Like the rain in the background actually ❤️
Glad you liked it 😄
Short, sweet, and to the point. I generally use distilled water for my plants. I just bought a spider plant and noticed brown tips and wanted to prevent more. Thank you. 💚
Saved this video in the list of my bedtime videos. Listening to plant talk in a soothing voice along with the sound of rain will definitely put me to sleep, thanks😊
Thank you so much, now I know why I have brown tips on my Spider plants.
You’re welcome! Happy planting!
Oh my goodness, i LOVE the sound of that rain,.
I'm glad that you like it. I find it super relaxing and peaceful.
The same like my spider plant, it’s getting brown tips. Thank you for this information.
This was really informative, especially for me as a new plant owner. Thanks so much!
thank you. I didn't know what I was doing wrong fro supposedly one of the easiest plants to care for 😅
Glad to have helped!
Off topic but your voice is really calming...

Super direct and to the point! No faff:) thanks!
May I ask what "faff" means???
Thanks for sharing that tip! 👍
Very helpful. Thanks.
Thank you green for the great tips
Yes, thank you collecting rain water is also a good tip, but bottled water is defs an option for me as its super hot and not raining. Thank you for this!

Thanks very much for this. I knew Calathea’s hate city tap water, but didn’t know about spider plants.
Glad that I could help!

very simple thank you!
the rain is absolutely wonderful 🙏🏽😭
Thank you for the great information n getting right to the information. I love my Bonnie. It's a big pretty plant only paid $7.50
It started looking unhappy n brown. I changed to distilled water n I started watering once a week doing much better.
Hi! I'm glad that I could help. Aren't spider plants that best? Happy Planting!
Except 'they' add fluoride to tap water along with chlorine.
I love this video with the to the pointedness and your informative tips! Thank you:)
I'm glad to help! LOL I didn't even realize that it came across that way.....ssshhh "they" are listening. #conspiracy
Thank you!

Interesting tip about the perlite. I have a good-size spider plant that has never had brown tips. In the last week or so, though, I've noticed them starting... I thought maybe it was because the plant is growing pups AND beginning to flower and it was all a bit much for the plant. Any ideas, anyone? TIA!
Spider plant likes a little humidity and least fertilizing. Maybe misting the leaves might help. Or you might have fed it chemicals.
good tips! thank youu

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't using rainwater that you have collected a good way to water plants, too? I know that catching rainwater is illegal in some places, but, it's free if it's not illegal for you to collect it.
I have heard that bottled and distilled water doesn't actually stay "pure" for that long, and that the plastic container that the water is in eventually starts to be absorbed, which causes the presence of microplastics in the water. I'm not sure if plants are sensitive to plastic, but that might be something to consider.
Also, I'm not willing to buy water when I'm already paying for water at home, so I appreciate your tip, but I'd rather have brown leaves than pay for bottled or distilled water monthly.
Great video, I appreciate the simple quick help. I don’t mean any criticism as you know what your doing. It gets people thinking!
Fluoride Toxicity... which is in our “natural” water ?
Good thing humans are not spider lilies.
Ty
Good tip
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for this video full of info! I have a question though: Does pumice also contain fluoride like perlite?
Hi! I'm glad that it was helpful!
Pumice doesn't contain trace amounts of fluoride like perlite. However, it is a little bit heavier in the soil.
What about rain water? Would that work as well?
I use rain water and have the same issue . I find it is more over watering that is the problem
Thank you ! Now I can take care of my girl properly 😀
You are AWESOME! Thank you so very much! Intuitionally I knew it was the toxic water. So sad that our planet is so polluted. This definitely convinces me to purchase a distiller.
Fluoride in tap water isn't caused by pollution, it is either naturally occurring or added to municipal water systems in order to promote dental hygiene.
Hi there! I use spring water from outside my city, but the older leaves still get brown tips (not 2 or 3, but most of them), while new one are fine. I tend to think that this is how nature works, as new leaves come out, old ones die out. TBH it has it's charm with it's brown tips while some leaves die, some new ones appear.
Hi! I agree. It's normal for the very mature leaves to turn brown at the tips and eventually die off. It's part of the natural cycle.
Dehumidifier water works well!
I water mine with distilled water and the tips STILL turn brown!
I use filter water. And water it once every two weeks.
I’ve seen my spider babies do pretty good with a medium amount of light.
