It’s good for the category but I am tired of the glee people have against Disney. Also it’s Pixar the Oscars have a bias for. Oscars really embraced international films this year: anatomy of a fall, zone of interest, boy and the heron, 20 Days is Mariupol and minus one all won!
I am Japanese 日本人です We celebrate 2 wins for the first time in 15 years (since "Departures" and "The House of Small Cubes" in 2008) Most of you must be wondering why "Godzilla Minus One" was not the Japanese submition of International film. On the other hand, everyone thought famous Wim Wender's film was more Oscar-like especially after it won Cannes for the best actor. This is why it was a huge surprise that "Godzilla Minus One" was very successful both commercially and critically overseas. At Japanese Academy awards of the last week, which nobody even in Japan cares, "Godzilla" sweeped 8 categories including the best picture, while "Perfect Days" got 2 wins for the best director and best actor. But it was of course too late for the Oscar international film. In Japan, every one predicted "Godzilla" and "The Boy and the Heron" win Producer Toshio Suzuki just revealed at a press conference that even though Hayao Miyazaki was pretending he did not care about the awards, he was waiting at his atelier the good news, Ghibli staff was watching the show and started to clap as soon as they heard the "The" of "The Boy and the Heron", And Suzuki ordered 3 Oscar statue for himself, Miyazaki, and to show off. Also, everyone, do not forget that today is March 11th, 13 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
How do most Japanese feel about best picture going to a film like Oppenheimer, which tells the story of the atomic bomb from the American perspective? (It does show that the bomb is horrifying but I can see how Japanese people might not appreciate the way it told its story)
@@purekinema The most controvertial thing was "Barbemheimer" meme, where Barbie's hair looks like a mashrume cloud of atomic bombs. "Oppenheimer" will be seen since the end of March in Japan. The reason why "Oppenheimer" was not premiered last summer was because it would hit August 6th and 9th, the days 2 bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Although some may concern that Japanese people are not depicted in the film, it will be successful for sure.
Great job this entire awards season, guys! Looking forward to the early predictions because there are always a bunch that I'm not aware of yet, so it gives me a list of films to look forward to.
The Academy always seems to weirdly disrespect Scorcese despite him being the greatest living director. Is it because he doesn't prefer to campaign as hard as the others?
when Poor things won makeup I knew Lily was in trouble. There's been a strong correlation between makeup and acting in the last few years, The Whale-Frasier, Tammy Faye-Chastain, an others I don't remember.
@@pb.j.1753 that's not the point, all I say is that there's been a recent history correlation between the makeup winner and lead actors winners. it doesn't matter how much makeup they're wearing or their merit (on either category)

Knowing this channel since 2017, this is his worst year yet. If you see why it's because he understimated Bafta and international voters. Poor Things overperformed and they had it winning zero Oscars, he missed 4 right there.
@@Mc76204 I feel like they read too much into SAG and did some weird switches in all categories. It was a bit bizarre. These are the same peeps who did really well last year with EEAO.
Love that we can already add predictions for next year’s Oscar’s! I’ve had them ready for months. I’m going to see Sing Sing at the Miami Film Festival in a few weeks and I’m so excited!!
It really seems like certain directors have a certain knack for directing lead or supporting characters; Tarantino is excellent at directing supporting actors (3 wins in the category in 10 years is impressive) and Lanthimos is great at directing female lead performances
@@ClassicalMusic2002 true! I didn’t thought about Tarantino and Supporting actors… but recently I also thought about Pablo Larraín that got Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart nominated for leading roles, and this year he’s supposedly releasing a film with Angelina Jolie as the lead 👀
There are always a lot of concurrent narratives. Emma didn't have one per se but she's a risk taker and this role was a huge risk that probably no other actress working today would've dared take. Maybe her "narrative" was awarding risk. Just a thought.
I don't know what risk she's taking when she paired up with the oscar nominated director she already worked with who got his previous leading actress a Best Actress Oscar. I think their studio just had more to campagin with considering she's known in the industry for years and is very friendly with a lost of votint members versus Lily Gladstone who was a newcomer virtually no one knew on top of the fact that Scorcese is routinely never nominated and ignored by the Academy (Hugo being his sole exception)
@@shayanahmed7132 Meh, her performance was simply better. All I kept hearing durnig the season was "Gladstone narrative." That was it. Emma literally blew me away.
