It has taken 25 years to get there...give him a damn minute.
They should’ve let him at least 5 minutes
The man almost had a heart attack giving that speech.
Romeyo 10 I'm sure it was very exciting, finally getting the attention he deserves. Don't devalue this moment. He is one of the purest filmmakers working today with the best heart. No pun intended, I swear. He is a hero to most film lovers.
Sure, but this is the internet. Dark humour is part and parcel of it.
nurev187 Talk about shooting first and asking questions later.
"lower the music, it's taken 25 years, give me a minute", when Guillermo del Toro is speaking, you listen.
Lol he shut the music off. I bet some of the technicians didn’t like that; they kept the music going for several seconds and then off. Respect.
Yeah don't ruin his moment
suddenly hideo kojima appears out of nowhere riding atop a gekko TURN OFF THAT MUSIC
spielberg agrees with you too
Loved it. He is amazing
He loves monsters and his twisted fantasies and yet he's the sweetest man in the business.
Maxblind20 yes!!
Maxblind20 Most of us who do are warm hearted and empathic people.
It's the "normal people" that you should be worried about.
I do love his Blade 2 movie
Some one ask Him this on the Q&A after the show and have a very good answer for that!
Sally, Octavia and Doug crying for him is so sweet!
Arghavan fth perfect cast
Guillermo Del Toro.. the man who got them to lower the music. VIVA DEL TORO!!!!
hell yeah
Heartful and deeply meaningful acceptance speech. He had his right to go on.
Well deserved. Hope he wins the Oscar!
He doesn't deserve an Oscar there are better.
Thoros it is between him and Nolan
You totally lost an English class, he didn't say *del Toro* deserved an Oscar. READ IT!!!
mr mark ben the winner of the DGAs will win the Oscar
The Bear from The Revenant tell that to Ben Affleck
Nothing more Mexican than "Give me a break it'd been 25 years i deserve 25 seconds more" get him an Oscar
Captain Brandon Horror Lover the dudes like a kid. He just wants to hang out with his monsters
Captain Brandon Horror Lover and it's funny too because shape of water is his most adult film but it still has that mind of a kid feel that's in something like hellboy or pans labyrinth or pacific rim
Captain Brandon Horror Lover yeah! I think the only film I've seen from him that doesn't have that feel was blade 2. And that's understandable. He was making something that could fit with what was established in the first one so maybe his innocence Wonder feel wouldn't have worked in blade 2.
Agreed, outside of "most adult" - Unless you mean because of the nudity, which would be a distinctly American perspective... see Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone, among others. That typed, I'm not saying you're wrong - Only that I disagree.
Blade 2 has a completely different aesthetic and feel than the first. I wouldn't be surprised is del Toro also changed the script (although I don't know that and there are scenes I don't think del Toro would've ever filmed if he had total control, but I don't know - Just a hunch).
"I thank you, my monsters thank you, and somewhere, Lon Chaney is smiling on all of us." - As a horror fan, best quote of the night.
Hollywood treats Guillermo so poorly. Such an underrated artist.
Probably cause he won't pander to the political nonsense that's why
Jay IU underrated? He just won a Golden Globe Award for Best Director
because of murica. He is not american
Diego Pisfil
No
His movies are about heavy themes and criticisms against the aspects of war in the past something not many people venture to and stays away from trying to make a Hollywood blockbuster hit of the year
Spielberg looking at him 1:10
'' I know what you mean...''
I got a little teary eyed seeing that..lol
Yes and Christopher Nolan
Geeker Az where do you see Christopher Nolan?
Kitsch Puffer Fish geez how did you guys notice him 😂 he’s all the way back there
Been a huge fan of him since Hellboy back in 04. He truly is a master in fantasy and completely deserves this.
Patches O'Houlihan Right!? Hellboy was such an awesome movie to me when I was a kid. I absolutely loved it and its unique difference.
Patches O'Houlihan ye man he deserve it i was so happy when i heard his name getting it
Blade 2 was awesome as well
If you think helboy was good , Pan's laborynth was much better by far his best film.
