Every musician should have a girlfriend or wife who loves music - if not, it's going to hold them back as musician and eventually they'll quit music. I've seen this happen too many times with musician friends.

Beneath the Remains and Arise are very special Sepultura thrash albums. ARISE takes the lead by a hair, as it should being the natural follow up with the benefit of progression. Great band. QUADRA is the CD I have waited over 20 years for. Things went down when Max left, but I didnt automatically assume they would be awful without him.

Favourite classic thrash metal band: Metallica.
Favourite new wave thrash bands: Evile and Havok.
Ps. That answer of the question of the day really touched me. I had that flick of a switch moment after a really tumultuous relationship ended. It's one of my weaknesses that I care too much about what people think of me and that I want to please those people. But when that relationship ended, I just stopped caring...It was such a weird but at the same time relieving feeling. I was always working so hard in school and at work to please others that it brought me to the brink of a severe depression. But having that flick of a switch moment really made me realise what's important in life. And for me those things are my closest friends and bandmates and the good times we spend together, since those are the things you will remember with a smile when you are old.
Keep up the good work Ola and Louise! Greetings from a long time fan from the Netherlands.

Exodus are one of my most absolute favorite bands, the song Last Act of Defiance is a fucking ripper. Another great Thrash band is Violator, also Possessed are classic, always referred to as death metal but their sound is straight up thrash. Demolition hammer are also a sick thrash/death metal band I like alot. Umm Morbid Saint, and also not thrash but a band you need to hear is XOTH from Seattle, technical spacey black thrashy death metal. Check out their newest album "interdimensional Invocations" self released and really next level shit I know you would appreciate.

Anthrax were actually more popular than Slayer and Megadeth at certain points during the 80's and early 90's. If you look at the album chart positions by year, some of their early to mid-career albums were ranked higher than Slayer and Megadeth albums at the time. Their videos were in heavy rotation on MTV and they also had a series of mainstream crossovers like the famous collaboration with Run-DMC on their song "Bring the Noise" and a guest appearance on the episode of "Married With Children", but for some reason since the mid 90s their popularity started declining while the other 3 of the big four were successful at maintaining their relative popularity level throughout the rest of the 90's and early 00's and that's probably why people these days think of them as the 4th of the four, or maybe even undeserving of the spot in the big four. One thing that hit them really hard in the aftermath of 9/11 was the series of terror attacks with letters laced with anthrax that almost caused them to change their name.

Aw cute puppy ( to me every dog is a puppy) Wishing you lots of love and fun with your new family member. :)
Btw Ola.. how could you forget about Kreator? I think they should also be in that list of early bands that still matter today. They're still quite popular amongst Dutch metal fans. ;)

A newer thrash metal band that really stood out to me was "Vektor" with sick uptuned guitars and awesome vocals.
Their album "Outer isolation" is a good starting point, especially the song "Tetrastructural Minds" is a hidden gem!

    Here is my top 3:
    Slayer - Reign in Blood
    Hellhammer - Apocalyptic Raids
    Sepultura - Morbid Visions
    Special mention to:
    Bulldozer - Day of Wrath
    Possessed - Seven Churches
    Sarcofago - INRI
While I admit that first Metallica is quintessential of the subgenre, I never really listened to the other big names of the subgenre. I prefer to focus on underground bands like Dark Angel, Razor, Rigor Mortis (from Dallas)...
I like thrash metal with the following elements:
    - few melodic heavy metal influences
    - palm-muted speedpicking
    - fast skankbeats (around 200 BPM)
    - barked vocals with fast pronounciation and rhythmic ruptures
    - falsetto screams!!!
Falsetto scream is the kind of cherry on the cake which occurs only once per album - the rarer the better...

actually the term thrash came from skateboarding, they used to downhill and it was super adrenaline vibe so some dudes went to a slayer gig and someone said:" this is just like thrashin', cause it was fast and it got you goose bumps, adrenaline thing.

I was the same way with Slayer, just bought a cd one day just because it looked cool, listen to it maybe once and just let it sit for a few months, then one day was bored and needed to mow the lawn so I picked it back up and gave it another go, holy shit I think I listened to that album 6 times that day and bought they're entire discography after that. Slayer is my desert island band, The Acacia Strain is coming close, I really dig their sound and song themes.
