The fact it can sound so 70s and yet so late-90s at the same time is a testament to how good of a song it is. That huge drum track has a great dance pulse to it, the mad brass popping off everywhere, stabby keys, big guitar strikes. It’s like the best parts of glam rock and 90s Madchester were combined in a lab and just distilled to make a damn great four minutes of pop music.
@doctorwhat The brass, of course! Listening to old 70s tracks (esp KC & The Sunshine Band) brass was riddled through 70s music. A couple of New Romantic bands had a bit of sax (Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran) but screaming trumpets disappeared by the 80s. It's the magic ingredient in Let Me Entertain You ... well, that and the frantic pace it sets.
Chord progression is the same as Sympathy for the Devil by Rolling Stones, might explain the old-time feel. 90s sounded new but looking back a lot of their music was taking older styles from the 70s and 60s like reggae and funk and modernising it with digital sound. After the synth-heavy eighties it certainly sounded like a breath of fresh air
Very few ppl understand synchronizing. All the others became buskers who dont know that and ppl became rock stars who know that. The biggest deal is not to play the same scrap, but be different!!
why sound of 70s? because it is a J.CH.S. song with a different make up. and a different chorus. just listen to it and you could be singing: "every time I look at you I don't understand..." And I don't think it is a coincident, it is very deliberate.
For me Robbie, is a most underrated and misunderstood Entertainer! I bought his "Live At The Albert Hall" Frank Sinatra Tribute Concert DVD. I WAS STUNNED, how good he IS! I saw him in 2nd light!

Robbie has one of the best music videos on the world. Whenever he finds a topic to his clip, he becomes the person he plays in 100%. Of course always adding a piece from himself usually as a joke.
