Don't you just love when you land on an unknown planet and a robot starts rapping at you causing you to turn into a giant space tree made from your own ego?
Anderson Paak is able to successfully occupy that space between rapping and singing. So many of these new school artists try to sit in that zone but can't sing so it doesn't click, it doesn't hit that sweet spot. Anderson Paak is one talented dude.
Wow... this album is going to add to my minuscule life so much right now. I’ve been hella lost, depressed, and lonely. These songs are bringing me mad joy right now... thanks lo.
Here's hoping you find your way, man. Just take it once step at a time, and you'll make it. FlyLo's last album came at a complicated moment in my life. Mourning a loss while looking ahead to plenty of big changes in the future. At the moment, I felt the timing of that release couldn't have been more perfect. It really helped me sort through what was on my mind. And I suppose it's hard not to put that amount of weight on this next project. But great art will always speak to you when you need it.
Flying Lotus and Shinichiro Watanabe’s creative kinship was cultivated while working on BLADE RUNNER: BLACK OUT 2020, the mutual respect led to them collaborating on this video. Watanabe had this to say about their connection - “Flying Lotus’ sound and Anderson Paak’s rap on this track are just incredible. Their work greatly inspired me to direct this music video for them with some of the finest anime talents in Japan. Flying Lotus is such an amazing talent, so it is a great honor to work with Flying Lotus again after our first collaboration on BLADE RUNNER: BLACK OUT 2022. One of the coolest videos ive ever seen. Shinichiro Watanabe and Flying Lotus pulled off a masterpiece here. Wish more artists were able to create on this level.
its kinda cool how both cultures seem to have a mutual respect. hip hops on the come up in japan and korea. and alot of black people seem to love anime haha. its only right that when they converge it becomes something wonderful.
“Your ego is your seed.” The death of the ego is the seed to a new life, but is the fire purifying or destroying? Video is amazing- a mix of Akira and Annihilation.
"Your Ego is your seed" The more times I watch & listen to it, the more I'm understanding. 1. Only one other part to add now that I listened to the full album: In Final Fantasy , a dark mage can cast Firaga. Any magic spell with aga in the end is the strongest of that series (or ija ending too) so Flamaga is the strongest flame spell.(Even one of the songs is FF4, a final fantasy 4). Important? Yes! To burn the ego potentially? To finally have the flames of his spirit freed? Flames of love? Not sure. But a whole slew of flames on this album. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but now putting your understanding of the ego quote, I think I’m amassing a better idea of what this album is about. Havent heard of toonami since the early 2000s.... when I was a teenager... when I would race home after school to watch dbz...before I had to pay bills.... before life took my life lol
While I listen to this on repeat I feel that I can't "happily" praise this work. While the beat is inviting and the colors are warm I find intense uneasiness when watching this and I think that's because of this song's theme of "ego death". The animation greatly portrays the ugliness that resides in myself and I'm sure all of us. As hard as it was to see the idea of an ego's physical manifestation, I found it harder to swallow the fact that this ugliness resides in me and if brought out, I couldn't begin to understand how to deal with its fruition just like the countless others shown at the end. It's a helplessness that I personally dread and instead of leaving me empty I'm overflowing with anxiety. So.... well... good job on making me feel these feelings... sick beat too.
This is a very big comment. The fear of our growth. When you get there, youll be more than able to live and prosper within its essence. It's those thoughts that you are going through that is an obvious part of your process. I mean seriously though, doesn't having a mind that depicts things unjustly, eradicated. A good thing? I just want to see and think clearly of what is.
Do you think the bird at the end represents his falcon or bird spirit though? cause they're never seen in the same frame visually, and it would kind of make sense, I'm not sure what the robot bloke symbolises though, maybe he just likes Paak's music
That quote (“Your ego is your seed”) next to Anderson Paak’s robot hits me on a Biblical level. As descendants of Adam and Eve, the root of all our sin is selfish pride. (Oh, and this song still slaps! I’m glad FlyLo, AP, and Thundercat took their time with it.)