I got 21/23 on Golderby. My best results ever. Why? I bet on Poor Things. Ever since I saw Poor Things, I knew it was at best #2 after Oppie. I think people think that SAG will always be right, and not BAFTAS. This isn't always the case. Also, there was no passion for KOTM. The Oscar nominations were a big hint. Let this be a lesson to people. Like Coleman beating Close. Hopkins beating Boseman. The Academy doesn't just go for a narrative. If a performance is too good, they will go for that performance period.
I'm so obsessed how Al Pacino announced the winner, it couldn't have been more anti climatic than it actually is. Bro came to the stage, say a few words in a drunken way, didn't bother to introduce the nominees first, opened the envelope, "My eyes see Oppenheimer", music started as he was about the say the producer's name, and he said "What happened?" My god, I love that man 😂😂
It's similar to the Best Original Song category announcement, where they also announced the winner right away, since each of the Picture and Original Song nominee was mentioned throughout the show like an individual Best Picture nominee clip and an Original Song performance.
The take that Spider-Verse lost because the Academy dislikes comic-book films doesn't resonate - the first one won the category! This came down to the increased international presence and influence of the Oscar voting body, as also evidenced by Anatomy of a Fall winning screenplay, Zone of Interest winning sound, and Godzilla winning VFX. Who wouldn't want to take another opportunity to recognize Miyazaki?
Good point. I've been calling the win for The Boy And The Heron since I saw the movie back in December. It is just a flat out better movie than Spider-Verse. Glitz and flash and colors and pop and Whams and Bhams and fireworks can only get you so far.
I think it’s a combination of a lot of factors: Spider-verse was six months old when Boy and the Heron came out, the controversy over the summer about how poor the working conditions were for the animators on the film, and the fact that this is the middle film in a trilogy all hurt its chances here. Boy and the Heron came out at the right time, was considered by many people to be Miyazaki’s best since Spirited Away, and was incredibly popular with the international voting body. Not to mention it opened at #1 in the US box office in December!
@@ClassicalMusic2002I agree. Spider verse will win for the final film as it will actually have a proper ending that won't end on a cliffhanger. Besides, they've pretty much won everything anyway. They might nominate beyond the spider versus more categories depending on what happens. Thanks to the boy and the heron, animation is now recognized as more than just a genre. It's an art form, it is storytelling. This will allow beyond the spider verse to thrive as the academy is now more accepting and that animation will mean more to them in the future. Also, The Academy could give Phil Lorde and Chris Miller or even Kemp Powers and honorary Oscar later on for their contribution to the animation industry, paving the way and changing animation forever. This was a well-deserved win for Ghibli and a proper send off for Miyazaki if it truly is his last film.
Once again it was proven that if an animated feature wins BAFTA and loses Annie award, it never loses OSCAR これで「BAFTA受賞しアニー賞受賞しなかった作品はすべてアカデミー賞をとる」というジンクスは守られた

I'm beyond happy that Zone of Interest won Sound. Especially since I actually saw it for the first time, just before the ceremony. Every use of sound design in that film was so effective and told the story. It was absolutely incredible to see it win Sound, especially over Oppenheimer (which was my favorite film of the year), and don't get me wrong the use of sound design in that film was still very effective, but The Zone of Interest used sound in such a brand new way and told the story. I was absolutely beyond excited that it won and it's still hard to believe now. So seeing it win Best Sound, was absolutely incredible, especially since it used sound design the best of any of the films that year. I think it's very novel to see a film go on to upset a big contender the exact same day, for the first time and it was absolutely incredible to see.
@@TJMcDonough It is a Hangarian Holocost film that won Best foregin film in 2015. I think it is the best film of the year. Just like The Zone of Interest, the sound plays the most important role. We do not see mostly anyrhing but the sound gives us ideas of what is actually going on
Too bad the Oscars channel is refusing to upload his speech just because he spoke against Israel's occupation of Palestine and the genocide ongoing in Gaza. Cowards.
