Should you BUY a MAZDASPEED 3 in 2024?

- There's many great vehicle options in 2023 to pick from, is the MazdaSpeed 3 a contender to buy in 2023? It was an incredible hot hatch of its time, and overall and underrated platform. I always ask myself if I should buy a MazdaSpeed 3 whenever I don't have one, but now that's its 2023 it's always a tough choice.

Love the Gen 1 hatch styling. Still looks great nearly 20 years later.
Yes sir 😮💨
Timeless style
Agreed, it’s so perfect (for a hot hatch)
Facts bro. The original BK body in general is such a sexy design especially compared to what the competition was at the time (both regular 3's and Speed3's.
Agree i prefer the 1st gen over the 2nd just for the look always love the first gen mazda 3/speed 3 look
Not really content related, but your energy/delivery in this video was awesome! Entertaining front to back
Thought i'd have more fun, thanks for the feedback! 🤘
good to see the content is back, small criticism is the audio sibilance
Love this video i have a 2011 and now i can drive after a year amd a half of on and off working on it glad to be back def like gen 1 lil more due to physical appearance but i like my gen 2
I bought my 2013 speed3 for 12k USD and it had 80k miles on it. Best car I have ever owned. I did have to fix somethings here and there but overall an amazing car to modify and tune. And i believe that the 2008.5 (the mid year refresh) didn't have to many VVT faults. That's when they changed the VVT I believe.
VVT was officially fixed and dealt with in 2012 & 2013, officially making those the best two years to buy!
Its pretty interesting, i just realized your the same age as me and got Mazda 3 I think a year before I got mine. Its seems like youve accomplished so much in those 6 years of owning your Mazda 3.
I got a 2010 2nd gen speed 3, it never fails to excite me, every new modification, every new tune, this thing is just great never had any issues either I’ve had it for a little over a year and I’ve put about 10k miles on it
Nice!
Been enjoying this years content! Very nice job
Thanks boss! ✌🏻
I have an 08 Gen 1. The power, styling, handling is as good as current cars today. Still a great driving car. I have a 2019 STI and yes it is a great car, the Speed has that raw driving experience that only car lovers know.
I have bolt ons and a tune had to repair/repair but thats a given for a car thats approaching 20yrs old.
Well Nice video to say at least. I got mine a year ago - September 2022. It was and it still is my first car. It is an 2009 Mazdaspeed3 BK (USDM obviously) but I drive mine here, in Europe. 34K White GT trim with that sweet alcantara interior. I got it with 68818 miles on the clock. Im the 3rd owner. First in my country. Since when I got it - I didn't have a chance to drive it since it had to be repaired (front suspension, oilpan and all the bottom of the engine etc.) I didn't have the money and time to fix it. Now it sits in my garage and maybe in a month or so - everything will be done ( I have all the parts and gear ready ) I hope xx. Keep up with the videos man. Love !
Wish we had the Alcantara here in Canada :(
All you said are definitely true Colton, I love your magwheels
✌🏻
Just recently purchased the 2013 mazdaspeed 3 super clean one 100k miles on it I had never heard of this car before but I absolutely love it super fun to drive
Great video, has all the information I was too lazy to research myself😂
😂
Just picked up a 2nd gen speed, and I absolutely love it!!
Nice buy!
If I had to replace my 08 Mazda 3, for sure I would do a speed!! Great video, great info!! 👍
Thanks Reuben!
I love These videos! More Mps Content pls
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Still have my full bolt on '12 Speed, original owner, garaged since day 1, and it's still a killer sport compact that is nearly as fast as the stuff being built now (Elantra N, CTR/Type S). The platform was WAY ahead of its time, redefined its genre, and was the benchmark to beat for everything that came after.
Love the dedication!