I may be slow as this may have been obvious: The table says your ego is your seed and in the video it grows out of them into a twisted corrupted flower (written on the robot’s umbrella) killing them like a toxic manufactured false self- dope
[Verse 1: Anderson .Paak] Yes, lawd Someone hit me the other day for a rendezvous "Long time no see" was the time she used Bright eyes like the lights at the carnival Held convos, but never held accountable How's your Mama Duke? Serious Nujabes x Shing02 vibes from this track, so it's amazing that Watanabe directed the video for it. Adult Swim should commission a full series of FlyLo x Watanabe for the culture.
When the character's body started morphing, my first thought was "this reminds me of the Akira movie". Then, I learned that Hidekazu Ohara did key animations for Akira and this music video.

Ego starts in your heart before it wraps around your mind. Change your mindset before it’s too late is the message from this music at least to me
Just came here from toonami , liked the song and animation
Same bro
@Pason Jayne My thoughts exactly lol
Havent heard of toonami since the early 2000s.... when I was a teenager... when I would race home after school to watch dbz...before I had to pay bills.... before life took my life lol
Wait this was on Toonami last night??? Bet
Imagine Janelle Monae, Anderson.Paak, Thundercat, FlyLo and Robert Glasper on the same track. OO. LA. LA.
Wow! This blew my mind just imagining! A
Throw in Terrace Martin low key
Well Robert Glasper and Thundercat are on same track on Flamagra.
Thundercat, FlyLo, Solange
@@jhardymusic8614 Yo, and Kamasi Washington, and Ambrose Akinmusire or Christian Scott.
Flying lotus, Anderson paak, watanabe AND manosnobu hiraoka? all working on the same project? how in the world have I not seen this before?
Bro you cant just drop this outta nowhere like this my heart aint ready
looking for small dads “my heart don’t stand a chance”
This could easily be a love death and robots episode
I was thinking the exact same thing
Exactly right my friend
Love it Lotus!
1:22 Thundercat was here!
Love Watanabe! He's my fav anime director and he is partly the reason I have a very diverse music taste
Flylo makes music to help me fight my depression. Thank you
Truly, hats off to the animators who worked on this. Every frame is it's own little masterpiece, and together they flow like warm butter.
This is probably the most on point comment I've read about this video. Thank you.
The anxiety will fade when you integrate. And also, good job, you got it.
Been trying to understand what this video was about. You summed it up pretty good.
Do you think the bird at the end represents his falcon or bird spirit though? cause they're never seen in the same frame visually, and it would kind of make sense, I'm not sure what the robot bloke symbolises though, maybe he just likes Paak's music
Just saw this on Toonami, lovin that beat!
sorry to bother but would you mind hearing out my music if you have some time? i put a lot of work into it
@@IshanII not a good way to promote
@@IshanII Sure
Yes!!! It combines my love of music and anime all in one.
The guy who was behind cowboy bebops movie and samurai champloo was the director for the video
This absolutely SLAPS
Paak, FlyLo AND Watanabe - san? Be still my heart
nah, when anderson said yes lawd, i knew it was over with..
I may be slow as this may have been obvious: The table says your ego is your seed and in the video it grows out of them into a twisted corrupted flower (written on the robot’s umbrella) killing them like a toxic manufactured false self- dope
Oru-Ntui Nkiri beautiful
Yea maybe he should've danced with him
Shinchiro watanabe + Flying lotus + Anderson Paak = WTF?! Oh shiiiiiiet 🔥🔥
Wait til you figure out this song originally had Mac Miller on the first verse.
Dope tune , definitely got that 90’s anime feel Like spawn , Venom , aeon flux
Me: *feeling sharp pain in eye*
Video: watch this man's eye grow into a tree
Me:...
lmao.
Im confused too.
0:38 that beat is just perfect and the way paak jumps on it ..🔥🔥🔥
Wish Nujabes could have been here to work on this too R.I.P 😢
Me too 😥. But he's watching in the sky
RnB embracing electric guitar/bass (probably thanks to Prince) was probably the best addition to a genre that ever happened
Leave it to Flying Lotus to remind you what real music feels like.
[Verse 1: Anderson .Paak]
Yes, lawd
Someone hit me the other day for a rendezvous
"Long time no see" was the time she used
Bright eyes like the lights at the carnival
Held convos, but never held accountable
How's your Mama Duke? How ya papa doin'?