I think the delay due to the strikes actually helped poor things really win the words that did because it captured the hype at the perfect moment had it been released in September I think Barbie might’ve had more hype going into the awards season
I am so happy that I predicted Emma Stone the whole time of this awards season. My guts never trusted Lily to win. There was just something missing that Emma had. People slandering me, trashing me, cancelling me😂😂😂 where are they now? Narratives can't always make you win. Bella Baxter is a much much harder and meticulous role than Molly Burkhart. People need to see this. Emma made this role so easy. She is just that good.
Man, I feel you. Over on Reddit I was downvoted all the time, especially when I said SAG wouldn't be a determining factor this year. -30 downvotes. I got the last laugh.
The actor Cillian Murphy won an Oscar today... he also played a villain called Scarecrow in a few Batman movies... I guess you could say he's "out-standing in his field" 😂
I think this is the worst year for the Oscar expert and brother bro. Tons of misses. And it's just because they underestimated Poor Things and international voters.
I can clearly see that the "diversity votes factor" ended last night. Only Troy Kotsur deserved the sweep votes (that was a killer performance, tho). Three years of diversity votes aren't the right thing to do, especially overlooked performances like Emma Stones. Just a saying.
@@coachbronco Thing is the Oscars most of the times don't care. Imo, EEAO was best picture and Yeoh rode the wave. Just like Cillian rode Oppenheimer. Troy was also the best performance that year. Facts are Lilly was not the best and Killers had no passion. Hell, last year they said no to basset and chose a white nepo baby like Curtis. Also, they snubbed all black actresses. The Academy will do their thing.
I'm glad I stuck to my guns in my Boy and the Heron prediction. I almost caved and put down Spider-Verse, but between the Miyazaki narrative and the fact that Spider-Verse did not get any nominations other than Animated Feature (neither did Boy and the Heron, but that put them both on an even playing field, so to speak), as well as its wins at Golden Gloibe and BAFTA kept giving me pause. I actually think Spider-Verse feeling like an incomplete film probably hurt it, as well as them already having given it to the first one and the fact that there's a third one coming. For the record, my pick for Animated Feature was actually Robot Dreams (which is a gorgeous meditation on friendship and battling loneliness), and while I am in awe of the animation in the second Spider-Verse film, and still love the characters and the humor, the cliffhanger was a sticking point for me, as it told me I shouldn't judge it as a complete story (there are other films with cliffhangers that feel like full narratives, this one did not).
I screamed when boy and the heron won, I wanted it so bad. I’ve been predicting it since it’s globe win but admittedly wasn’t sure due to the PGA+ACE combo. In the end I chose to trust the GG+Bafta combo, plus with how international the Oscars have been lately (especially with Asian cinema) I locked it in. Also it felt like everyone was trying to make spiderverse stronger than it really was… (the controversy didn’t help either)
In a normal year I would’ve been really happy for Miyazaki win, but Across the Spiderverse was such an historic animated film and was definitely worthy of a best picture nom as well as an animated feature win
@@teamrainbow7674 while i agree both would’ve been fabulous winners, I think it’s too early to refer to ATSV as historic. That’s something that can only be given with time
@@teamrainbow7674 Boy and the Heron and Spiderverse were in my top 3 favorites of last year and both deserved score and picture nominations in my opinion. Them not getting score nominations is daylight robbery
I was hoping Lily Gladstone would win because this might be her only chance for an Oscar, since Emma Stone will probably be nominated five more times in her career
Now her name is around, I can see her coming back with something stronger where she is the main focus and not shared with two other titans like De Niro and Di Caprio.
Considering how much her name has been floating around there's no chance she won't get more opportunities. I'm sure she'll get chances for another nomination. Hopefully she gets put in the right category next time though.
