Master Class👌🏻 Would It affect the fly or hook-set if I tie in a light mono hook guard?

Thanks! 👍👍 It wouldn't affect the movement or performance at all! Good luck and share a photo if it on Instagram when you're done! I'd love to see it!!

Thats a $$$ tie. Sparse, rides hook point up, enjoyable to cast, love it!

The jig hook is a good choice.

Great fly. I've been waiting for a new video from you.
It would make a great sandal pattern tied larger.
Do you think Squimish material is preferable to ducktail?

Different materials for Different effects. Squimpish in a fly like this would be advantageous to a sand eel pattern that you want to fish deep as synthetics have no buoyancy.

      Agreed 100%.

Another advantage to the squimpish is that you can create your own taper, where Duck Tail is more of a challenge to create the same taper at length.

Do you find good hook sets are harder with this jig hooks? I feel like I miss more fish with the jig style hook? Just me or do you have any tips/input from your experience?

I absolutely love jig hooks, these Gamakatsu hooks are insanely sticky! When I get a strike and hook set, there is little doubt in my mind about losing that fish! I started fly fishing with jig hooks more than 20 years ago, big old eagle claws and I've never looked back. I'd encourage you to pick up some of these Gamakatsu's and give them a try. I think you're gonna be impressed! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Use a thin coat of UV resin on the body instead of using the mono thread over it.

I've moved away from UV resin, only because I've had it crack and break off! Let me know what brand you use and if you've had success with durability.
