I used to play BoF3 as a child, too, but, uh... I never got past McNeil's mansion... I never found that guy's wallet. It's still one of my favorite games to this day, despite it being the polar opposite of the kind of games I like playing. It doesn't help that I have a *_slight_* completionist streak with single player games that doesn't exactly mesh well with RPGs, as you can probably imagine.
Back in the day, I had to rent this game to play it. I rented it over and over again. One year, my Mom bought me this game for Christmas and wrapped behind the couch while I was playing the rented version.
For me it's one of the greatest games ever. I remember being stuck in one dungeon for a week. What a game it was. I also loved FFVII, Metal Gear Solid and Tekken 3
Thank you for this! Breath of Fire III is one of my alltime favourite games (and series). The story, setting, music, spritework, and a good portion of nostalgia (I played this when I was between 11 and 13 something)! I *_love_* this game!
Hands down greatest game of all time for me. And it is not even close (Symphony of the Night and Dark Souls are tied for second). It had everything, scope, great combat and story, pure nostalgia factor, amazing music and gameplay. I could go on and on but my god what an amazing game that was so well made as well. To think it was created by Capcom is the most insane part.
Why is the series creator of Capcom insane? Capcom has pretty descent IP - MegaMan, and Street Fighter to name a couple. They're a household name in game development.
@@wjb4578 Because they aren't known as prolific RPG makers of games. MegaMan and Street Fighter are iconic but they aren't RPG games. Capcom was never a Squaresoft type which makes this RPG being one of my most played surprising because Capcom isn't known for RPGs.
There are so few games in which you become so attached to the characters. The storyline is up there with FF7 focusing more on the purpose of existence and the relationship between us and god. It is a marvelous game and will always have a special place in my heart.
I play this, Chrono Trigger, all the ps1 Final Fantasies, ff6, Earthbound, and BoF 2 and 4 annually. This is probably the most underrated RPG as it is perfect. EDIT: Also Star Ocean 2
I played breath of fire 3 when I was 11. At 1:11:11 is tragic I really sad when I met this scene first time. But that make me feel we cannot judge anything just seen some part. Because everything have two side! Now I still play sometime on mobile emulator. Very nostalgia :)
yeah that scene broke my heart. I had to stop playing. I felt excited at first that I was taking on a scary monster, but after knowing it was just a mother, I felt terrible. I must have not understood it as a kid because I thought I killed the babies. they were already dead. And I also must have had a crazy imagination because I remember seeing the Nue with a much more painful/scared face after it dies while covering the cave.
+Adam Bilyea Well, if you owned the official game, then it would be ok if you downloaded this game online in .bin format from ROM sites. Afterwards, you can just download ePSXe (costs a few bucks on the playstore) for android and emulate on the phone. Works great for me. Playing various PS 1 RPG titles on my android with no hiccups. Do note, you also need a BIOS file for the emulator to work.
yes indeed. i have a psp set up for ps1 games mainly rpgs and my favs from back in the day. I use a program that takes the bin and compresses the file where the psp will pick it up and read from the mem stick. I can set up custom icons , intro loading screen, psp preview music, ect. really neat. But nothing beats having the original game in your collection.
I played this as a child, and could not for the life of me remember the name of this game. I've played BoF games through and through and this one was always just out of reach. I cannot tell you how much I've wanted to revisit this game.
Here is a secret that isn't even in any FAQS or guides. if you make it to the cave at level 3, you can hurt the BAT without killing it. The hurt bat will start casting the GLOOM spell, that turns you undead so you can't heal. This spell works on some annoying bosses that heal themselves. The next time you can get this spell is over half way through the game.
Wow! Crazy how things like that are buried in this game. To add something useful to your find: apparently you have to do exactly 5 damage to a bat to trigger it.
As a child, Ryu sports a beige and dark green tunic jumper shorts with a white undershirt with large, white and brown boots. As an adult he wears a blue gray and red breastplate under a white long vest, with a large baggy olive green pants and broots. Both in his childhood and adolescene, he wears red shoulder guards and the orange scarf that they wear is different which the color of his scarf in his childhood years is red orange as his adolescene years' scarf is yellow orange. His hair is always seen blue and spiky, and his eyes match that color.
i still remember when i was a little kid playing this on ps1 not knowing what i was doing but the wood chucking scene stuck with me until today. i can advise people to get a psp since BoF3 is buyable for that system too. its great to have on the go
dude this game was soooooooooooo good! i remember even after i beat the game i had to come back to see all the dragons and the special moves....i still have the ps1 disc for this and breath of fire 4!