Oh, me? I been freer than the sample food
But like a sample loop, around and 'round I move
Until it's clear, then I'm back to baggin' bags of loot
Spent years tryna steer both hands on you
'Til I finally understood that I was spinnin' my hoop
Rather spinnin' my wheels, gettin' up in my years
But still I feel like a kid when I'm fuckin' with you
Young nigga gotta live, that's the motto they use
But all them niggas still live in they mama's backroom
So I'm back in my stu', lookin' up at the stars
When they reminisce over you, my God
[Chorus]
That's when I caught light of myself (My God)
Gotta be somethin' more that I can't tell
Breakin' you down to size
There's gotta be more to life than myself
That's when I caught light of myself
Gotta be somethin' more that I can't tell
Breakin' you down to size
There's gotta be more to life than myself
That's when I caught light of myself
Gotta be somethin' more that I can't tell
Breakin' you down to size
There's gotta be more to life than myself
That's when I caught light of myself
Gotta be somethin' more that I can't tell
Breakin' you down to size
There's gotta be more to life than myself❤❤❤
how's your mama do? Not marmaduke smh
@@greatpower6063 it doesn't even say marmaduke-_- yeah I understand what you possibly hear but fyi, I saw these lyrics on genius.com as is. Maybe it says "mama duke" maybe it says "mama do", but if you understand the msg, theres no need for correction....smh.
"When they reminisce over you, my God." Pete Rock CL Smooth - T.R.O.Y.
@@weirdough12 Mama Duke is like a hood mother figure or community mother figure also said as Ma'Dukes. Not Marmaduke the dog smh lol silly human. There is one part though that i hear differently, always thought it said "Thats when I come out of myself" which is kinda shown in the video with the guy literally coming out of himself but it's hard to hear exactly what it is but I do hear "thats when I caught light of myself". Thanks for posting the lyrics, cool to read through.
Watanabe will forever be my favorite director. Cowboy bebop, samurai champloo and now this
My to
Serious Nujabes x Shing02 vibes from this track, so it's amazing that Watanabe directed the video for it. Adult Swim should commission a full series of FlyLo x Watanabe for the culture.
davidwave4 they should totally reboot Afro Samurai with this combo
Watanabe and Flylo are working on a Blade Runner series for Adult Swim right now!
nujabes? nah...
@@blue3895 wait what ? Seriously ? Never heard of that. Have the news source ?

That some new feeling. This dude got mad passion for his work.
Afro Anime! This is is pure classic music and will will hold weight decades from now.
When the character's body started morphing, my first thought was "this reminds me of the Akira movie". Then, I learned that Hidekazu Ohara did key animations for Akira and this music video.
This gives me major Toonami vibes. I'm diggin it
When the beat drops at 0:38 My goodness. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FlyLo always works with such amazing artists and this is no exception .
Watanabe and Paak were the perfect choices for this .
i remember hearing fly lo on adult swim when i first saw cowboy bebop. good times. i didn't even smoke then.
Kind of amazing to see the full circle he made.
@@Raphie009 Exactly. Watanabe should for sure get fly lo on one his projects.
i could watch n listen to this all day
That Pete Rock and CL Smooth line made me reminisce, my god ....
I woke up out of bed for this
Same, gave me the life needed
I keep coming back to watch this.
I'm not even high and this shit is still hypnotizing.
Andre 3000 would be perfect with this song .
@Vyvyan Mar I'm already picturing it...................Perfect 1,000,000,000,000/10
OutKast & Big K.R.I.T
No, Mac Miller would. He was actually on the first verse in this song and there's still that version floating around the Internet
Love this track. I was just thinking of Nujabes when i heard this. RIP Nujabes.

This album already a classic
Beautiful music. Beautiful visuals, beautiful singing, directing, just a beautiful collab all around. thank you so much
kingofwaffles13 I 100% agree.
This to me, represents being in an isolated place, emotionally or mentally, and realizing from the isolation and associated emotions an epiphany (an epiphany which is pretty clearly sung)
I literally switched to Toonami just in time to catch this
