Awesome tips. Thank you. My hair is long but rather thin. I understand that layers give you so many opportunities but I am afraid that it might look to thin with the layers. Maybe I am wrong because it would maybe give me more volume instead in styling. Wow I sure would like to be in this chair and you would cut those layers right and do a miracle with my hair. This is awesome! I’m SO glad you like the content. It’s a random combination but I wanted to mix things I’m passionate about. Thankfully people seem to be resonating with it.
Thank you Tracy! I think I’m most excited for part 2 because I haven’t done a deep dive into the technical stuff with you all yet. I really think it’s going to help a lot!
@@justinhickox I’m excited about technical! I moved away from my hair stylist and gave up finding one here after several failed attempts. So I’ve been trimming my own hair for the past year as I’ve been growing it out. I really enjoy being in control of my hair and am hoping to pick up some tips I can use to keep it stylish and flattering while I continue to grow it long and maintain it myself.
I just love that you emphasize recognizing the length that your hair actually supports. I'm older and know this is true for me. I love the hikes! It's random but it lends a good bit of earth to this glossy section of the world. I really like how you break down the logic of good shaping. Thanks for doing it! Can I be personal for a second? I had cancer when I was in kindergarten. I started 1st grade without hair except for super thin wisps here and there. I'm obsessed with keeping long hair because I have it now. When I go for haircuts I know the power of a good strong line and layers because of one good stylist I had once.. The stylists I find lately just don't cut enough. I think it's fear of cutting too much, which I really do appreciate. They don't know my past though. It's just the commitment to "the longest hair possible" mentality that makes it hard for the stylists I think. I said I'm older. I'm almost 55. Winter is here. I'm sick of getting knots from wearing scarf. Winter sucks for long hair! Scarves, sweaters, micro fibers, and wool. The back suffers even if it's up. I'm not even sure what I want but I'm thinking medium length might be easier to manage. I'm watching a lot of your videos! Thanks for making them!
This is ME(!), Justin! Oh, my. Can’t wait for every part. For Part 1, I’m sold on layered. At 72, it’s long, because I’m tall and overweight, and short makes me look like a pinhead. Hair - with volume - can and will help balance me out. But at 72 - with really fine hair - it’s like the volume is gone. You know. Thinning... So, Phat Hair will be the ‘thing’, and I can’t wait for Part 3. Plus, layered about the eyes and cheekbones is necessary with my oh-so very high brow. The question(s) become: 1) Can I layer it myself? ... and 2) besides Phat Hair, is there a good place to buy hairpieces (like ponytony?) to pin in at the back top, when it’s pulled back? The challenges are both cutting it myself and for the piece, matching hair texture and white/gray coloring... LOVE the walks for your videos! Loved how in the forest shots you have the sunlight dappling the forest floor. I’d be there if I could! The view of the lake was phenomenal... Thanks! LInda
Thank you so much! I’m really so glad I could help. I totally understand where you’re coming from. I’m going to show a lot more of the technical side of cutting in part two which I really think you’ll like. As far as cutting layers at home, you absolutely can! I’ve actually created an entire master class where I teach people how to do their hair at home both cutting and coloring. I also have a free webinar where I tell people how to avoid the common mistakes when doing your hair at home. Have you had a chance to check that out yet? I think you would love it. As for the hairpieces, honestly I don’t work that much with hair pieces so I would need to look a bit deeper into that. However I do want to do a video about them so I am doing some research on that topic.
@@justinhickox I have going over all of your videos for homework. I’ll start with the ‘home’ one if I can find it. Can’t wait for Part 2, and am grateful you’ll look into hairpieces! Hard for beginners to know whom to trust AND to try to match texture and color. Blessings! You’re SO wonderful for all you share!
Excellent video. Virtually hiking...hair advice...friendly and knowledgeable teacher. What a treat! Thank you for taking all the time and effort to create such works of art.
My favorite way to wear my long hair for an occasion is the front part pulled up in a ponytail. It does that volume around the temple thing and the rest of the hair being down seems to help the neck seem longer. Love your videos and the scenery.