I bet it’s amazing! Tbh I’d still run an Elantra/Veloster N any day in a speed3
I bought a 2012 speed3 with 120k miles and the thing was clapped. Blown head gasket, bent exhaust valves, and the power steering pump ended up going out my 2nd day of having it. Been in the shop for almost 2 months now and I've been dying to have it back. It's definitely smart to get a diagnostic before buying from a private seller or dealer. Hope to have her back soon, thanks for uploading this vid
That's a rough one
That's a monster, Col! ❤
Got an ‘09 about 3 years ago in decent shape with upgraded cold air intake. Changed the motor mounts, spark plugs and coil packs and it’s been running great. Love my Mazdaspeed 3.
W
I just bought a gen 2 2013 speed like 2 months ago😂 totally worth it, currently working on upgrades 😎
Have fun!
The Gen 1 is love!!! I have one true red! March 2009 to now! I m in love with this car! 😀😀😀🇬🇷
Nice!
just bought one a few months ago absolutely love the thing
Sweeeeet
I picked up a 12' with 81k miles on it a few months ago and I don't regret it at all. Always excites me when I drive it and its my daily!!! Will keep this thing forever if it means I need to change out a few engines and transmissions!
Nice, sounds like a treat!
My 1st gen MS3 has 240k mi and the only my A/C broke. Super fun and reliable
I have a 2011 Techpackage for 3 years it’s been my daily with full bolts on never have problems with it thank God!
You got a gooder!
I cant imagine life without my speed 3. Gonna hit 120k soon. I did the VVT and timing at 90k just to be safe. Other than that it has been completely reliable. Got an EGR delete, catch can, and vented 2nd gen valve cover. It's the best thing for your intakes valves and crank case pressures. Damond banjo bolt for the turbo oil feed is highly recommended before you blow your seals. Most important...check your fucking oil :P
😂✌
Bought my 2007 MPS in Cosmic Blue a month ago. Not a chance there is another car for that price which is as fun and beautiful.
Here in Colombia the "2010" model is really the 2009 of the rest of the world, recently got one that's pretty roughed up and I've found your channel while looking how to switch the head lights and oh man.. I was not planning into changing to many things but I think I'll keep this car for a while hahahaha
Haha
Have a 2023 Mazda 3 Turbo PP hatch, I know it doesn't have the torque steer but it's still fun as hell. The 320 ft lb of torque always put a smile on my face.
Yes they are real fun to drive!
Last thing take the door bumpers on the center of the door. That cleans the body up so so much.
True!
With these cars it’s a roller coaster 😂 sometimes it may be good and sometimes it may be bad but it never fails to put a smile on my face 😂
😂
got my gen 1 speed about a year+ ago and man its a hell of a car, has more than enough power to have fun but also drives great as just a general daily car as long as it isnt abused lol, I got mine bone stock with some what decent miles on it and from what i gathered it was owned by someone who looked after the car well and never beat on it so I got lucky for sure on mine but man I love this car for sure, one of my best buys 100%
Nice!
How much, looking. To buy one
I got one completely stock back in 2021 at 20k miles. 35k miles later no issues whatsoever and lots of fun had
Nice!
I’ve had my 2nd gen for a little over a year now and it has a handful of mods making just under 350 wheel horse power and it’s one hell of a daily summer driver being Canadian I love the car
Wicked!
I currently have an 06 Mazda 3 but looking to buy an 08 Mazda speed3 in 2024! I've always loved Mazdas and I think the 1st gen looks the best
i have a 1st gen 203,000 on it stage 3 and its mint front to back runs beautifully and she screams like she was still brand new it is one of my favorite cars i have owned yet a lot of fun, fast and extremely reliable car
She old but goin' 🔥
@ColtonRichter I was impressed when I first got it went through the whole car the engine is very clean inside and out I do believe the motor was rebuilt at one point it’s too clean for 200,000 miles
2010 Mazdaspeed 3 tech package.. I don’t have heated seats, no manual headlight adjustments in the cabin, the gen 2 stereo/head unit is ass (switched mine out to an android unit), does have the hose system with the spare tire mounted Subwoofer from factory, need the vvti don’t so fast tbh but in terms of tuning really blows cuz you have to get a HPFP before doing anything in terms of power related items or airflow so no Intake or exhaust without the hpfp internals
you can still get a tune, I'm tuned with an intake from freektune. 18.5 psi. stock hpfp
I got a mazda 3 first gen 2.3 98k miles for 4700$ few months back just paint damage i need to fix , been thinking about saving to get a speed or just upgrade the 3 suspension and aesthetics to make it for more of a mountain runner kinda build. i enjoy your channel dude from California Bay Area
Speed comes factory as a mountain runner 😉
I’d highly recommend getting a mazdaspeed3 bro it is a hugeeee difference
How can you not love this beast 😈
Estoy por comprarme uno del 2007 en rojo pero tiene título de “salvage” con pocos kilómetros, me lo recomiendas ?