Thanks! Sophia is gonna be so happy. I wasn't watering her like I should. I them got on my game but the tips were still brown and growing back brown. What is peralite and how do u know if it's in the water?
Have you started using non-tap water? It might be awhile before leaves grow that don't turn brown.
All that beautiful rain, why not use rain water? How much freshly can you get.
That's what I water my plants with 😉
I love my spider plant but I wish I had known this before I bought it. I don’t even buy filtered water for myself lol
LoL Spider plants are so fancy.....only filtered water for them. >_

Hoping this helps my Bonnie and Clyde spider babies. I watered with tap ONCE and they got so upset
You can also buy them at your local nursery.👍Don't forget about the little guys, support small business, local, if possible!✌❤
Thanks for the tip! Definitely support small and local businesses!
Yeah Issa new plant
Thanks so much foe the info. So we just leave the brown tips be? Don’t cut them?
The Epic Gardening guy said to cut any unbecoming leaf right at its base, no harm done. Its a very active plant anyway.
Helpful info delivered in a simple way :) Also, my spider plant has yellow tips with brown at the end, however the new growth looks healthy. Should I be worried? What was the cause of the yellow tips with brown tips at the end (hope that made sense)?
Hi! It sounds like your spider plant is happy-if it has new green growth. The tips are probably yellowing from the water. If you change to using bottled water, the new leaves should stay green at the end.
Let's Talk About Plants oh all right thanks for replying😊
@@user-ki8eu1qv9p You're welcome! Happy planting!
Crazy question can i use the drops for my turtle water Tetra Aquasafe plus water conditioner to clean the water 🤷🏿♀️
Moral of water for spider plants, use rain water
Can you tell me, do you trim the tips straight across or in a V shape,. Which is best?
I think you've mistakenly used the word "fix" in your title. The word you're looking for is "prevent". To "fix" something is to repair it. This video isn't about repairing brown tips, but about avoiding them.
Hey! Teacher! Leave the kid alone! 😅
@@NoBootyBeauty All in all, we’re just another brick 🧱 in the wall. 😘
I had that problem I now use fish tank water🤭🤷 it works for me.
Hi! Fish tank water works good too! All the fish nutrients.
Give it rain water so that the flouride gets washed n u it also gets nutrients.
If you have aquariums , use that water too :)
I bought a spider with brown tips. Can I cut the brown tips off? I use rain water.
I water mine from a well its doing this.. Like 5 inches of the tips..
Unlike many people I do not use perlite. Perlite is alkaline and not all plants like alkaline soil. Rather keep my plants in lower ph soil and use sand and/or fine akadama instead of perlite. Also it tends to be cheaper, so you can spend your money on better quaility soil. Also akadama soaks up fertilizer and water, stores it where a plant can get it, but doesn't keep the soil saturated where you would then get root rot. That is why many bonsai people use it.
Hi! Thank you for the tip! I haven't used akadama yet but now I'm very interested. How much do you usually add into your mix?
Perlite is a neutral ph. Where did you get that it was more alkaline?
Hello what soil do you use for spider plants, I have cactus succulent soil but would that be bad to use?
Hi! I made a video showing the soil that I like to use. You can find the link here. ua-cam.com/video/brnV7anyUHI/v-deo.html
So should you bother cutting the complete length of the brown tip to allow more energy for new growth or leave them?
I was wondering that myself???
I’m using distilled water and still getting brown tips.
Probably overwatering
Hi, sorry i noticed you had snipped the tips of your leaves of are we mento do that as well for a quick fix or will the tips turn green on their own
Hi! You can cut the brown off the tips. It won’t hurt the plant.
Don’t do it I clip my tips and the the brown grows back on it.
I have brown tips on my spider plant and it's never had anything but distilled water.
I have a very large spider plant. Call it a mother. Given to me by my neighbor. Its beautiful and large with tons of babies on it. However my stupid butt left it outside and it got frost bite ! 10% of it is black now! I'm so sad. What should I do. Cut the bad out or just let it grow out. Any help greatly appreciated
Hi! Sorry to hear that some of it turned black. The best thing to do is to cut off the effected leaves and move it into a warmer place. They are pretty harder plants and it should recover.
Fron Brasil 🇧🇷
Fluoride is added to city water.
How do you cut the existing brown rips off without harming the plant though?
scissors. works for me.