I really appreciate these videos. I had mostly one-length hair grown out on purpose and it was down to my waist. I’m 55, and felt like just having fun. It bothered me in photos though. I am a retired stylist of over 25+ years and still enjoyed learning your technique. It’s perfect! I cut about 4”-5” off and sectioned the back. Layered and cut into the hair in snips. My hair is very naturally curly, and people constantly want to thin it. No! It does not work for me. But, this took the heaviness out while shaping it and gave the bottom the thickness and neatness it needed. Thank you!
Two important facts that keep us all sane are feeling good about ourselves and nature - you, Justin tick both boxes 👏 - your brilliant advise on the right hairstyles and taking us thro amazing treks, lifts our spirits. Thank you. Can’t wait for next week 😊
This makes me so happy! I was really concerned about trying to build an audience in hair from hiking, but it seems to be working and I couldn’t be happier about it. Thank you so much for the support.
Your wife has Gorgeous Hair! I actually watched part 2 then part 3, now part 1 but I’m getting it. I’m definitely into layers!!! My last hairdresser cut my links way too short so I’ve had to let it grow back out. Hopefully I can get it right this time. Thank you so much for your videos and please tell your wife that we are thankful to her help too.
I got my long hair layered about a year ago and it’s the best my hair has ever looked. Wish I had done it years ago. And oh yeah it looks SO much thicker! 👍
This is great timing. I’m thinking of adding layers but coming from a bad experience few years ago, hesitant. Little old for long, straight hair. Gonna hold off booking with my stylist til I watch the rest of this series. Beautiful walk today. Wow. Thank you Justin.
I’m so glad this is gonna work out really well for you. Definitely make sure to watch video to in the series. I’ll be uploading that and releasing it on Tuesday of next week. It’s going to give you so much insight and I really think you’re gonna like it.
Omygosh that hike was fun to be on, thank you! The views were spectacular! Those trees, that pathway, and the blue sky. Miss it so much. O, and the bang info was exceptional, too. I learned a lot and am implementing the new angle to refocus the accent of the lower full face-ness.
This is a great series! I'm 56 with long fine hair (but lots of it) with quite a bit of wave (ugh..in the back only!). Often struggled with hair layered incorrectly in the past, and it makes such a difference to how the hair turns out when it's done right and looks so much healthier and thicker. Confession...I already watched #3 so next up is #2 in this series. Can't wait to see more of what you put out!
I’m in the same boat ! My hair is like yours . Im stick straight in front while curly/ wavy at the nape . The top layer in back is straight . So there’s a layer of hair over the curly part that is straight. My hair is thin enough that the wrong layers make my ears stick out too . My hair is 2.5-3 feet long . It’s actually healthy at the bottom cuz I don’t do anything to it . I absolutely crave layered hair because I have had it done right before but I’ve had it done wrong more than I’ve had it done right so it makes me scared. My favorite stylist moved away about five years ago and I’ve not had a layered since cuz I don’t want the shelf look or the scraggly look . I’m a bit lazy about hair cuz I do construction and cleaning. So it’s hard to have cute hair.
Beautiful scenery, calm voice and useful information.. I found another one of your videos just randomly. But now I am hooked and think I'm on like video 5 or 6 tonight lol.
I loved listening to all of your advice and insights. I agree, that I DO need volume at my temples to bring the eye upwards. I have not been able to find a stylist to do this, long layering, long length. Hence, long, boring hair. I won't lose hope though! Thank you so very much for these videos! Stay safe you guys! Jeanie
What a sweet couple you are.... and your pups.... and that view! You’re awesome as is your wife! Please pet the pooches for me and breathe in that beautiful air on your next hike. I miss the mountains. Moved to FL 13 years ago from the mountains of New England. Awesome share Justin!!
Great video - beautiful view! I have long hair and just got some face framing layers/long fringe .... so much better! The one length hair was dragging my face down and as you say zero movement ....