Had a 2012 ms3 full bolt on and tuned but I got super bored of the fwd and got an evo x 😊 best decision ever
W
@7:45 Cant stress this enough to anyone getting into Mazda's. AVIOD any rusted Mazda, its spreads quick and into places you dont want to fix it. Do a deep inspection of the rear area. Wheel wells, runners, and subframe.
If the fendies rusty, the underneath is even rustier = not fun to work on
Bought a gen1 3 months ago. Love this car! Motor is getting pulled shortly for a built long block.
Nice!
Are you gonna get the 2.3 rebuilt or a 2.5?
Awesome awesome awesome car, smoked it with my 2006 E87 130i 6mt the other day on the highway😂
My very 1st car was a gen1 mps and all I can say is I'd buy it again. What a car, looks and sits well and the best performance without breaking the bank.
Facts ✌🏻
Love my 2013 2nd Gen ALL Bone Stock mazdaspeed3 in Velocity Red Mica 2nd owner bought over 10 years ago as of 10/24/23 85K on the clock very fun car to drive...
Nice!
I love my mazdaspeed 3 but I love my r34 to and love my v11 daily Subaru but definitely love the speed so fun to drive bit crazy in the wet but.
My man's got a GARAGE
I have the same color in the gen1 here in the US. GT Tech package, thought that meant highest trim and never knew there were heated seats for the gen1 out there 😂
I think the heated seats only came in the leather variant of the seat (if i'm correct), also depended on the year as well since 2008.5 and 09 had a few extras
@ColtonRichter I have to double check my Vin but unfortunately think I was before the .5 updates. Cool to know about the seats! I have the like half leather half cloth ones so I don't think it would have integrated well.
I just sold mine. The I loved it and miss it already. The only problem was the 2nd gear synchros are notorious for going out.
Gotta' love a trans swap
I want one so bad, unfortunately couldn’t find a stock one in east tennessee in a short time so I had to get a regular gen 2 mazda 3 😭 Might get that VT Supercharger soon lol
Supercharger is W
I bought one in college with 60k miles unmodified, 6 years later its got 125k and its been totally reliable. To be fair i haven't modified it at all, but i did the VVT and that's about it. It's been fantastic!
Nice!
Had my 2012 for about 5 years!
Nice!
I purchased a 2006 mazdaspeed 6 about a year ago. Bone stock and well maintained. They're a lot like these only we have way more options to break stuff. Cars been very reliable and yes these are cheap to maintain.
😂
I own a 2013 Gen2 Speed & a 2018 Mazda3. Would love to own a Gen1 Speed as my third Mazda3.
Nice combo!
I got an 07 with 98k miles. Intake, hpfp, tune, muffler and resonator delete. It's a blast.
Low mileage!
@ColtonRichter I'm stoked on it. It was a copart car, so it was a restored title, but it's alive, and I love it.
Love my speed...she's getting old and her clear coat is starting to peel but still a blast
Damn clearcoat peel on a 2nd gen? Crazy
@@ColtonRichter ikr and with 180k on the body..who would've thought
Saw your exact car on marketplace
Tis listed 😉
I find this so funny man. So I got my first Mazda3 in 2018, and I remember looking it up on youtube and seeing your old videos pop up like crazy. Here I am about 6 years later, I'm looking at buying a Speed3, and I'm still finding your newer vids on here! Relevant as always 😂 once a Mazda guy always a Mazda guy!