Tbh Lily Gladstone’s performance was more of a supporting role. When she campaigned for BA, that was a suicide mission. It’s just not her time right now and everyone trying to compare her to the Michelle Yeoh narrative, just wasn’t applicable in this instance. I was always rooting for Emma Stone. They done Scorsese what they did to Spielberg last year for Fabelmans... and you guys really Underestimated Poor Things - time for a Lanthimos Retrospective for the both of you.. My gut feeling was The Zone Of Interest for Sound , but like many went for Oppenheimer for a ballot win
@TheOscarExpert: The boy and the Heron had a complete narrative. It also had a stronger narrative surrounding it regarding its animation process. Spider-Verse lacked a proper conclusion and suffered from being the middle entry in a trilogy. This isn't any issue as the film has already won so much with fans, critics, animation awards and has won a total of 97 awards. The original one in Oscar which is enough to cement this franchise as oscar-winning. The creators of these films are going to walk away with a special honorary. Oscar for their contribution to changing the animation industry forever somewhere down the line. Besides, the creators of this film will be awarded for beyond the spider verse when that comes out. Boy and the heron has opened incredible doors to animation in general. The academy has now accepted that animation is an art form and not just a genre. It is filmmaking. It is storytelling and they fully recognize that. Is a proper send-off for Studio Ghibli if this is his final film. That's the case, he'd have walked away with three Oscars total. That's an incredible achievement and a proper send off to a legendary filmmaker. Well deserved
16:15 to be fair, sag happened in the middle of voting this year so for some people bafta was the last award that happened before they submitted their ballots
These set of winners confirm what I have suspected all along: The winners are determined by the final voting dates. Last year, the voting for final winners began AFTER SAG (which is why they agreed last year), while this year the voting occurred one week earlier (right after BAFTA) with SAG being in-between.
One thing to consider: how much did the voting period for the Oscars starting before SAG affect voting? Like how many voters filled in their ballots right away before those winners (particularly Gladstone) were announced?
Was Emma Stone really winning by that much pre sag? To the point where it would be enough to overcome a Gladstone shift? I don’t buy it. Sag is 160k voters, academy is less than 10k, with 12% being actors. And 30% being international
My favorite win of the night was for Cord Jefferson. American Fiction barily had a month to finish filming the movie, it barily had a 10 million dollar budget. Despite all it's challenges, it still won the People's Choice award at the Telluride Festival. It also wins every precursor imaginable : Critic's Choice, Bafta, Independent Spirit, Scripter awards. Hence, I was confused as to why people thought Oppenheimer was going to win in this category ( and Barbie never stood a chance at winning). Cord Jefferson also had one of the most important and best speeches of the evening. I really hope it inspired upcoming filmmakers and screenwriters 🙏🏽
Right now in Japan, Emma ignoring Michelle, RDJ ignoring Ke is viral. Now X is all about racism (mainly about micro aggression), more than Godzilla and the Boy and the Heron. Today, Jennifer , Emma, and RDJ lost their popularity while Sally Field are praised even though few people knew her. I really don't understand why they did not look at Michelle and Ke who has an Oscar in the first place. Even if not racisim, it is just unbelievably rude.
Honestly, once the dust is settled, we all will remember these Oscars as the "Ones who could have been done by e-mail." Everyone who was tipped as the winner, won and even in the tight races (like Actress), it was one of the two hot favourites. Most surprises came from the nominations (Cough Robbie and Gerwig out Cough) and some late comers to the race like American Fiction and Godzilla Minus One, but it was mostly what you and other experts said. Now, let's start speculating about next year's tech war between Dune and Wicked...
Billie Eilish youngest 2 time winner and has a 100% win rate ❤️. I’m hoping she goes for that EGOT she only needs the Emmy and Tony. She could definitely do it since she specializes in music ❤️❤️
Please mention in your next video the following; on one ABC pre Oscar segment, one of the movie reporters went out of the way to remind (or tell viewers for the first time) that if a nominee (Lilli Gladstone) gets less than 50% of the vote, even tho the nominee has the MOST VOTES (and you would think would be the winner), the actual winner is the nominee (Stone) mentioned HIGHEST #2 on all ballots.
Im glad emma stone won. Lily Gladstone is not a lead in killers of the flower moon. She would have won if she put herself in the supporting actress category
I'm so glad I stood my ground with Godzilla , War is Over and also. I was so back and forth on them until the last hour before I played in a couple of awards pool. But I didn't change my other picks I couldn't decide for Henry Sugar and Last Repair Shop. Bummer Lily didn't win, but it was really going to be 50/50 between Emma and her. lookin back at it now the best animation film category was such a tug of war between spider verse and the boy and the heron. id argue and say both movies are instant classics.
I missed a lot overall but I’m proud to have gotten Boy in the Heron sight unseen, it’s just like VFX a while back when everyone thought infinity had it and Oscar was like Actually first man I’m not into superheroes tbh
Zone of Interest winning Sound was the highlight of the night! And gives you a ton of confidence that the Academy 'listened' to the films. I also LOVED Jonathan Glazer's speech.