Loved the video, I'm back! I've not been able to watch any of your videos & so missed your hiking. How beautiful was that view? Thank you so much & also for my long hair & layers series, YAY!!! I've waited a long time for this. I forgot to comment on this one so I commented on 2nd video & then came back & watched this one again. Your wife is stunning & her hair looked beautiful. I'm scared of layers at the back, I've had so many disasters & now I have a neck injury I can't hold my arms up for very long so I don't know how I'm going to do this but I've still got part 3 to watch but I'm going to need some tips on styling back layers with arms/hands that get painful & numb, I will not give in lol! It's great to be back.👍🙋♀️😍💗✨🌈✌👀⁉
Another superb video! Loved the tip about cleaning up the ends. The stringy ends to try to get more length look unkept and unhealthy to me. I also see that with extensions a lot. Great tips about strategic volume too. Thank you 🙏
Great video! I have shoulder length hair and see that I need layers. But I'm one of the scaredy cats because they've always turned out poorly and make my hair look thinner. Wish some of the stylists were better trained--do you think that's the problem??
That’s a great question! What I can say is this, a lot of the techniques I’ve seen taught in beauty schools have a tendency to make it easy for stylists to overlay her hair. If they aren’t taught after school how to avoid that, they have a tendency to layer hair a bit too much sometimes and end up making it look thin. With that said, in part two of the series I’m going to explain all of that and you’re going to understand All of that and you’re gonna understand so much more about your hair and how to avoid that specific issue as well as a bunch of others..
What a great view!! Ty, ty!! We are on lockdown (not salons, tho) again here in Minnesota and it’s sooo nice to see something different! I have great difficulty w some of my clients in convincing them about layers, so I will copycat your great words! Thanks!!
Btw, Justin, would you ever consider a video/master class on color, Balyage, darkened root w highlights/lowlights?? After this crazy Covid is over, maybe having your subscribers that are stylists fly out your way to Oregon for a class?? Just a fun thought!!😊
Hi Justin - I have a confession to make...while you know how much I enjoy and have learned from your videos, I do hereby confess that they've now become my weekly escape wherein I vicariously hike with you in my mind since your views far surpass mine in New York City!. I'm curious as to how many hours you allow yourself for your 'hiking escape' and what distance. I decided that the best length for my hair is about an inch below my shoulders. With your tips, I decided that my best length is about an inch below my shoulders with my front layers (bangs?) hitting me at my chin. After having bangs for so many years, I'm hitting a rough spot adjusting to having hair in my face since I wear it down during the day and immediately pull it back into a ponytail or up with a clip once I'm home. So, any tips on how to find a happy medium? Thank you as always for your guidance, suggestions and support. You rock 'Grandpa'!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I’m so happy to hear that I can take you virtually out into a little escape. Are usually hike somewhere in the neighborhood of eight or so miles when I’m filming a video. Nothing super long but I go really early in the morning and try to get back into the woods as far as I can to make sure that I get away from people coming purposes. A video Usually takes me about 3/4 of the day to film because of the hike time and driving time. As for front layers, it’s tough to say to be honest. It may be that having some shorter pieces like a bang might work better for you if it’s all falling in your face. Then when you pull it back just knowing that you’re going to have to maybe use a couple of clips to get some of it back off of your face. It’s kind of a tough in between scenario to be honest.
I'm a recent subscriber and loving how easy you make it to understand hair. By the way..great sense of humor! Bigfoot is probably within a couple hundred feet of you every time you're out showing us that great scenery ! Seriously 😮👍
Justin... I have to say, I just LOVE your videos! Not just for the hair advice, but the hiking footage! I'm an Aussie, and I live in a beautiful bush setting (I guess you guys over there would call it forest), but my god, the forests in your videos are just AMAZING! Wish I were there hiking with you! Though... like you said, you have to watch out for cougars and bears, we have none of them here, despite our global reputation of having things here everywhere that want to kill you! (though you would come across snakes, and we do have some of the most venomous snakes in the world!). Keep em coming, can't wait to see the next two vids! xxoo
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I really do enjoy making the more adventure styled videos. I want to get to Australia so bad! There are so many places I wanna go see around there.
I just found your 3 part series. Love it! I’m trying to find inspo for my next haircut. I haven’t had one in over 3 years and it has no layers and no shape and it’s super long. I’m terrified of thinning and too much layers. So happy I found these videos.
I just started watching your channel and I love it! Some of the techniques that you tell us about I use and people have told me that there wrong. Hurrah I'm right!
