Welcome to River Bronze, which is all about river smallmouth bass. In this journey, my goal is to become a better river smallmouth angler, and it isn’t complete until I successfully land a 20” smallmouth bass on camera.
In today’s episode, I dropped my inflatable paddle board in the river and floated back down to my car. I had never tried something like this with my SUP so I was a little nervous when I first dropped in. After a few minutes, I realized this is a really fun way to target smallies. I definitely plan to do more river floats on the SUP in the future. Not only did I have a fun fishing platform, I was fortunate enough to get on a nice topwater bite with the buzzbait. The only thing i dont like about this is fear that this series will extend past tomorrow and Ill be on vacation missing it!

Looked like a killer day! That skinny dipper is hands down my favorite swimjig trailer. Fishing on paddleboard can be surprising, I’ve never done it tho personally since I’d probably not be the best candidate🤣especially being in Florida with all these dinosaurs swimming around
But the paddleboard has got some weird fish catching juju, I got a video where my friend caught a 9lb 8 oz right in front of me. Somehow got turned around and had to pull it out of a tree behind his back lol
I think I would poop myself fishing on a paddleboard in your waters. I honestly would be anxious about a kayak haha
Great series man keep up the good work! I’ve been fishing the heck out of our area and haven’t gotten within an inch of your 20 mark but I know they’re out there… LSC has been calling my name for that master angler fish…
Ha I would love to go fish LSC but I still haven't made the time. I trust that day will come though.

Wow that river looks awesome. Smallmouth are definitely my favorite fish to target. This looks like it would be be John's kind of fishing. I'm gonna have to pick me up a couple of those black buzzbaits. 👊👍
This was one of my favorite trips of the year. So much fun on the water!
Never actually caught a top water fish before 👀… I’ve had hits on top water but they just never seem to get the bait🤔
Keep trying it! This fall should be a good time to turn that around. Burn a buzzbait around when the fish start feeding aggressively.

Do smallmouth sit inside the grass or above the grass?
I suppose they do both depending on the season/baitfish. More often than not, I find that bass sit up against the edges of vegetation as it acts like an ambush point for them.

Yoga is the way, Ethan!! My wife has taught yoga for years and I'm very thankful for the things I've learned. Nice fish as always! I've never caught one on a buzz bait although it's not for lack of trying...
I know it would be good for me to do more of it. I run a bit of distance and I know the flexibility would improve my recovery, speed, let alone fishing/recreational sports.

I am loving this series Ethan... Not only switching up and chasing smallies but fishing from a board instead of a kayak. Great to see all of the options available to us, I haven't thought of using a board in the creeks here in KY.
Honestly this was my favorite fishing trip of the year. Floating on a board with one rod and limited tackle is a blast!!

Pink is definitely a good smallie color. Just seems like it is day-to-day on when it works best for whatever reason.
How far were you casting those lures?
Anywhere from 20 feet to 70 feet I suppose.