I watched a UA-camr about that, she suggested cutting the brown tips off at a angle.
Hey
I bought a spider plant 11 dats back
It kept it in direct sunlight and kept on watering daily, it's leaves turned brown n the ones in the bottom started falling.
After reading about this plant, i brought it inside my room n stopped watering it daily but still it's not healing .
I am really worried, i got it as a gift but but m not able to save it.
What should i do now?
@@ericajoy4506 thank you❤
I live in the country with a well that doesn't have fluoride or anything else and still have brown tips on my spider plant.
Hi! It could be fertilizer build up or another treatment in the water. I've found that only rain and bottle water is the safest way to keep the tips from browning. Also, if it dries out too much at any point the tips will brown too.
@@LetsTalkAboutPlants thank you
@@joeschmo1516 You're welcome!
I never use tap always bottled so that’s not the problem with mine please help
Hi! Are all the tips brown or only some of them? If you've been using bottled water and all the tips are then it could be that the plant is getting too dry in between waterings.
it has to be some thing else as i use water filtered thru a berkey water filter and its well water
Hi! If you're using filtered water and still have brown tips, it could be a fertilizer problem. What have you been using?
@@LetsTalkAboutPlants i was using a generic triple ten, now i,m using MIRARCLE GRO HOUSE plant food. the switch seems to be working, i also cut back on the amount of water i,m using, no longer using the flood and drain method now just watering when soil feels dry 1 inch below surface, fingers crossed it,s not some thing else
@@yoopermann7942 Your new way of watering and fertilize might do the trick. Keep me updated on your progress. You can dm me or share photos at @lets_talk_about_plants on Instagram.
I have natural well water with RO system and still have brown tips on my spider and dracena plants
I could be a couple things. Have you been using a lot of strong fertilizers on the plant over a period of time? It can build up in the soil and cause brown tips. Do you have a lot of perlite mixed in the soil?
Let's Talk About Plants haven't used fertilizers yet and I haven't added any more perlite than my soil mix already has🤔
@@blackstar8620 Interesting. The only suggestion that I would make is to change the soil and use a perlite free mix. Continue using non-tap water and only gentle organic fertilizer for about a month. Then check to see the new growth. It shouldn't get any brown tips as long as you don't let it dry out in between waters.
Thanks
@@blackstar8620 Best of luck and let me know how it goes!
Brown tips driving me crazy
It can also be from the sun. We have no chemicals in our tap water and mine still go brown now and then.
Misting the leaves to give humidity might help.
I've been using spring water! But I'm still getting brown tips!?! Should I stop using spring water and start using distilled water?
I use distilled water and never get brown tips !😁
Hi my spider plant is getting very large to large for me to really keep in the house any longer I don't really no what to do this is my first spider plant can I cut it back or?X
Just pull half the leaves off they always grow back anyway. Start from the outside and snap them off from the bottom I have done this to all of mine many times they are fine 🙂
Hi! If it's getting too big, you can always propagate by dividing. I'm planning to make a video soon.
Ah, I've been wondering why my baby spider plant has brown tips despite using rain water. The soil I used contains perlite. Should I change that? I've only just planted the babies and some are already growing roots. Many thanks in advance.
Hi! I just wanted to double-check, has it been watered regularly? Has it been fully drying out in between waterings? Usually, baby spider plants get brown tips from not enough or irregular watering.
@@LetsTalkAboutPlants yes, I water regularly and let it dry out between waterings. That's why I'm worried about them, and not very sure what else to do. I have not added any fertilizer since I planted them.
@@bunnybearme Since it's still a baby plant, try to keep the soil moist all the time. Don't let it dry out at all for the next month. It might not have a fully established root system to keep in enough water. Sometimes young plants take a while to establish a full root system. This means that they need more water than adult plants.
@@LetsTalkAboutPlants Roger that, and thank you so much! Your replies have been extremely helpful. 😊
@@LetsTalkAboutPlants I'm back with an update; it turns out that the leaves were burnt! It had nothing to do with the soil I used or watering.
The spider plant babies used to hang from my patio beam that has ample shade but gets a lot of morning sun (from 6-11am).
I got another healthy spider plant last week and put it next to my babies. They had the same leaf browning problems!
After moving them away from the area that gets a lot of morning sun, the leaves stopped turning brown and I'm so relieved!