Gorgeous surrounds Justin 👌 You couldn't have better background "music" than nature 🌱🐦💕 Love your "Hair Adventures/Venturing into the Wilderness" 🤭😁😀 LOVE these videos Justin & your personality shines right through as well. Healthy looking hair is a key to style ( where you talked about cutting the length at the strongest growth as opposed to where it looks broken & it's just not looking balanced ) layers have been great for my long hair because I am tall & I have a long neck & a longer face shape. I avoid one length as this basically looks ridiculous on me 😆😂🤣😭 I have a great stylist/colourist & he does many of the things you teach on your channel. I'm very blessed to have such a talented Hairdresser who understands his clients needs & explains what he's doing & why. Great video Justin 👌 look forward to the 2nd part of the "Trilogy" take care 🙋♀️
Thank you!!! I’m so glad your liking my adventures!!! I appreciate the kind words! Sounds like you definitely found a great stylist! That’s awesome!!! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on part 2 (it goes live tomorrow morning)!
Absolutely love the nature walks. What beautiful scenery you share with us as you are teaching us. I know in one video you have scene wildlife but have you ever come in close contact/been stalked before? This was a great video as I do need to take into consideration about layering a little more, I feel a little boxy as I have a little longer than chin length hair and just feel like it is an abrupt stop. Thanks for the amazing videos/tips, you are amazing!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I feel pretty fortunate so far, I haven’t been stocked that I’m aware of. I have seen tracks and heard things but I try to take as many precautions as I can. I ride the fence, I love wildlife and I would love to see more and have more encounters but I also don’t wanna die! LOL.
I will have to tell you after I cut my hair for the first time with long hair from one of your videos my daughter gave me a look like I've never seen because she actually could not believe that it was so perfect and I did it with one simple cut
I have a lot of gray now, brown hair. I had a bad color job, too blond on top. Darker on ends and it turned brassy. Just a trim blunt cut on my straight thin loooong hair. At 59, I looked sad. I'm thin and short. All your ideas are what I need! I finally found a good colorist. Looks like my natural color! Even looks great 6 weeks later I had her take off length. It's breast length now and healthier, but one length with long bangs. Now I need to go back for shape. Good tips!
I love your channel and have watched all your videos, many more than once. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the knowledge you share. It's wonderful. I'm 68 and will retire soon. When I do, I no longer want to color my hair, because I'll no longer have to compete with the 20 year olds. (Ha! Ha!) I don't have much gray hair yet, but my hair is very dull and it clumps, it just gathers in these clusters at the tips, so I keep it short and I color it. Is there something I can use on my hair to make it shine and keep it from clumping? Am I asking for too much? I'd love to see a video on dull hair that clumps. Hopefully, I'm not the only one who can benefit from this information. I've watched videos on glazing and am wondering if that's an alternative. Thanks for all you do. You're such a darling!
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate the kind words. I’m not totally sure what you mean by clumping. Would you be able to explain that a bit more for me?
I absolutely love your way of giving all the important tips and tricks and what to avoid.I am 'addicted' to your videos. Thank you so much Ps. I think Hickox's Hairventures would be a great tribe name for our community. It combines our love for hair and nature
I always have long hair. When I go for layers, it turns out so bad that I eventually just cut all the layers off and have to restart the growth process again. I think my problem is, I don’t style my hair. So when I have layers it looks really choppy. Every stylist says that it’s my hair texture that makes the layers look so choppy. Is that really a thing? 😄
This is such a great point! In part two of the series I’m going to talk a lot about what creates that choppiness what creates the illusion of thinness and how to avoid all of those. I’m excited to share that part because I think it will help you so much!
@@pappyone6062 I have never had razor done on mine they always used scissors and it looked crap! My hair is fine but i have a lot of it i like mine one length looks so much better. Its hard to find a good hairdresser.
Thank you’ I’m really glad you like them. Long layers are a good question. You can do them but I usually push people away from them. In Part 2 if this series I’ll explain and show exactly why I lean towards a certain amount of layering.
Well this took a very fast left turn into the wilderness..but I’m HERE FOR IT😄very unexpected place to talk hair but hiking is one of my fav things to do so I’m vibing..but it is funny😁Carry on.
