    Bear with me on this comment as it's kinda long. Being an above average DIY'er, I've pretty much taught myself over many years now how to tackle almost any type of repair work, which has included working on most any vehicle, constructions jobs and Home Repairs, but not just for myself. I've helped a lot of friends over the years that just didn't have the skill set to do their own repairs, and too DANG CHEAP to get someone else they'd have to pay top dollar for to do it for them, thus this is where I always came into play, lol. Now to the "Meat" of the story. Once I discovered the Freud Diablo Demon Line of blades (first one I purchased was a reciprocating saw blade) that was it for me. I'll never use another brand again. I'll use-up my remaining DeWalt and other various blades I have laying around, but I'll only buy the Freud Diablo Demon Line of cutting tools when the need arises in the future. Can't wait to get some of these Masonry Bits! But so far I can't seem to find them For-Sale anywhere here in the USA? Anyone got a lead on where these can be purchased from here in the USA? Thanks! Don't make me have to buy them from the Brits, lol. But, I will if-in I have to. :-)

      namrednop Might want to look for your local tool shop. Not the HD/Lowe’s big box, but an actual tool store. Especially the saw and drill sharpening businesses typically carry Freud, Lenox, Bosch, Milwaukee and/or Hilti.
      Depending on your location, HD Supply/White Cap is large national tool chain, as is Grainger Supply. Both carry full Freud line, but their prices are typically not competitive. If you’re ok online shopping, Acme or even Amazon carry Diablo products. Good luck

      I’ve changes to Freud blades on all my saws - 12inch mitre, 7 inch circular, 6/12 inch recip saw... all are amazing! I can cut through nail embedded wood like butter.
      I’m def keen to get a few of these bits.

      Are they? Seems like a gimmick. He heated up the tip, then waited far longer for it to cool down than they waited for the Hilti to cool down. Essentially, they made the test harder for the Hilti bit. Then when they asked them to drill two holes in rapid succession, he didn't do it. Later, when asked how the carbide tip is attached, he answered some other question, not the question that was asked. Too much BS. I'm not sold. Try drilling 10 holes in a row, non-stop, to demonstrate how great it is. Talk is cheap. Evasive answers are even cheaper.

    First of its kind? I realize this vid is a year old but Hilti has been producing TE-CX drills for a few years now. I love that these Diablo’s are less than 25% the cost of TE-CX so I just ordered one to try, just that it is not first to market

    Just a thought. To see how it's actually cutting the rebar, wouldn't it be possible to just drill through the rebar on the outside portion of the concrete?

  • @roccoreid2842
    @roccoreid2842 4 роки тому +5

    Maybe ask, "What's the most number of times it has hit rebar in any manner before failing?" Or "What's the range?" I can see avoiding the general question of how many times, but people can't crunch any numbers at all unless they have some idea of how many times they're likely to get out of their bit. As customers buy and try them out, they're going to find out anyway, so why not at least give an estimated expectation? You know darn well that they have the answers in their metrics after a ton of tests during the engineering stage. So why not share the findings? Also, if they provide the information, they get to control the narrative as to how they arrived at the numbers and why those numbers are cost effective. Once others are using them, they will come up with their own interpretation of what those numbers are and some will be convinced that it's cheaper to do the extra work with their traditional methods, when they might actually be looking at things the wrong way.

      yeah, in my experience engineering minds tend to answer vaguely to avoid saying something that is wrong (I myself was satisfied with the "it depends" answer).

    The carbide was forged in not welded in. Softer steel is used for the body harder steel is used at the tip. They can also use a variable heat treat to get that result.

      That's what I do when I hit rebar. Helps to go slower too, the drill bit will not heat up as fast as when you're going full speed. Currently I use Hilti 4 cutter drill bits, hopefully these new Diablo bits work better. Can't wait to try them out

      Depending how critical dimension is, a 1/4” is only .015 larger. Alternatively, Hilti TE-CX are available in metric w/4 carbide cutter head that works great in rebar concrete. Downside is the cost of Hilti is 4X higher...as typical

      start with a tiny drill, drill a pilot hole all the way through, when you almost get to the end of the conrete, use very little pressure, even you can put the drill off hammer but takes a while. Then drill using a larger drill bit from one side of the wall half way in, then from the other side of the wall

  • @EwenorKvM
    @EwenorKvM Рік тому

    Unfortunately not a side-by-side comparison, and which Hilti bit did they use (TE-CX)? Over here the Diablo cost about twice what a Hilti TE-CX would cost you, or about 3x the price of the Bosch 7x/8x. A comparison with the latter would be great, as they performed well in side-by-side comparison (the fastest to go through concrete with 10mm steel plates).