That was a good learning experience. Even though the babies had lost a lot of leaves it's still thriving, and is now healthy and happy getting plenty of bright indirect sunlight. :)
My spider plant and a few leaves or as some people call legs that are completely yellow so how can I fix it and also when I water my plant 🌱 should I let it sit in it’s water for 10 minutes because spider plant drain like alarmist all the water
Sorry for my typos
No worries ^_^
Hi! How many leaves are turning yellow? It normal for a couple to turn every once in a while. As for watering, I wouldn't recommend letting it sit in water. It's better to water it heavily and the let it drain away.
Let's Talk About Plants 🌱 thank you only two has 💗
@@Alexis-hu2ws If there are only two yellow leaves, I wouldn't worry, it's normal.
I water my spider plant with rain water so I'm not sure why the tips turn brown. Any other ideas? TIA
Could be that the leaves are suffering from dryness. This plant likes a little humidity. Maybe misting will help.
I have Distilled
Can you use boiling water, after cooling a couple hours?
Hi! Unfortunately, boiling won't remove fluoride from water. It has to be filtered out.
Should I cut them off or should I just start to use fresh water?
Cutting them off won't hurt the plant. But if there's loads do it in stages, could annoy the plant
I use rain water and all my leaf tips are all brown
Is pumice will have the same effect as perlite?
Hi! You can use pumice in place of perlite. I've done this and had really good results.
@@LetsTalkAboutPlants Thank you so much 👍
@@kencals You're Welcome!
Mine was doing well until a week ago. I had it as a little plant and it was fine..it was on a shade on the porch and I brought it inside the beginning of November and just this past week I noticed brown tips. I am using the same water. Ould be the heat in the apartment causing it? Now that is winter where I live I only water once every Sunday.
I am not a professional and still in the learning process, but as I read you shouldn't be watering your spider plant every week during the winter because that will lead to overwatering. So if you are overwatering and the plant is placed inside your house it might have developed some root rot. To make sure it didn't rot from the bottom, take the plant out of its container and take a look at its roots, if they are soggy and can easily be taken apart with your fingers without any pressure, then it is probably root rot, but if your roots are fine, white and strong then maybe you can boost the plant with some natural fertilizer to see if it helps? Hope the plant survived though, if yes please share what was it and how you fixed it!
My spider plants keep snapping straight down the middle of the leaf... is that normal? It’s making me so sad lol
try to give it enough space to grow its leaves
Spider plants needs space 360° around the spider plant for it to be able to grow properly and without bending/breaking it's leaves! They really need a good amount of room/space to grow properly!!! Good luck & enjoy! 🌿🌱🌵🌻🌼🌷🪴
I have a spider plant. Using tap water only will it kill a spider plant.
Definitely! Only nature water for these plants!
there is no floride natural or otherwise in my tap water and I still get brown tips.
Same here pat
It might be your humidity levels? If your environment is too dry it'll suck the life out of the plant and that can result in brown tips. Misting your plant might help, but in my experiences you need a perfect environment to keep your Spider Plant from getting crispy tips.
@@raygonzales197 , thanks for the tip.... no pun intended.... I think you may be correct . 🌱
...or rain water or well water or spring water.
I hear smartwater is fluoride-free. Most others are not.
😊🇨🇦
Should i cut the brown tips?
Hi! You can cut the brown tips off. However, the cut might turn slightly brown over time
What about those of us who use well water?
Hi! Well water should be okay to use. 👌🏼
What about brown leaves from the sun 😩. My husband had one job 🤦🏽♀️😂. How long with it take to recover or grow out?
Hi! Oh no! 😆 It’s always a bummer when that happens. As long as it’s being watered, you should see it recover and grow new leaves over the next month. Unfortunately, the brown leaves won’t turn back to their original green again. They might even continue to die and fall off but the new growth will replace it.
@@LetsTalkAboutPlants thank you!
Amazing B You’re welcome! Happy Planting!
😂
Our tap water comes from a filtered well in the back yard. Is that water okay to use?
what about boiled water that's left to cool?
If you scoop a bucket of water out of the ocean and boil it all the way down, the only thing left in the pot is salt. If you boil tap water the chemicals, compounds, minerals and everything else in the water gets concentrated. Filtering is a far better option. Hope this helps
Use tap water conditioner for fish.
It works very well.