I watched Part 2 last night. I am somewhat interested in layering my hair again, as it got REALLY heavy once it got to be around 3 feet long. Once it was long enough for me to wrap 2 pigtail braids around my head for a crown braid effect, my goal, I realized I'm too German (round face) & my hair is too thick - it looked ridiculous. I tried the wolf cut technique and got adequate layers at the bottom to remove some weight, but then my braid was too choppy. I have extremely thick (about 4.5 inch ponytail circumference) hair which is also extremely stubborn. When wet it has a pretty wave pattern, but that mostly falls out by the time it dries (~12 hours...very nonporous). I finally figured out how to bun my hair at 38 - I have to use a hairstick & it HAS to be extra long in order to be able to make a twist and have enough tail to tuck underneath (I usually do a nautilus bun). Still, it would be nice to have it down without it being entirely in my face & having some movement. It won't respond to curling irons & hairspray, so styling that way isn't an option for me. Is it possible for me to have layers that don't make my braid have huge pieces sticking out & allow me to still bun my hair?
Hello from Australia! I especially love the wilderness adventures! I recently grew out grey hair by cutting it all off incredibly short. Could you possibly give us some tips on effective ways to grow length into hair from really short. Thanks heaps mate!
That’s a great idea! I’ll definitely consider working that into a future video. I have my next handful of videos already planned out, because I have to, but don’t give up on it, I’ll definitely try to work on that because I think it’s a great idea. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@justinhickox Hi Justin, thanks for covering the topic of growing out hair in your latest Hair Mistakes video featuring the lovely Holly! Happy New Year from Australia 🇦🇺.
Did not know you were in WA. What is your Salon? I use to live there and would love to come see you when we visit our friends. I have grown my hair out and loving it. Because of one of your videos about age and longer hair I grew it out!!
Do u do color? I’m a dark brunette and want highlights but my stylist gives me Cooper ish yellow highlights and I want more of an ash blonde? Can I get that without drying my hair? Thank you
I have thick, wavy, below the shoulder length hair. My stylist avoids layers as she knows I don’t want my hair to appear thicker. I would like face framing layers. I’m 59 years old and am tired of this boring style...help! Love your videos! 😀
Hey! Thank you Joanne. I appreciate that. I would go the opposite way a bit. If your hair is thick and wavy, layering it can be one of the best ways to remove volume. It’s tough to say without seeing you but I would say front layering at a minimum would be a good move and more than likely layers on the back would be a solid choice as well!
Maybe I'm at the end of the line with my current stylist. Whenever I try to talk about doing something new, she just says, "I need a picture of what you want." I pay her a lot of money, and I think she should know these hair design principles you're speaking of, and be able to give me a cut that's right for me, without a picture.
I hear ya! I personally love photos as well but they definitely don’t replace a consultation. The right questions should get us to a place that we can figure out what some good options could be. The photos usually just speed the process up a bit more or less.
After watching all 3 videos in this series, I went for the lob. My stylist had no idea what I (you) meant by "internal" layers. Can you explain that term please?
I'm 61 and have long hair. I have a long layered cut, except my hairdresser cut the top layer of my hair too short. I wear my hair pulled back and the top layers pop out. I didn't want that. I have a lot of hair, about 50/50 gray and sandy blonde which is grown out highlights. I haven't had my hair cut or trimmed since December 2019. At this time, I don't "want a new look"...I am content for the moment. I do curl and style my hair, and it is not dry or scraggly. I condition, wash twice to three times a week, and use little heat. My hair is fine, dense, heavy but has natural body. Layers DO give shape and movement, just don't want that top short layer. I am afraid to go back to him. He highlights hair just fine..
Sorry to hear about your layers. I actually see that all the time. I think you’re going to love the 2nd video in this series (that will be posted tomorrow at 6:15 AM PST). I break down a haircut and how to avoid the common mistakes. Layers being cut too short is one of the key points I hit on.
@@justinhickox Thank you Justin for taking the time to respond to my question. I will definitely watch tomorrows video. Thank you so much for all you do. Appreciate it.
