iwami on the other hand has absolutely no sympathetic backstory or redeeming qualities. It's telling when the members of Iwami's crew were introduced in a pretty bad light only to reveal nobler aspects to their personalities later on. The fact that his underlings have more humanity just makes Iwami stand out that much more.

      Chad Benjamin Kiryu was admittedly more hot-headed back then, and Shibusawa did claim that he ordered Tachibana's death while being beaten down possibly to goad Kiryu into finishing him off. At least from our perspective, Shibusawa had something resembling a tragic backstory to explain though not necessarily excuse his present actions.
      Iwami on the other hand is just a manchild who's angry that his dad didn't let him join the Yakuza even though his dad pretty much granted him a financially secure future. There is no reason to even see things from Iwami's perspective.

I mean, i would consider at least Joon-gi or Iwami's father to be the final boss. But Iwami's cliche evil character basically gives Kiryu a whole different levels of rage that he felt back in 0 with Shibusawa. A fitting end for the saga of the Dragon of Dojima...

      I think you might have Nishiki mixed up with Jingu. Nishiki was the final boss and even without the incredibly tragic backstory cutscenes added in Kiwami, he's still far more sympathetic than Iwami. Even Jingu, who is for all intents and purposes monstrous in the present, at one point was a decent man who legitimately loved Yumi before succumbing to the corruption of dealing with the Yakuza.

    Iwami's fight was alright, maybe not as dynamic or interesting compared to others in the series, but what really makes up for it is his involvement in the story. This dude is pure evil; probably the most evil villain in the series other than maybe Kurosawa. Aizawa had a pretty good fight (despite him annoyingly healing like three times), but there is no emotional connection to the fight itself. You barely see him in the beginning, he shows up for one arena part near the end, and that's it. He basically had no connection to the plot. Kurosawa or even Morinaga would've been WAY better final bosses. Even 4's clusterfuck of antagonists were all more fleshed out compared to Aizawa, and he doesn't hold a candle to Shibusawa, Mine, Ryuji, and Nishiki.
    Iwami, on the other hand, becomes heavily involved in the plot after the halfway mark or so, revealing that he's basically been behind every event in the game. He ruthlessly burns down Little Asia, manipulates Lo and his son, keeps Daigo locked in prison, kills his own father, toys with Someya and gets him to kill himself, has no problem in trying to kill innocent bystanders like Kiyomi, Haruka, and Haruto... He's ruthless. Like Kurosawa, it's all business to him. No honor, no friendship, no loyalty... just cold business. He's also one of the villains that came the closest to fulfilling his goals; I would say if he, Kurosawa, or Shibusawa actually got rid of Kiryu, it would've been pretty much game over. He's such a hateable villain that it feels great to finally kick his ass. He also ties into the themes of family pretty well; if his father were there for him and showed him why he didn't want Iwami in the Yakuza life, or even maybe indulged him and let him join in the beginning, Iwami probably wouldn't have turned out the way he did. I thought he was a really good villain overall!!

      You hit the nail on the head. Someone else commented on here that Iwami also could've had confidence issues too. I mean hes going to go up against the dragon of dojima. He needed every advantage he can have because I feel as if one on one in a fair fight he couldn't beat Kiryu. He couldn't even beat Kiryu after the man got hit with a steel pipe (and remained on his feet no less) and took 2 punches.

    • @GenesisJames
      @GenesisJames 4 роки тому +8

      @@WrenchLord That's a good point, and most likely true, considering that even his own father didn't want him to make his own decisions. His confidence issues probably stemmed from situations like that. He's also smart enough to realize that while he's strong, he's not strong enough to face Kiryu head-on, so he uses other leverages and gets him weakened first. He's kinda like Shibusawa, except Shibusawa was much stronger than Iwami physically in addition to being super cool, calculated, and smart.

    This fight has one of the best dualities in the series. Kiryu Kazuma, "the Dragon of Dojima", who longs for nothing more than to leave his title and life as a yakuza behind, versus Tsuneo Iwami, "CEO of Iwami Shipbuilding", who despises his regular life and desires to be acknowledged as a proper yakuza. Two men who can't escape the roles they've been cast in. Even Iwami's title card doesn't do him the honor of calling him a yakuza. His pathetic self is and will always be a civilian.

