Hey Brian! Viewer fan here! Glad to see a video! Nice work as usual! Hope all is well and shop boss is well! Not having to deal with the chickens😂. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸💪🇺🇸
A very interesting video. I have never seen a cylinder bored in a horizontal orientation. Things can go wrong really quick. I triple check my measurements before boring, and I'm still a nervous wreck.
Hey Brain, don't get to visit much with tending to the Bride, but just got off the mower @9pm and jumped on to wind dw my day,,,great video and made my day (@@)! 50 here and finally getting some much needed rain tonight. Vette gone on Friday, and nice to have some needed room in our shop. Now to get back on over due projects since Hospices is on board 4 days to care for the bride. Have a super wk end, Bear.
Nice repair there Brian, them engines had one foot in the grave from day one in a marine application. I've done lots of re power jobs on those, mostly 6090 deere as replacements. Take care bud!
@@bcbloc02 Yes . Just a certain serial number range . The ones we have been doing are about 7 years old . You have to die grind extra clearance on the web next to the lifter bore for the lifter hook . Also drill the 2 end holes deeper for cyl 1 & 6 . It's all on SIS if you have access . I will see if i can email you a copy .
@@swanvalleymachineshop I guess that is a difference between a c9 and a 3126. This is a 3126 block because it has the bolt in style lifters like a 855 Cummins. It doesn’t have lifter bores in the block

@@chrisjacks2599 Perhaps you are talking about deflection? With a boring bar there is always deflection. It causes the hole to bore undersized. This is why if I take a cut pull out to check size and cut over that part again the bore size will increase some. That is what makes boring to a tight tolerance the first time very tricky.
Do they make sleeves that do not have to have the ID bored ? See to remember my brother just dropping new sleeves into engines... Or is that block not made with replaceable sleeves...
Don't know how to put it, really, but is your shop assistant boss, Baily still with us? I know he ain't no spring chicken but I hope he's peaceful and stuff - as I say don't know how to ask!
Baily still kicking but certainly not very high. He turns 17 in less than 2 weeks. He is ancient for a big dog but still gets lots of loveins. Eat sleep and stagger about is how he spends his days these days. I sure do wish I could fix him like a machine but I am afraid he is just worn out. Sure has been a good run and hopefully he keeps going awhile longer.

Depends on how many holes need done. Also it is usually cheaper to just bore oversize and buy oversized pistons than to sleeve. Email me details of what you have and I can tell you better.

Freezing does make it easier. I use a fast freeze spray.
Or dry ice
That horizontal boring mill is the ticket.
I want one of those too.
I find the boring head spinning around very relaxing. Almost hypnotic.
Brian is at it again. Great engine, too bad Cat don't make them today. I have a C7, I think they are similar.
Yeah pretty much just less displacement but the same design.

Over here in Australia, i think in Perth, a Guy put a turbocharged Cat 3208 turbocharged V8 into a 40 series Landcruiser.
Sounds like a tight fit.

We have real good luck out of the 6090 Deere only problem we ever see in them is when the roller gets kicked sideways and they take out the cam.
Nice job thanks for sharing
What’s going on down there old man! Got some items for ya the next time I get down that way. Hopefully soon

0:00 -1:00 that boring bar appears to have a visible wobble to it.
Even if it was bent in an S shape it would make no difference. A single point tool revolves in space only at some distance from the axis of rotation.

No sleeves in this block from the factory.
Old school machine work. I wonder if you would entertain sleeving a coyote engine?

How did you fit the sleeve in, did you use heat and cool method of just a press fit!? When you decked the block, will the have to use oversized head gasket?
I only took .005” off the head surface it should still clear ok. I shrink the liner with a freeze spray then shove it in.

How much press fit did you give it?
About .001" I always leave a ledge so no way the liner can move down later on.