I really enjoy your videos and especially beautiful hikes!! I have tried all my life to grow long beautiful hair and it just doesn't get what I call long 😭. I guess I have obsessed over long hair all my life, but it's my ultimate desire. I am taking biotin Ultra Hair, & many many many countless vitamins for hair with no results. Even when I rinse my hair I switch the temperature of water from warm to cold to shock the roots or stir them up to grow .... NO results. Since you're in the hair industry do you have any secrets about how to grow long beautiful hair or hair vitamins? If so please do share with me! Thank you so much in advance!!!
Hey Teresa! That’s a great question. I think the hardest part is that there are SO many factors. A broad answer would be....I would pay attention to ALL of these things equally. 1. Scalp condition (making sure you’re taking care of your scalp, stimulating blood circulation etc) 2. Nutrition over vitamins. Vitamins play a key roll in hair health but the best versions of vitamins will be through Whole Foods. 3. Stress. Hair grows from the roots not the ends so taking care of our body is a big deal for hair health. Healthy hair grows longer than unhealthy hair. 4. Physical stress on your hair. Pay attention to how damaging your day to day process is and minimize the damage where possible. 5. Texture. Some textures grow to a certain length and it’s nearly impossible to get them longer than that. 6. Olaplex. The best way to reduce breakage is to rebuild disulfide bonds in your hair. Olaplex is the ONLY product that has the ability to do that currently. #3 is the one that does this.
What happens when you have sparse fine hair? feel layering will just make my hair look even finer and in poor condition. I'm scared to layer as its taken mevso long to get it all one length and looking healthy?
Are you still seeing clients? If so, what is the best way to request an appointment? I have requested one through the website but haven't received a response. Thanks
Hey! Thanks for reaching out. I sent you a message, but usually calling the salon is the easiest way to get an appointment. Looking forward to seeing you.
Continued... also sideburns, and above the ear. How can I get them to quit doing the. It looks bad, because I do where it in a ponytail 95% of the time. Any suggestions? It's along sides of eyes that I try to leave long that always gets cut. Thank you for your fun, informative videos!
The first time I had layers added to my hair, someone asked me how I got a haircut and ended up with 'more hair'. So yes, agree good layers absolutely can make your hair look fuller and thicker!

OK if I want to watch nature hike videos I will go do that but all that was SO distracting here!!! some good tips probably but I didn't get much out of this video. Hiking or hair advice. Pick one.
Quick question. You would still want the volume in essentially the same areas. Once it gets shorter, it does depend a bit more on the face shield and personal preference is though.
@@justinhickox Thank you for getting back to me. I want more volume on top. I am on heavier side so I don't want to make my neck more prominent. My hair is very coarse and can never let it air dry.
Thanks!

I love that you talk while having an outdoor adventure. Nature is so beautiful!
Excellent video. Virtually hiking...hair advice...friendly and knowledgeable teacher. What a treat! Thank you for taking all the time and effort to create such works of art.
Wow....thank you so much for that! Comments like these sincerely make my day! Thanks!!! 🙏
My favorite way to wear my long hair for an occasion is the front part pulled up in a ponytail. It does that volume around the temple thing and the rest of the hair being down seems to help the neck seem longer. Love your videos and the scenery.
Thank you! And you’re spot on. That’s a great way to do exactly what I was talking about and a really cool look.
Thank you!
You’re so welcome. Glad you’re liking them! Thank you!!!
Two important facts that keep
us all sane are feeling good about ourselves and nature - you, Justin tick both boxes 👏 - your brilliant advise on the right hairstyles and taking us thro amazing treks, lifts our spirits. Thank you. Can’t wait for next week 😊
This makes me so happy! I was really concerned about trying to build an audience in hair from hiking, but it seems to be working and I couldn’t be happier about it. Thank you so much for the support.
Thank you for explaining things so well. Love the nature settings also. 😊
Omg! My favorite new channel. Hiking and excellent hair advice. Count me as a subscriber.Thank you!
Thank you so much!!! Welcome to the fam.
Thank you!!! I really appreciate that feedback and the support!! So happy I could help!
Love that you shared your passion and skill while on a hike!
Thank you! I’m so glad you like that combo. I know it’s random. Thanks for the support!
Love the trilogy so far & of course the hike and views! Thank you ☀️
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you liked it. I can’t wait for two and three. I think you’re gonna love them as well.