Films released too late suffered. The Zone of Interest had buzz since it premiered in Cannes. Poor Things was in Venice, so they were safe. Color Purple and The Iron Claw suffered because they were released late and had no film festival screenings prior. Netflix bombed this season.
Go with your gut, is the lesson I’ve learned from this year. I got 19 out of 23 right (only missed animated feature, visual effects, makeup, and animated short)
@@seankoontz4235 I got 20/23. Missed makeup, i picked Barbie for an additional tech over poor things in production design but glad I didn’t go two for two on that, and then I was really on the Lily train.
Well I am one of the VERY few who wanted Giamatti to win over Cillian Murphy. While I thought Cillian did well, I think this Giamatti best role and he sells that character incredibly well. Maybe it's because Holdovers was my favorite movie of the nominees but I just loved his snark, vulnerability and commitment. Heck I even enjoyed Jeffrey Wright more than Cillian but that's just me.
Gosh, the Giamatti stans.... He has done this role 563 times, it is time for new roles. Murphy is one of the BEST wins in the category, hope your basic taste improves. And what do yo mean by "even"?! Wright has better body of work than all the nominees combined, his work in Westworld and in Angels in America is out if this world.
I think Spider-verse did get a lot of love, but a few things hurt it for taking the gold, those being: - a release in June, which eventually its hype died down - being a part one of a sequel, a lot of people hated that - the allegations about the poor working conditiona of the animators The Boy and the Heron not only came out right on time for fall festivals and a December release, it also helped that: - Its win in Best Animated Film at the BAFTAs and Golden Globes were known and seen by many people, including Oscar voters. Even though neither producer or director of the film was there to take the award, the moment was there. Spider-verse only televised win was through Critics Choice and it was barely mentioned through the commercials, creating almost no hype. - The film broke box office records for a Ghibli, hand drawn, anime and PG-13 film. An anime doesn't make 46 million just like that, so it was very popular - GKIDS right campaigning with the English dub and also it's widest release helped. - This being Miyazaki's most likely last film, as there are many explanations and similitudes to his personal life in the film, might have compelled voters to vote for it - The film was a lot more popular with international bodies, even many international websites were predicting it to win. The Boy and the Heron taking the Oscar is historic and important on its own. A first time win for an adult animated film, and a long overdue one for another hand drawn film and international title. It had almost every stat and chance against it and it still prevailed, I love this win!
I agree with the spiderverse points against it and boy and the heron coming out in the right time but: -Both suzume and the first slam dunk did better box office Ghibli isn't the only animation studio. -Miyazaki is working on another project, so the narrative that this is his last one could have played a big factor in it winning but is a false narrative. -The film is no more adult than last years Pinocchio, so I do not get that "adult animation" line.
@@thewackness95 Counterpoints: - Suzume and The First Slam Dunk did extremely well in Japan, but not in USA (Side note, in no world they would recognize Shinkai/First Slam Dunk over Miyazaki, who had been a three time nominee) - Of course Ghibli isn't the only animation studio, but the return of Ghibli made a lot of waves. It's also one of the few well known animation studios that isn't in USA - Probably a false narrative, but also contribute the fact that Miyazaki is 83 years old. How much longer is he going to live? Of course he could make another film, but it takes a long time and this is considered his last film by many because of the similarities with his own life and it's ending - GDT Pinocchio is dark, sure, but it's still PG like most winners in the category. Even Netflix labels Pinocchio as a "kids movie" even thought it's not. The Boy and the Heron, on the other hand, is rated PG-13, and was the first animated film to win the Oscar with that rating.
@MundoJuanci Miyazaki is a legend, but your name shouldn't automatically get you the award. It's that backwards thinking that causes things like only one non-ghibli anime ever being nominated. Animation deserves better than here's a legacy award, especially when he has a legacy award. Also, suzume is a better animated film, across spiderverse and tnmt are better creative films when it comes to the medium, and I just like nimona, more so if he does make another film, hopefully ppl judge it on its own merits not on the name on the poster.
@@thewackness95 Me and plenty of people disagree with you 100% Should they give Shinkai because of his name recognition? Because in no aspect Suzume is a better film

Good day to be a Poor Things fan!
