I once watched interviews with a bunch of top fuel drivers The question was along the lines of what does it feel to go from 0-160km/h in less than a second? They were all doing their best without really conveying the g-force awesomeness until one simply said "Imagine you're sitting at traffic lights in your mini and a Mack truck hits you from behind at 160..." Enough said!
I never thought of it that way....that helps...I think I'm beginning to understand !
I had a neighbor once that had a basic dragster - nothing fancy - just a big v8 and 1 big 4 bbl carb - no supercharger - He said it would do 150 mph in the 1/4.
I ask him the same question - what is it like. He said when he moved up to that class he thought he knew what to expect and what it would be like. Then he said - but I was wrong - it was much faster than what he expected.
I guess its like when I had my first motorcycle - a basic 650 class bike. It was fast compared to my car. I think it had about 65 hp. Then I got an 1100 bike with 125 hp. I thought I knew what it would be like. I didn't. It was hard to describe just how fast it was. When I turned the throttle it felt like the jolly green giant wrapped a hand around me and was trying to pull me off the bike while at the same time the bike felt like a 500 pound pit bull on a leash in my hand pulling to get away. It felt like the bike was rotating the earth and I was going to fly off the end of it. That was a machine that did 0-60 in 3.0 sec and 11.0 sec at 125 mph in the 1/4. So how can I imagine a machine that does 0-100 in less than 1 sec and 1/4 mile in less than 5 sec at 330 mph or more ?

Well I went on a roller coaster on Cedar Point called Dragster. Going so fast that you'll be able to see a shaky view and it is exactly like a big truck hitting you from behind. Also don't have your head up before you go that fast just keep your head on the backseat.

I love that gritty sound coasting at the end! Fused clutch plates, destroyed spark plugs, shot bearings - that's what happens when you contain explosions of that magnitude. Totally insane and awesome!!!!
I could look at those exhaust pipes at idle all day. You can see the firing pattern.

I mean, if you were going speeds up to 300÷ in less than 5 seconds, you'd shake a little too bud
the engineering involved in keeping these things from going airborn is just as impressive as the speed.
Cause even planes can take off at 60-70 imagine the upwind at these speeds

Just seeing the car go by while you're at home watching on TV doesn't do them justice. Hell, even in person I didn't really get a sense of how incredibly fast they are. Watching everything fly past in the blink of an eye from the cockpit was unbelievable. I can't imagine how it feels while driving one.

Bree I uploaded a video of these at a track I was at this past Saturday. I was right there not wearing ear protection. You can’t see it in the video but it about knocked me on my ass how loud it was

question I've always had is what determines how long the driver of the car does his burnout for, some do it shorter and some do longer ones.......
I guess some types of tires heat up faster, or a more powerful car does it quicker
Late to the comment section, I know. The temperature of the track, the temperature of the tires, how each team likes the clutches bedded in, the humidity etc.. It all plays a role in how they
tune and do a burnout.

These cars have so much power the engine basically tears itself apart during each run not to mention they burn through their fuel extremely quick, it's normal having to rebuild the engine in Top Fuel dragsters several times a day on race days
Hamilton, they only race 1,000 feet, not 1,320 because the top fuelers today are too fast. A quarter mile run with that kind of power and that dragster may reach 400 mph! Too many drivers would be killed.
@@draintheswamp1588 Ease back there Ray...the 1/4 mile NHRA record is 337, the current 1000 ft NHRA record is 339. Topping 400 mph is a bit of an stretch, you're talking rocket dragster territory there..and we all know those cheaters don't count anyways.