Really enjoy your vids!!! Thank you
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Great video - beautiful view! I have long hair and just got some face framing layers/long fringe .... so much better! The one length hair was dragging my face down and as you say zero movement ....
That’s awesome! I’m glad those front layers work so well for you. You’re so on point as well, it gives the hair so much more life and movement.
I love your videos! The hiking. Cool and different. 👍
Beautiful views! Thanks Justin! This sort of explains why people tell me how long my hair looks after I get a haircut.
Awesome! So glad you liked it! Thank you!
It's great to be back.👍🙋♀️😍💗✨🌈✌👀⁉
Hey!!! Great to have ya back. So sorry to hear about your neck and arms! Hope everything calms down soon!! I appreciate the support a ton!!!
Another superb video! Loved the tip about cleaning up the ends. The stringy ends to try to get more length look unkept and unhealthy to me. I also see that with extensions a lot. Great tips about strategic volume too. Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. And you’re so right when it comes to extensions. I see that all the time as well.
Great tips!!and thanks for the hike...awesome views it makes me think of going up to the mountains soon!!!!!

Thank you for the beautiful views and these amazing tips.❤
You’re so welcome! Thanks for checking them out!
Hi there, I'm really enjoying your videos. I've worked for 42 yrs in the salon. Thanks for sharing.❤
You have so much great info. I am making my stylist view this video! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that vote of confidence!
That was just a fun, informative and refreshing video
Thank you! I sincerely appreciate that!
What a great view!! Ty, ty!! We are on lockdown (not salons, tho) again here in Minnesota and it’s sooo nice to see something different! I have great difficulty w some of my clients in convincing them about layers, so I will copycat your great words! Thanks!!
Can I just say....you’re awesome. I truly appreciate your support. Glad to hear you’re still allowed to work too!
Btw, Justin, would you ever consider a video/master class on color, Balyage, darkened root w highlights/lowlights?? After this crazy Covid is over, maybe having your subscribers that are stylists fly out your way to Oregon for a class?? Just a fun thought!!😊
I would absolutely do that. I’m actually working on a few things through some different avenues for stylists. I appreciate the suggestion for sure!
thank you for explain how to layer longer hair. great video.
Keep em coming, can't wait to see the next two vids! xxoo

You couldn't have better background "music" than nature 🌱🐦💕
Love your "Hair Adventures/Venturing into the Wilderness" 🤭😁😀 LOVE these videos Justin & your personality shines right through as well.

Never liked one length hair...always have had layering love it...layering suits and flatter all ages...I'm 64 with long layered hair love it🙂
Right! Layers are KEY! IMO.

I’am loving this trail
I always have long hair. When I go for layers, it turns out so bad that I eventually just cut all the layers off and have to restart the growth process again. I think my problem is, I don’t style my hair. So when I have layers it looks really choppy. Every stylist says that it’s my hair texture that makes the layers look so choppy. Is that really a thing? 😄
This is such a great point! In part two of the series I’m going to talk a lot about what creates that choppiness what creates the illusion of thinness and how to avoid all of those. I’m excited to share that part because I think it will help you so much!
Same here i think you need a very good hairdresser to do layers and hard to find on a low income.
@@pam164 hopefully part 2 of this series will shed some light on how to make sure the layers are done correctly.
I have fine hair amd my hairdresser makes wonderful layers with a razor.

Love the views! Thank you so much for your advice!
You’re so welcome! Glad to help!
Layers are ridiculous
Hello from Australia! I especially love the wilderness adventures! I recently grew out grey hair by cutting it all off incredibly short. Could you possibly give us some tips on effective ways to grow length into hair from really short. Thanks heaps mate!
That’s a great idea! I’ll definitely consider working that into a future video. I have my next handful of videos already planned out, because I have to, but don’t give up on it, I’ll definitely try to work on that because I think it’s a great idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hickox's Hairventures!!
What if your hair is long, poker straight and Asian? It will just look the same but choppy. Unless I spend an hour blow drying, curling, etc.
Get it? He’s “walking” us through it ... 😉😆
Ha! 😂 (drum riff, cymbal)
Just looked on Trapper Creek Wilderness photos - AWESOME!
It was pretty epic for sure. I definitely like that area.