Cheers ✌🏻
2023? I drove mine home November 9 2006! Still a beast!
Wow!
There's just something beautiful about the mazda hatchbacks' styling
Most definitely
this WAS the hot hatch in the states back then
I got a white 08.5 with 71k miles for 13k in March, I feel like I spent way to much but it was so clean and that low mileage with the alcantara & leather seats I just couldn’t pass it up.
Love that spec!
Good deal right there
I paid just under $9k in 2020 for my ‘09 but it had 129k miles. You got a good deal especially with the car market today.
I’ve had my gen 2 for over a year and I am happy and have not dealt with anything bad I’m assuming it was babyd by the first owner I’m the second and I’m meticulous with maintenance.
Nice!
I have a 2012 Speed3 and bought it in 2014. I'd still buy it again in 2024. I think I'd die inside if something happened to it. Best compact sports car ever.
Nice!
I love mine I do want a v8 tho Camaro is probably going to be my next car but been loving my speed after owning it for the past 6 years it’s been great and I still have trouble I’ll post it for sale and always take it down lol
😂 It's a love hate relationship
I drove the 6th gen ss. It's damn fast, sounds great, looks good. But the speed is just as fun. If not more fun.
I just bought 1 month ago, a 2008.5 Speed 3 GT in Cosmic Blue with 315k KM on it, for $6,000 CAD. Been reliable so far, great power, addictive highway pulls, never makes any weird noises except for a bad passenger motor mount. I love it, won’t sell it even with a bad motor because interior is mint and has 0.00 rust. Mazda really did something special
Holy hell that's a high mileage boy
Cosmic Blue Mica is the color in the video. That's the color of the 07 through 2008.5. The 2008.5 plus has the newer gray color. Can't remember what it's called. I currently own three mazdaspeed3 in cosmic blue mica. All are 2008, not 2008.5. I've owned my 1st of those three for 13 years (over 200k miles, original motor, original turbo, original timing components including the vtc gear). I also had a black 07, which I sold. I absolutely love these cars. 1st gen is my preference.
How is it in the winter? Iam in the gta and thinking of buying one for day to for work
It's good man, just needs enough time in between commute to warm up properly!
I have a 2013 2nd gen
I'm glad there's still love for this car. I'm the original owner of a 2008.5, Crystal White, and just put a brand new OEM motor. All stock.
Beauty color!
@@musoui 157K
@@musoui My mechanic just replaced his Speed6's engine at 200K.
How much for the new motor? Also where'd you source it from?
@@marcov9808 Jim Ellis Mazda, $5500 before tax and freight.
I just bought an 07 with 230k miles on it bone stock runs an drives really good what should I be worried about as this is my first speed 3 an turbo car
Turbo and compression
Wow look at all these quirks and features
no features just fast boiii
honestly ive said before and ill say it again, the first gens look gangster asf🔥
I sold mine been wanting to get another one. Hard to find In my area
Very rare!
Gen 2 wheels look amazing on there..
Should've been from factory!
@@ColtonRichter I'm a fan of the stock wheels on the Gen 1... but the Gen 2 wheels do look good also...
i found an 08 speed3 in mint condition at about 198k kms for 9k cad, comes certified, considering selling my 05 g35x for it
Keep the G 🗣
Just bought a 2008 1.6l mazda 3 for 420€. Was going to be a donor for my same red color 2.0l. Found it to be too good to be a donor car so it’s my brothers first car now.
Nice buy!
That's my car (but in better shape on the outside). A Nissan Rogue tried to mate with me, and it was totalled by insurance, but I kept it as a salvage and had it fixed for about $6,300. That's how much I love the 2007 Mazdaspeed 3.
Sheeeeesh
This car won Car & Driver's best hot hatch a couple years in a row during it's glory. Can't believe you were able to walk out of dealerships with brand new gen1's in 2009 for ~$26-27k OTD with TTL on a GT without nav. So much car for the $$ even in todays standards let alone 15 years ago.
