Next time go through the cancellation, they give you a cancellation date of 30 days (that you can stop) - and then the lvl 2 retentions team contact you with much, much better deals.
Im just about to enter the sparring ring with vm myself after my contract ended 3yrs ago. Ive been putting it off as i know what you have experienced first hand in the past and the disress it causes. I am paying £85 pm for a basic freeview tv service, phone which i do not use and 125 broadband which in reality runs between zero and a top speed of 50mbps (currently download 28mbps upload 15mbps). I cannot stream films on the tv as they keep buffering and have the same problem with utube on my tablet. I have to re set my router several times a day as i get no Wi-Fi at all and have been putting up with this shocking service due to the fear of doing battle with vm.

Could you say what broadband speed you have, and if its ok?
Im not sure the speed bit it seems ok for us