Ha ha! I love adventures and I am hair obsessed. So perfect!
My tribe!
Where are you located ? I’d love to cut my super long hair by you. I want something that will make on my long hair a volume and a shape
1. Scalp condition (making sure you’re taking care of your scalp, stimulating blood circulation etc)

Continued... also sideburns, and above the ear. How can I get them to quit doing the. It looks bad, because I do where it in a ponytail 95% of the time. Any suggestions?
It's along sides of eyes that I try to leave long that always gets cut. Thank you for your fun, informative videos!
Just think of all the fun times you're going to have hiking with your grandson.
Very true.
The first time I had layers added to my hair, someone asked me how I got a haircut and ended up with 'more hair'. So yes, agree good layers absolutely can make your hair look fuller and thicker!
It’s crazy right!!! Layers can add so much fullness!!
Wow that would be cool… a big foot hair cut ☺️
I am in Poland , Łódź
Love ❤️ your advice, I totally agree. Looks like you’re in Washington I think 🤔. I am a hair stylist in the neighboring state of Oregon.
Thank you!!! And good call! I live in Washington but my salon is actually in Portland! Where are you??
@@justinhickox I’m in Bend, Oregon
@@justinhickox Washington is beautiful 🤩
@@warriorgoddesscrystalgeome6337 I would LOVE to move to Bend!!! My wife and I are actually looking at some property in Eastern Washington this weekend. Looking to find more sun. I want Bend, but in Washington.....for taxes! LOL
@@justinhickox lol 😂 yes that’s why we moved here, because we need SUN ☀️ Otherwise I would get seasonal disorder. Well I hope you guys find a decent property and some more sun 🌞 oh yeah those pesky TAXES. 😂
Hi I love your videos I’m having a problem with my hair I would like a change I am 47 and I have thick long hair my face shape I would say more like a oval shaped I have long bangs but I’m not sure what would be better for me please help me 🙏🏼
Thank you! There’s a lot of options there. It really depends on your hair texture, face shape, lifestyle, and what you feel most confident in. I always say, it’s not a length that will look good or bad, it’s what you do within the length.
Are you in Oregon? That looks like my state! 😀
You are! I knew it! We have the prettiest views!
Where is your salon? I want to come get my hair cut! 😁
O how I wish you lived near me so you could do my hair cause you are right I tried bangs but they messed them up and now I'm scared of bangs but I need to do something I have very long hair almost all one length and it's super thick and I want a new look and some cut off the ends it's so thick I have a hard time washing it
Hi I really like your UA-cam. Do you have videos for natural curly hair. I am Seventy years young. I have the hardest time with my hair. I always wore it short but now I am letting it grow. Help if you do have a video. Could you please let me know how to get it thank you
I do currently have one video on curly hair and I will be making more. I think you’d actually get a lot of good info out of the one I currently have as well. I’d love to hear your feedback.
@@justinhickox Thank you I will save it and let you know
@@justinhickox Thank you I just saved it on natural curly hair. I will let you. I live in a very small town. It is in Crescent City CA. Almost in Oregon. It is right by the Amazing Pacific Ocean. It is 86 miles to the closest big town and 126 miles the other way. So you can understand how much I appreciate the internet with UA-cam
I have thick hair and thick strands so I don't want layering it makes them more looks thicker?
OK if I want to watch nature hike videos I will go do that but all that was SO distracting here!!! some good tips probably but I didn't get much out of this video. Hiking or hair advice. Pick one.
What about above chin length coarse thick hair?
Quick question. You would still want the volume in essentially the same areas. Once it gets shorter, it does depend a bit more on the face shield and personal preference is though.
@@justinhickox Thank you for getting back to me. I want more volume on top. I am on heavier side so I don't want to make my neck more prominent. My hair is very coarse and can never let it air dry. If I do, hair will be going all different directions. I am 66 so I don't want to have shaved sides. Thank you again.
I would so love to have my hair layered like you did your wife. How do I find a stylist who can cut like this? I simply do not cut my hair any longer because no one wants to deal with my long hair or they simply cut the hair like you warn not to do.
i come for hair, but stay for adventure
That makes me so happy! I really love sharing the adventure part of these videos with you and I’m so glad people are responding well to it.