It was sure a lot of car back in the day
Bluetooth on second gen? Where?! I don't see that on my 2010
I own a 2nd gen an absolutly love it. If you find the right deal dont hesitate in buying!
🙌🏻
Just bought one in the US for 3,700, full exhaust, rims, 110k on the motor
Not bad!
Drove one for 14 years. I left the engine stock and upgraded the suspension. I had to get rid of it because of dad stuff. None the less it had just under 250k miles on it. The only thing I had to fix was the serpentine belt. Im buying another one soon, if i can find one thats unmodified. Nobody ever talks about the clutch or what they did to stiffen the car. Honestly, go sit in any other car and push in the clutch then hop in the mazda and tell me its not an easier push
Wow 14 years!
My clutch is aftermarket, and is heavier than my buddies stick speed clutch
Went from a fully built CST6 turbo mazdaspeed 3 to a Tesla Model 3 Performance. Both great cars but model 3 is my favorite car.
😞
I miss my 2011 mazdaspeed 3 best car I’ve owned so far
🤘
I just bought a 2010 speed last week, already love the thing to death😂
W!
Имею свою красавицу с 2006 года. Сейчас подвеска Eibach- Bilstein, кованый мотор с турбиной g25-550. Нажимаю на педаль и улыбаюсь каждый раз!😊
Nice!
I bought a mazdaspeed bk 2 weeks ago and it feels like a Monster. 400hp and about 600nm of Torque. 5 years ago i sold mine and i regret it... and now i won't sell it for nothing ... best car ever !
Crazy!
I personally love the Mazda 3/Speed3 interior. To me thy have better quality then other economy cars from the era.
This is true
@@ColtonRichter yessir. Also man thanks for always responding to my comments. It means a lot and I feel kinda bad cause I'm behind on your content.
Just bought a 09 Mazdaspeed3 with 140k miles as my first car !
Nice!
Uggghhhh i want a 1st gen so bad lol. I got a 2.0 sedan and its a lot of fun for what it is. But mannn wish i wouldve waited and got a speed 3. But ah well needed a car right then and there and had to go with what i could afford at the time :/
All the time in the world brother
i’ve got a 2009 speed, beautiful car😌. I love lining up with someone, and they shit their pants when they hear the turbo😂
Haha
These cars are kinda of hit and miss if you take care of them it’ll be a blast if you buy from a private owner do a compression test if you buy a speed 6 or gen 1 speed make sure the underbody isn’t rusted currently swapping a new motor in my gen 2 and Colton I’m in Toronto Ontario my speed 3 has heated seats
This is very true!
Where did you get your motor
@@jamalstrupp2045 cw turbochargers has rebuilt and stage 1,2 blocks but I bought mine for a Jdm motor shop out here in ontario
Comparable to a Focus RS MK2 because of the LSD.
This car is insane value and fun
Well ST, but for sure ✌🏻
1st gen was grsat for straight line but 2nd gen was a animal in the corners, and reason its forgotten is because nator beat up on subbie vapors.
2nd gen was incredibly assisted it had no feel to the road compared to the 1st gen unfortunately
How are these used as a daily? I can’t find any for under 100k miles and I know turbo engines can be hit or miss at that high of a mileage
With small upgrades i dailied mine for 3 years before I had a job that was a bit further and got a gas saver and this is my weekend warrior now at 380 whp 400tq but a few mods and tunes and it’s a beast (obviously not amazing on gas lol)
@@Dossantos0909 any advice or things to look for when purchasing one? Especially if it’s close or above the 100k mile range
Lots of great buyers guides on forums. Great cars to daily, just make sure the mantenance is there!
@@Mang0jo like Colton said VVT right off the bat, check the oil when you go, listen for the suspension as you drive and you can also feel it I got upgraded control arms and end links recently, and ID recommend doing a service valve cleaning to get the carb build up cleaned and a fuel injector cleaning service,
@@Mang0jo just save a little extra and just expect to fix something after you buy it, but once you make sure it’s maintained and solid you’re good bro these cars are amazing and you’ll beat a lot of cars on the street lol
