Finally got to test this out today and I thought it was amazing. As an iOS user I’m definitely making the change to this phone because it was that good. I also tested the iPhone 12 and s20 FE and I found the pixel more satisfying to use and hold. I also didn’t notice a difference between the 90hz and 120hz screen on the FE and pixel. The back of the pixel felt really nice and smooth and the sage color looks better in person. Great review though.

    • @Carrot_Handler
      @Carrot_Handler 4 роки тому +2

@@greezythumb The 4XL is a substantially heavier and less comfortable phone to hold. I have been using the Pixel 5 for two weeks now and I'm not going back to a bigger and heavier device
The specification differences are a non issue as they had zero impact on my usage.
The screen is brighter and the battery is a lot better, accompanied by a wide angle lens and a smaller body the pixel 5 is just a better phone.
The only noticeable difference between the 4XL and 5 is the speaker quality... But as I never really use its not a issue and if your after a android phone it's definitely not a deal breaker.
Its not a direct upgrade to a 4 or XL but as a phone it's a 10/10 device.

Renderd the phone completely useless as the screen blew out around the camera and wouldn't show anything but a green line across the top. However it took a week before the battery died. Personally, I see no new camera sensor, having to wait for images to process, no front firing speakers, no unlimited quality Google photos backup. For me, I'm keeping my Pixel 3 non-XL until something worthy comes out to upgrade to.

Unfortunately, mine has the infamous screen gap issue. Even though Google said it's normal, after some consideration I think I'll be returning it. I don't feel comfortable with it. I can't really trust the water resistance and I don't like the feeling that I got a defective device. Apart from that, I do like the phone. If I can't get a replacement, I'll ask for a refund and will consider buying it again in maybe a couple of months when Google has hopefully sorted out this manufacturing issue.

Thank you Jason for your very informative info and honest review about Google Pixel 5 🙏🏻👍🏻. Just purchased my Google Pixel 5 and am still waiting to pick up at local Best Buy. Tried to purchase from Google Store directly, but they're out of stock 🤦🏻‍♀️😢. I already own Pixel 2XL for couple years and really love this android phone, but years ago I made a mistake to buy just 64 GB storage and no matter what I did for the last few months .. deleted some unused apps or deleted old files .. my Pixel 2XL storage seems to be getting larger and almost exceeded the limit 😳😳. Yea I know ... I love taking lots of photos and downloading music, even thou I have backed them up to Google 1 and deleted from device, still taking storage space. So since I cannot upgrade storage, I decided to consider buying new Pixel with bigger storage, was thinking to get Pixel 4XL. Didn't mean to buy Pixel 5, but since Pixel 4XL price is still outrages so my decision came to Pixel 5, since it's the newest with a lot of great features, a little smaller and lighter but still have other great qualities in Pixel, specially the battery life, photo quality etc. I got my Pixel 2XL a couple years ago and the price is just US$100 less than this newest Pixel. And like you said, I don't really care about the non-metallic phone since I always put my phone in heavy duty shockproof case. Anyway, I'm more confident and excited now about my decision to purchase Pixel 5 after watching your video. Again, thank you and thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻😊😁🤗

Great review. Thank you for your good work, I appreciate your thoroughness!
I always tend to gravitate towards flagship models. It’s worth the few extra bucks to have something that’ll offer better performance, and age gracefully.
After owning HTC, Samsung and LG, I now have a Pixel 3XL (the notorious “notch” phone).
I’ve never had any qualms with it, and as a matter of fact, want to stick with the Pixel - so I found this review very interesting.
I like the big, honkin’ XL model.
I haven’t as of yet crossed over to the dark side with the iPhone.
What can I say? I’m an Android guy.
    The damage has been done.
My whole life is on my cell, and I like to customize the living crap out of it.
As usual, I’m taking my time and being very deliberate in selecting my next cell.
That’s why guys like you are so important!

It’s a great phone and I recommended it to a friend. Sadly, his brand new unit has an issue. The cameras on their own are perfectly fine but whenever he places a video call, through whichever app, on both lenses, his video is pixelated to the point that it makes a MacBook camera look good. He contacted Pixel support and they suggested him to send his unit and offered a replacement. I’ve seen countless reviews on the Pixel and they all had good things to say about it but I feel it is still plagued with reliability and quality issues. I wanted this to be the pixel that finally fixed quality issues but I guess will have to wait another year, at least.

I liked this phone when I used it but compared to competitors I felt it fell short. I ended up getting an iPhone and leaving Android completely. The Pixel tool really sub par video indoors that showed a ton of noise in dark colors. My iPhone and S20 take way better videos. Sometimes the shutter speed was also too slow as well to take reliable photos of my kid. And at this point nearly all phones are fine with photo quality.

So I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 now and after 3+ years of usage it has gotten pretty slow now and I have to upgrade soon because it's becoming kind of unbearable. For the processors on the Pixel 5, is it faster than the S8's processor? And do you think I will also be able to get the same longevity out of this phone as the Samsung Galaxy S8 before it becomes too slow for me? (+/- 3 years...) Thanks a lot! :)

It's fun that almost every downside you describe is actually a big deal, but you simply skip it because it still does its job. This Pixel stepped back from the predecessors too much, even if it manages to correct issues like the battery life (by basically putting in a larger one), for the price they're trying to sell it, it is simply not acceptable. Google could, and still can, produce a valid competitor, but they clearly won't. It doesn't even bother me the lack of an high-end processor, but at that price you NEED to put at least an in-screen fingerprint scanner, 120Hz display, keep the pixel visual core, and start at 128GB.