I once bought a used psp off Amazon for a transfer project long story short the psp had iso games on there and this was one of em . if you love breath of fire 3 and 4 be sure to pick up sega shining force
I remember this game, I remember I liked Teepo about as much as a skin rash!!! (maybe a little less)..This video pretty much shows me, yup.... I still like him about that well.
no, you'd have to play the game to get it. Its engaging, one of the mechanics that help is the pilfering effect. Also, these games were meant to be played to explore, the encounters gives you time to think about the world as you move through it. Its subtle, and something a lot of games with constant random encounters miss, the experience. Ofc, it might get tedious just watching it.
I love this game but i never realized how few sound effects there are, its a pretty quiet game outside of the music, not even any footstep sounds, weird.
I change the out come for the battle with horse brother saving the nina I took 2 week just leveling till 40 before i trigger the horse brother art and I don't know heal can work on nina I just fight till nina woken up how stupid I am (=_=)
bof 2 is the greatest in this saga. and then there is tihs master piece. bof 3. i love these games :D wish they would make a true succescor in the style of bof 2 and 3.

I played Breath of Fire 3, and Final Fantasy 7 simultaneously back in the day. They both hold a very special place in my heart.
Yes I play bof3 and ff7 all of time
Bof1 does for me
I watched my mom ply em growing up. Same w dragon quest

2017 and still thinking and watching videos on this game. Man how I miss the days of playing BOF3 all day long. One of my all time favs! Wow.

it is a tradition for me to play BoF 3 through once a year.. I just love this Game.
my all-time favorite part is Contest of Champions! =D
+SuperLumipallo lol awesome tradition. I need to start this. I've beaten the game about 4 times. Fucking love it
I absolutely love this game, from the first time I played it many years ago and even now it's still a great game with a spectacular storyline
I still have my original copy. This is an excellent game and has a THUMPING soundtrack!

I used to watch my dad play this game along with tales of destiny. wow that was such a long time ago. cant believe i still remember the bg music
That is because it is hard not to remember beautiful music.
one of the best rpgs
+mazen42007 agreed
defiantly. I never expected it to still be the among the best 20 years later.
i don't disagree with you it looks very good enough that imma get it but everybody says the same thing about every other game on the ps1 rpg or not
This and Xenogears.
The best of the best JRPG of all.
I’ve always felt like the Breath of Fire series could easily go toe-to-toe with the Final Fantasy series.
i thought it was better i hated final fantasy block people
Definitely not the first breath of fire game. That one sucks lol. Breath of fire 2 and this one look real good tho.
There are so few games in which you become so attached to the characters. The storyline is up there with FF7 focusing more on the purpose of existence and the relationship between us and god. It is a marvelous game and will always have a special place in my heart.
Breath of fire and Suikoden are still to this day one of the best games I have played, still have the Original CD's.
Favorite RPG on the PSX played by my favorite longplayer.

Take a hint sometime and play "The Legend Of Dragoon" or "Guardian's Crusade" for the PS1, it might do your hard headed ass some good.
JRPGs don't have this type of art anymore, it's timeless.
First played this when I was six, now I'm twelve turning thirteen and still in love with this game.
With the help of my brother back then when I was small that is.
pure nostalgia here