  • @Shevko0812
    @Shevko0812 6 років тому +307

    While I do agree that the fight itself may be a little anti-climactic in terms of just one QTE, I really think that he is not the worst Final Boss in the series. I've seen people put Y4 Munakata higher than Iwami, which is just ridiculous. The pre-battle cutscene is actually superb, it has all the little touches to get hyped up for the fight, especially that subtle guitar sound when Kiryu sees Yuta defending Haruka. In previous games, it was always up to Kiryu to save everyone, but most of the time his loved ones and friends died in the process. Here, it comes back around with all the Hiroshima buddies helping him out, and to prevent any other deaths he puts himself in the line of fire, as a human shield, for the first time in the series. It also really shows that Kiryu is done fucking around and being the nicest guy to all the Final Bosses, which in my opinion, is the main idea here, because it's the only game where people actively try to kill his remaining family and loved ones, and it doesn't stop until the very end. You can say that Y5 had Haruka in danger all the time too, but really, Akiyama protected her all the way to the end and Baba just up and went away, so there was actually no danger at all there, plus every game the final boss never had Haruka or anyone else of great significance to Kiryu as a hostage. (Again, you can say Mine had Daigo at gunpoint in 3, but Mine did fall dor Kiryu's speech and actually saved Daigo in the end, so it doesn't count)
    So the setup is actually really good, and Kiryu is finally getting his rage out for real, because Iwami is human trash with no sense of honor or respect, so why is this fight so lackluster? Maybe I'm way off on this, but the music and the absence of good QTEs is the main problem for me. Literally every last boss OST is very, very good, except for this one. It feels...generic even. I can't even pinpoint the best part of it. Two Dragons had the part where Kiryu is fighting Shibusawa up the ladder, which was the culminational moment of the track, plus it had a brutal QTE to go with it. And pretty much any other final boss had the same moment with the music kicking in for real in the last portion of the battle just after an awesome QTE. Iwami just falls flat in that aspect. If the track was anywhere near Two Dragons, Fly or A Battle for the Dream, it would've had a greater impact. It's the only series where I can say with a 100% certainty that if you don't do awesome QTEs and a proper track, the final bosses would suck. Even a good final QTE with Iwami would've made the fight better.

    • @evil_cupcake2386
      @evil_cupcake2386 6 років тому +29

      Well I don't think that music in this fight was generic, it's actually making you hyped. But yeah, I definetley agree that there's no nearly enough QTE segments. Many people whining that "QTE is only making it worse, it's ruining the mood" etc. etc. But Yakuza is proving that if you make good QTE it's only gonna make fight better. Aizawa from Y5 was stupid character, he had potential, but the twist like "BUT IT WAS ME!!! DIO!!!" is looking so dumb. But the fight with him was reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally good. And fight with Shibusawa was second best after fight with Ryuji. And that's thanks to QTE and action sequences that was brutal and hyping. Here we have only one QTE that... no bad, but it's not good enough for THE last fight of Kiryu. If not the music and exposition this would be really boring final boss.

      You've more or less got the same mindset as me, the "concept" of a fight like this is great but it's overshadowed by the fact that Iwami as Kiryu so gracefully puts it is a "little baby", the problem is that all the other bosses have some strength to stand on, strength that we get to witness even AIZAWA (for those who dis-like him which I understand too) as the game is showing us why they are the final boss, Nishiki as the blood brother and closest friend to Kiryu, Ryuji as the rival dragon to Kiryu, Mine as the twisted and mis-led child who wanted to prove he was right to hate everyone, Arai, Kido and Daigo as men with dreams who took moral compromises to achieve their goals, Majima as the end of Saejima and Majima's life-long relationship, Baba as the confused kid who feels like killing himself yet is stopped by Saejima till the very end, Kanai the monster from the Omi who refuses to give up in his lust for power, Aizawa as the new Koi who lost his purpose much like Nishiki and wants only status and power and is all he has left to fight for with his blood brother dead, Lao Gui the Asian hitman who is dangerously skilled and who has no conscience, Shibusawa the tainted dragon who used everyone in his way to call himself a legend a Dragon of Dojima but who hadn't fought for it with his own two hands, BUT there is a key point I want to make, Jingu the Ultimate villain from Yakuza 1 who is pathetic and always runs away is the SECOND LAST boss, not the last, same like Daijim Kim in Yakuza 2, these guys are designed to be pathetic to fight and act it as that's what we are shown of them in those games so there is a satisfaction to beat them to a pulp because they have a bullshit crutch to hold on to like soldiers and guns, Iwami shouldn't have been so tough BECAUSE it contradicts his character, he should've been the second last boss and should've been as easy to beat as his character has been shown to us, That is my problem with him, he has no right being tough as we're shown the exact opposite to be true of him and THAT is what makes fighting him feel so lackluster, because he has no excuse to be a "tough" final boss....sorry for this being so long :P

Look at guys like Someya, Kuze, Nishiki, Ryuji, etc. They’d all done him wrong and yet he never wanted them dead. Iwami doesn’t have that, this fight is basically Kiryu unleashed, he’s not holding back in any capacity. If it wasn’t for Sugai, he would’ve killed him. Iwamis whole exposition speech about him whining how his dad never loved him was kinda gay, but it also showed how much of a little shit snake he is. Iwami is strong physically and he’s a good fighter, but he doesn’t have that same strength Kiryu has. That’s the whole point of the ‘soul’ and ‘heat’ upgrades, Kiryus got the spirit that no one else has and that’s what makes him the toughest bastard.

    The only person more badass than Kiryu is Haruka's baby. Despite all that happened, not once did they cry.

      And even Haruka's baby is much badass than Iwami: A literal baby vs a figurative baby.

    Notice how yakuza 6 is the only kiryu saga game where the final boss isn't fought in some high building (e.g. Millenium Tower) or tojo clan HQ, but on the ground. Kiryu isn't fighting for the Tojo Clan anymore: He's fighting for himself, but most of all, for his family.

    Now I need to see a Tiger Drop-only "Maximum Disrespect" version of this fight, just to really flip Iwami the bird.
