I normally don’t catch these until way after the upload time. But this one worked out. I’m all the way up in Pennsylvania so I have no butterfly or moth activity right now. But if we go by what the groundhog said this morning we’ll have an early spring😂. The Io was a good find. I see their northern friends quite frequently here. Actually I see every American saturniid species except the pine devil where I live. It’s a fun place. Lots of Lepidoptera activity in the summer so it keeps me happy.

@@keysmoths5336 Yes there are! My favorite has to be the imperial moth, I love their yellow adults and the caterpillars are really cool too. My favorite butterfly is probably the spicebush swallowtail. They’ve got nice caterpillars so they just get brownie points for that.

Most interesting. I’ve not been to that part of the island.

Wow that wasp mimic is gorgeous.
I've never tried leaving a light on all night mostly because I don't use a generator (I like to hike in to more remote places and use a Li ion battery), when would you normally check it in the morning? Right on/just before sunrise?

I wait until after sun rise because there are many species that fly in twilight hours

@@keysmoths5336decided to use my lamp at home and left it on overnight. It is still dark (4am) but I just checked it and there was a really nice Spynx moth (Hippotion scrofa) which I normally never see (only ever seen 2 Sphynx moths here, well now 3, the only other species was Hippotion celerio back in 2016)
