Correct me if I’m wrong, but I would think the ratchet mechanism would be susceptible to a lot of road grime, rocks, etc. which might damage it over time being so low on the trailer. How have they held up for you?
Road grime for sure but I haven’t seen any issues with rocks or anything. I think for the most part they are blocked. Not saying it couldn’t happen but I haven’t seen it yet.
I’ve been pretty fortunate so far but I can see how cowards would do something like that. I’m not sure there’s much you could do, outside of maybe tacking your nut, to keep them safe if it came to it.
Okie Outdoor Adventures i was out at lake Konawa in Okla a couple weeks ago, its about 1-1/2 hour drive, when i got home i noticed my lock on the trailer tounge had been cut off and looked like they attempted to take my receiver hitch off, its one of the expensive B&W hitches so I’m guessing thats what they wanted, altho I’ve heard of boat trailers getting stolen so IDK but i try to keep everything under lock and key. So i drove that 1-1/2 hrs without a pin on the trailer tongue, this has taught me to double check my load before leaving the lake.
Sheesh! No kidding on double checking. Worst I’ve seen is trailer tires slashed at one of our “big fish” lakes. Glad you didn’t have any issues getting back home.
Okie Outdoor Adventures yeah you can trust anyone or anything now a days. I started carrying some binoculars in the boat and when im close to the boat ramp i will take a look in on the truck. I already carry a Glock 22 with me on the boat, have had too many encounters on the water. I waited almost 20yrs to get a new boat, i had a bad spinal injury that left my legs paralyzed until surgery and years of therapy to get back on the water which i got a new boat this past October, i don’t have the extra money with my income to replace equipment.
Okie Outdoor Adventures damm slashed tires? WTF is wrong with people? Are the vandals jealous of others so they want to destroy what is not theirs? My incident was at Lake Konawa in Oklahoma.
If you are looking at buying these things for your boat, DON'T!! I put these things on my brand new aluminum trailer to hold my boat, thinking that all f the "reviews" were good. After the VERY FIRST trip to the water, the next time out they became hard to release. I then took them off, sprayed them inside with corrosion X, lithium grease and even MAX WAX!! They made three trips to the water, after the third trip I had to cut the straps with my knife to release my boat from the trailer. I currently have two giant chunks of rusted together garbage to show for my money. DO NOT BUY, unless you like throwing your money away.

Been wanting to get these but heard they get stolen off the trailer at the lake.