Bob Dole Yes but that came out 2 years after Hellboy
Beautiful speech. The best.
i know right! such an iconic storyteller!
ALFONSO CUARON
ALEJANDRO G. INARRITU
and GUILLERMO DEL TORO
The Three Amigos of Cinema
Emanuel Lubezki may not be a director, but he definitely is part of the Amigos!
The Three Amigos of Hollywood*
Rafa Herrera
He should work with Del Toro
Del Toro directed a beautiful film! Loved The Shape of Water. Give it 10/10
SPOILER WARNING! I found it to be too short. It was almost like woman meets monster and want to have his fish schnabel inside her asap. Very very creepy. If only the movie could explain the reasoning behind this a little better. Got to remember that the monster was in chains, the monster would likely do anything to be set free, and it can also be suffering from "Stockholm syndrome" or something similar. Being captive, and then the woman free him and have sex with him... creeeeeepy!
He should've won for Pan's Labyrinth. Guaranteed he'll win for Best Director this year. He'll be the 3rd Mexican director to win an Oscar serving as an inspiration for rising Mexican/Hispanic/Spanish directors of this generation to create art. He's so humble.
it's ok to say mexican / hispanic but not spanish -.- spanish are from spain! guillermo del toro is a mexican director! so, he is hispanic because mexicans speak spanish
Efra Bros Plus if we can be honest for a second...Mexico and Spain don’t go well together in the same sentence due to let’s call it historic differences like... genocide to name just one.
Regardless! Lol I'm Mexican-American yet don't know a lick of Spanish but what I do know is that he's still an inspiration to us aspiring filmmakers. Whether it's Hispanics/Mexicans filmmakers or Spanish filmmakers from Spain, he, along with Alfonso and Alejandro, and also Spanish Oscar winners Jose Luis Garci and Fernando Trueba, serve an inspiration. Plus, it's midnight. Sleepy as hell.
Mr. V, you've made my night!
spanish directors jose luis garci and Fernando Trueba did not win oscar for best director -.- but for best foreign language film!! it's different! ;)
*¡Te mereces eso y más!*
México está orgulloso de ti, felicidades Guillermo!!
Felicidades Guillermo del Toro, Viva México!!!
Y Hernandez ándale así se dice
Hopefully he winning for Pinocchio for Animated Feature
He is adorable
Amazing! So proud he represents my homeland in Mexico! A true man, and with so much talent! Viva mexico!
Nallely Rangel yes viva Mexico, so proud of this man.
Dude honestly didn't need to win an award for me to know that he's a great director. But if it made him feel good, it makes me feel good. Keep telling us stories about your monsters, Guillermo.
Almas Alardhi ❤️❤️❤️
Almas Alardhi well, i rather see him getting it than not getting it. Awards to some are meaningless but there are few who work hard and struggle to belive in themselves and an award, ceremony and an extra minute of speech(to praise others involved) helps them understand that It happend. Not every winner has winners mentality i guess.
GO GUILLERMO!!
Przemyslaw Skoczylas Awards are really meaningless. The purpose of a director should be the message of story they are telling, not the amount of awards or money they are getting from the film.
Juan Valdivia you can say so only if u r a monk. Other wise u r just a hypocrite
Przemyslaw Skoczylas why I'm an hypocrite?
Ugh so beautiful I am crying
I've been a film graduate, directing and acting in a few shorts through and after college, in the past 12-18 months a flame went out on my love for cinema and I've been working a mundane job to get by, after watching the Shape of Water that flame has been well & truly lit again & I feel like the spark and love I have for cinema has returned. Funnily enough Pans Labyrinth was the film that lit the original flame so I find it fitting that a Del Toro film has reeled me back to what I love. Thank you Guillermo Del Toro you amazing genius, you deserve every award under the Sun.
I’ve seen all his films, Mimic is the only one I haven’t enjoyed. Even then it wasn’t bad.
Funny also, that those film you mention, are the ones that GDT said had save his ife too, Watch "Devil's Backbone"
@@sherlockholmes8528
Pls no, its a very cult film. Do not spread this to them #joking
thank god he won! one of the best speeches ever! it got me all teary eyed!
THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING,,, DEL TORO IS A MASTERMIND
He's an amazing artist. I hope he gets an Oscar.
I liked his Blade 2 movie
So proud of this man!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
It’s about time.
I so happy for him idk why I’m crying he deserves it!
Michael Anderson I won’t!
He deserved it
+mr mark ben simon vato loco Lol :v
I love this guy my contryman. Viva Mexico!
I wept during this speech, because I have walked with Guillermo through his entire career, and know how much passion, dedication and love that he and his crew put into his movies, especially the passion projects like The Devils Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth and The Shape of Water.
I foreigner at the top of his craft still has to fight through crap to get this done right. And so despite that difficulty, when he triumph, I understand, and so I wept.
Most emotional speech of the night.
What a sweet humble mexican monster...my heart cries of joy for this great human being...wow, thank u for all ur fantasty Del Toro
As a Latino I got really emotional seeing him there, he's truly an inspiration not only as an artist, but as a human being also.
I was trying to contain my tears but then they showed Sally Hawkins crying and I lost it :'(
LATINO PRIDE!!! This is the dream everyone talks about people
Belen Morales
Hope he wins the Oscar too!
CHSTPK VW Inarritu is from Spain.
The Shawshank Inception Iñarritu is from Mexico.
If it's okay to have Latino Pride and Black Pride, is it ok to have White Pride? Asking for a friend.
Mathew D, of course it's ok to have white pride, as long as you don't feel superior to others.
What a humble and honorable guy, good on him. Shame it is overshadowed by a certain someone.....
FreNziKiLL But look at the shame on her face when she saw his heartfelt grattitude. She felt bad.
She didn't overshadow it...she just tried and failed. Now go sit down Natalie
That’s my homie Guillermo.
He mentions Lon Chaney!!!! 😁😰😫 so emotional!
I wish these videos didn't cut out the part where the nominees and the winner are announced, seeing the reactions are the best part of these award shows.
Sally and Octavia look so proud of him :) I love all the directors, but if del toro wins the oscar for best directing, i will run naked and screaming in my neighborhood of happiness.
Well deserve it
¡Envidioso!
he's such an inspiration for me
Guillermo simplemente eres un genio mil mil felicidades. Felicidades México.
So happy for him! Saw his movie twice. So good!
Cuaron, Iñarritu and the next?? del toro.....los tres amigos!!
indeed! hadn't realized that
La Santa Trinidad
Ewwww Iñarritu apesta. Excepto por amores perros.
Se me hacen medio pretenciosas sus películas. Pero Amores perros es un tesoro nacional.
D Belle Birdman es excelente.
Good luck for the oscar awards! a great mexican director Guillermo del Toro
Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu - 2 oscars
Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron - 1 oscar
Cuarón filmed a movie called ROMA this year in Mexico City
matias balbin - They CAN and they HAVE!
Xattack21 1 Iñarritu has won 2 competitive oscars for best director and the others were special oscars! that's why i only wrote "2 oscars" because he defeated others to win!
Congratulations, Guillermo! Well deserved, and I can't wait to see more!
Guillermo is a great story teller. Ever since I saw Pan's Labyrinth I become a big fan of him and I watched all his movies.he was born in Mexico and inspired an Indian like me and many more in the world. I wish he wins the Oscar
Bless Del Toro...glad he won. Fully deserved.
That speech made me tear up :,-) happy for his win.
He totally deserved to win. Really such an amazing director and his films are mindblowing.
He is an inspiration for me
That was the most well deserved Golden Globe ever. I feel happy for Guillermo del Toro.
You gotta love Guillermo!! the words that come out of his mouth are truly words of wisdom. A true visionary as well. You gotta really admire the man. One of a kind.
Totally deseved and I´m sure that he´s gonna win the oscar ;)
Guillermo del Toro won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in an Animated Program for Trollhunters.
No it will either be McDonagh or Nolan.
The Shawshank Inception No I think Del Toro has all the momentum going into the Oscars. I think he has the best chance to win at the moment.
Moviefan123 Nolan can win too.
