Can you please make a video about all people who...work in the church? Like differences between deacons, readers, priests, choir and the meaning of their clothes and so on

I'd love to see that, plus also cover why the majority of liturgy is singing and chanting. I'm an orthodoxy inquirer and have a lot of questions too.

Patriarch- Chief Bishops of the Orthodox Communion
Autochephalous Archbishop- A Patriarch who is not a Patriarch
Archbishop/Metropolitan- a Bishop honored above others, also the head of an eclesiastical province (smallest collection of dioceses)
Diocesan Bishop- Your average Bishop, rules a diocese
Coadjutor Bishop- helps the diocesan Bishop and gets to succeed him
Auxiliar Bishop- helps the diocesan Bishop and... just that, actually
Titular Bishop- has a diocese but not really
Protosyngellos- Either the most senior priest or the chancellor of the Bishop
Archpriest- For the greeks a priest so good he received his title to show how cool he is. Slavs differentiate between archpriests, mittered archpriests and protopresybter, they increase in importance in this order
Your average parish priest- Needless to explain
A priest that helps him- do you guys have that? Idk
Deacons- help the Bishops and presbyters. If attached to a Bishop they are an archdeacon, if attached to a important church a protodeacon. If they are monks, hierodeacon
Subdeacon- like a deacon but inferior
Reader- needless to say what they do (pre-nikonian russian church had a lesser level of readers just for the psalms, the psalomshchik)
Cantor- chants responses and hymns, their role in some traditions is replaced by choirs
Acolyte- extinct minor order that helped in the liturgy, their duties are now fufilled by readers, subdeacons and unordained men and boys
Exorcists- extinct minor order, their main duty was to instruct catechumens
Doorkeeper- extinct minor order, their function was to open and close Church doors, guard the church building and make sure no unbaptized participated in the Liturgy of the Faithful
Deaconess- semi-extinct minor order, their function was to do things that would be improper for a clergyman to do with a woman. They assisted in baptism and in many rites in which a woman was receiving a blessing
Abbots- needless to explain (also, some are called hegumen instead of abbots)
Archmandrite- A monk that received the highest honor he can get as a monk
Hegumen- In slavic traditions the level of honor between Archmandrite and hieromonk
      Hieromonk- a priest-monk
      Average monk- needless to explain

Your videos are a blessing as always. My catechumen classes begin in three weeks, and it’s so hard to be patient! Never before have I been so eager to learn and start living a godly life.
God bless you and your work!

Patron saint of my sinful self, Saint Petka was said to be angel equal. Her love, her sacrifice, her purity and peace... just thinking about her makes me cry for joy. I am blessed to have her as my patron Saint. Once a Saint passes away their work only just begins as they continue to manifest Lord's miracles even after death. I humbly recommend the book "Petkana" to all who may be interested. Glory to God. Saint Petka prays for us all.

Bojan, I've always been curious how these subtleties are displayed, as in iconography. For example, do the different types of saints have different halos (or whatever the circle around the head in icons is called in English)? Also, do I/ does one draw a halo on Christians who haven't been canonised? I know Christ is given a halo with the three cross like beams with the Greek/Slavonic letters (I AM if the icon is English). Do other of the more "special" figures, such as Mary or any of the Apostles have a special halo or another special distinguisher like Christ, or does everybody else have a regular halo? How is the Holy Spirit presented in iconography, does it too have halo? Is God the Father blasphemous to have on icons, how do you present Him in scenes He speaks to others, does He have special features like a halo for the others? What other interesting details and "lore" from lack of better words are there about icons? I know the Orthodox church generally regards the Angel of God (if that's the name, the one who saved Abraham's son) to be the un-incarnate Word (Christ, the Son) but isn't drawn as Him in iconography.

    • @HomoEucharistica
      @HomoEucharistica 8 місяців тому +5

I'm not Bojan or even iconographer, but as far as I know, all saints have very same halo above their heads; for it represents (I think) the uncreated light of God, as well as the Holy Spirit who abides in them. Only Christ has a different halo, having the cross and letters "ο, ω, ν" in it. I've seen that some iconographers use that halo (and letter couples IC XC) even when they try to depict the Angel of the Lord... By the way, it was Hagar in the Bible who first met the Angel of the Lord, and after her and Abraham He visited Jacob, Moses, Gideon and some others.
You can recognize the icon of Holy Theotokos by three stars (two on her shoulders and one on her forehead) that symbolize her eternal virginity, and very often she has Jesus on her arms as a baby. Usually she also has very similar clothes in all her icons (blue cloth and red scarf/cloak). For these reasons, she is likely one of the most recognizable saints. The Apostles carry very often a scroll with them (except John and Matthew who carry the Gospel book). Martyrs have often a little cross, or alternatively the weapon they were killed with (but not always, if a saint belongs to many categories simultaneously, iconographer must choose how to depict the saint). Venerables are understandably in the clothes of the monk or nun. Unmercenary healers carry sometimes a medicine box or something like that with them.

Dear Bojan, I was very inspired by the Martyr Arethas and the 4299 Martyrs with him comemorated tomorrow (new calendar).
Would you please consider making a reliquary for them? Or a short if you think it will fit better.
Thank you for all your work.

A Father naturally loves his firstborn son before his other children but this does not detract from the Father's love for his other children. The firstborn is first among his brothers and by that merit, also bears the greatest responsibility. The firstborn's role and responsibility does not lessen the love deserved nor earned by the other brothers.
All of this is to say, there is the possibility of the first among equals if the same Father is shared and the appropriate responsibility is not shirked.
