I love Jaguars and have owned many over the years, old and new. I remember my kids being allowed to sit in the brown XJ6 in the Browns Lane factory in the 1990s.... Sad that the old Browns Lane site is no more - but it was such a relief that the collection is now in safe hands. I hope Jaguar can rediscover their 'mojo' - as the current range is falling behind.... (Embarrassed to admit, I bought a Range Rover instead of a current Jaguar.......)
Like you I have loved Jaguars for many years since as a small boy my GP took me for a blast along the old Great North Road between Potters Bar and Hatfield in his red XK140 and later his then brand new XK 150 but I have to agree with you about the current cars. I currently have a 2008 X350 which I think is the last of the proper XJs, it has been practical to keep it because I have taken early retirement since I purchased it and now only do about 4000 miles a year in it. I think the current cars whist they are very good are quite anonymous and lack the presence and individuality of the earlier cars. That said it may be a generational thing because I can think of probably only three luxury saloons that I would buy because I like the look of them and they are all unattainable.
I agree probably one of the best looking cars Jaguar ever made. The reason they had such a short production run was they where really build to homologate the cars for racing in BLs ill fated foray with Broadspeed in the touring car series and whilst there were plans for a series three Coupé the plans where dropped because it was felt it would steal XJ-S sales and they had started to race the XJ-S with much greater success.
I love the early Jaguars before ford ruin them, unfortunately I had bad experience with an X Type 2.5 SE when I finally had the money to own one, not bore you with what went wrong it was a lot in the one year that I kept it, it put me of them for life nice posting. :)
Let's hope jaguar brings back new version of xj. Jags always been beautiful cars. My opinion x351 shouldn't have been. Want to see new xj that's modern with hints of classic lines.
Sadly I don't think that will happen certainly given Jaguar's current marketing strategy, I have a latish X350 which now doesn't do a huge mileage since I took early retirement but a couple of years back I briefly flirted with the idea of an XF, I visited a showroom and I liked the way the car drove and I quite liked the toys although it didn't have a lot more than my XJ I said to the salesman I still wasn't totally sold on the looks to which he responded that modern Jaguars weren't really aimed at my demographic and more at the younger executives that might otherwise buy an Audi or BMW but the very reason I love my car is because it isn't a BMW, Mercedes or Audi.