Neelima Chandra Nolan can wait imo, this is GDT's moment
in love with this man i started tearing up as soon as he startrd talking and i love Doug Jones too btw
In a subcontinent dominated by Corruption,Reggaeton and Fast and the furious...you are a treasure Guillermo. Latinoamerica's proud.Viva Mexico !
One of my fave directors ever. I love his movies!!
He must win Best Director for this years Oscars. He almost won Best Foreign Film with Pan's Labyrinth but lost to a German film, The Lives of Others. No offense to that movie, but Pan's have the quality of a perfect film. #latinopower #guillermodeserveit
Pale Man should have won Best supporting actor that year.
Lives of Others is a terrific film though, to be fair.
Well Pan's Labyrinth was great because of technicality while Lives is over-all a better film so it deserves to win that year.
FridaFan I haven't seen The Shape of Water but if it's anywhere near as good as Pan's Labyrinth he deserves an Oscar.
I'm German, and I absolutely agree that Pan's Labyrinth should have won. The Lives of Others was a good film, but Pan's Labyrinth was brilliant from start to finish.
Guillermo del Toro deserved it I want to watch his movie
My favorite director hands down. Pan's labyrinth is my favorite film and I am so happy he won .
When he asks them to dip the music down and they actually d for a little bit. Good, respect to such a talented Director!
I honestly don't think anyone has ever got them to stop the music before
I'M SO PROUD TO BE MEXICAN RIGHT NOW
todd todd If you really are Mexican, then be proud all times.
What a beautiful soul and personality. Pure talent. So glad for this gentleman!
"I thank you,
My monsters thank you"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
WELL FUCKIN DESERVED.The man has been making great movies for years.
Well deserved! Quite the fan here! "The Shape of Water" was a beautifully crafted tale!
Brilliant director. His films have a really magical look about them, every scene is just a joy to look at. I really enjoyed 'The Shape of Water', one of his best.
We need more Guillermo's del Toro
He is unique
I’m glad they didn’t included Natalie’s part when she presented the award. It would have taken away Del Toro’s totally deserved moment.
look how uncomfortable she is
She actually said something while presenting the award? While I've seen other comments, I haven't seen the footage and didn't know it was at that time. Honestly, I didn't see her in this footage. That is so incredibly disrespectful and immature. It actually makes me mad. I hope that she's never invited to present another award and that it didn't upset del Toro.
It would have not, what she said was just for the creators/people behind the awards not the male actors
So proud! Very well deserved. Let's get that oscar.
next mexican director to win an Oscar mark. my. words. orgullo mexicano!!!
No digas pinches mamadas.
I never thought that a thing like this would matter to me. Seeing a man of my nationality win a trophy . Guillermo's speech and seeing his journey since Cronos did something for me I did not expect. I found myself feeling proud and motivated and hopeful, found myself inspired. Thank you for this inspiration Guillermo. May you know that you inspired many of us who call ourselves Mexicans. You have inspired us to create as you create.
Totoro del Toro, a genius!
My Boy did it! Del Toro for an Oscar!
So beautiful how the cast was so happy for him
Es una persona tierna, y de gran talento, tendré que ver The shape of water
Should've won for Pan's Labyrinth years ago! Good for Del Toro. Much respect!
Now all three friends: Alfonso, Alejandro and Guillermo has GG!!!!!!!!
Tenía que ganar ! ya lo tenía merecido
Listening to del Toro's heartfelt speech and watching the cutaways to Sally Hawkins and Octavia Spencer caused me to cry... I'm so very glad the del Toro won - for a variety of reasons, including those outside of the fact that his work deserved it.
he is not only a great director he is an Artist with a capital A
RIP Silent Hills
The world will never get over it...
What a sweet and kind man. He deserves this more than anybody.
About time. He is one of the few people in Hollywood I respect for their art. Wonderful creator.
he deserves this award so much, i'm so happy for him he seems so genuine and is so talented
Ahuevo VIVA MÉXICO 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽😁
We love Guillermo del Toro's monsters! And we need much more of them, please.
He better get the Oscar! Because he damn well sure deserves one!
Great director and a beautiful person.
gives such a humble and heartfelt speech after Portman insults him to his face.