I love this better than Barbie
Great job this entire awards season, guys! Looking forward to the early predictions because there are always a bunch that I'm not aware of yet, so it gives me a list of films to look forward to.
The way I’ve been watching yall since 2019 and still come back every year
RIP for killers of the flower moon with 10 nominations and no wins...
🥲
Just like The Irishman 4 years ago
Another Scorsese movie
It's his third film that lost with 10 nominations, including "Gangs of New York" (2002).
Tuck it in!
The Academy always seems to weirdly disrespect Scorcese despite him being the greatest living director. Is it because he doesn't prefer to campaign as hard as the others?
The way I thought the thumbnail saying baftas was a mistake until i realised 😂
I can’t believe Madame Web was referenced twice during the Oscars 😂
I’m expecting that film to be nominated for A LOT of Razzies.
I saw it, I don’t think it’s quite the train wreck people make it out to be but the plot development was weak and the villain was terrible
Its like how Cats were referenced before
when Poor things won makeup I knew Lily was in trouble. There's been a strong correlation between makeup and acting in the last few years, The Whale-Frasier, Tammy Faye-Chastain, an others I don't remember.
But Emma Stone was not the classic make up acting that always win.
Willem Dafoe wore the most extensive makeup in Poor Things and didn’t get an acting nomination
@@pb.j.1753 that's not the point, all I say is that there's been a recent history correlation between the makeup winner and lead actors winners. it doesn't matter how much makeup they're wearing or their merit (on either category)
Same, when they won i knew that lily was not winning
Iron Lady -Streep, Darkest Hour-Oldman La Vie en Rose-Cotilleard
At this rate, wannabee Best Actress winners should seek out Yorgos because this is his specialty.
Showcases the ladies and isn’t a piglet on set.
I think more people featured in Woody Allen films have won Oscars than any other director.
Not only that, but they were both upsets. Emma Stone less so but still, most pundits were predicting Lily
@@seankoontz4235 Not sure why they were predicting Lily. Lily was category fraud.
Wish I had found you guys sooner, but I’m glad to see this now! Your In Memoriam section was perfection though 👏🏽😂
Critics Choice looking like clowns with their record 18 nominations for Barbie which went on to win nothing but Song at the Oscars lol
Barbie was a damn good movie. And it got 18 because it had 3 songs nominated. Which was deserved
Prime example of recency bias for barbie

Early prediction video is good. Even if you are not interested in awards it's helpful to know which interesting movies are coming in the next couple of month.
Poor Things for Makeup was never a surprise
If BAFTA Makeup winner is nominated for an Oscar, it never loses (until "Elvis" last year)
They should have nominated "the Last Voyage of the Demeter." Maybe next year they'll nominate "Nosferatu."
Where you've been?)
@@bryanismyname7583 Agreed but the Academy has been sort of very anti horror genre recently are snubbing horror movies left and right.
Rough year for Cole's predictions 😂
He was way off the whole year.
Knowing this channel since 2017, this is his worst year yet. If you see why it's because he understimated Bafta and international voters. Poor Things overperformed and they had it winning zero Oscars, he missed 4 right there.
Except for the best picture. We all know it would happen
Last minute predictions were a disaster.
I knew the second Poor Things won those design awards that Emma had it in the bag haha
Poor things won 3 awards in a roll. Lily Gladstone fans of twitter started panicking. Lol
Thanks to you both! Great content guys and great app Brother Bro!!
Second time the lead actress from a Lanthimos film gets Best Actress!! So so happy Emma Stone is now a two times Oscar Winner !
@@98LucasFG Yeah watch for Jolie. Supposedly his new film is going to be less controversial and more accessible... could help her.
@@joser1853 it’s already confirmed that is coming out for this next awards season?
@@98LucasFG Yup it is.
Congrats!
You thought Poor Things was going to go home empty-handed, how delusional!
The moment I stopped considering them as experts.
@@manantial773 Tbh, they are usually good but don't know what they were smoking this year. They were super off.
I was really happy with The Zone Of Interest winning in sound 🥺🥺🥺
Love the app brother bro keep it up! Fun year
I'm so obsessed how Al Pacino announced the winner, it couldn't have been more anti climatic than it actually is. Bro came to the stage, say a few words in a drunken way, didn't bother to introduce the nominees first, opened the envelope, "My eyes see Oppenheimer", music started as he was about the say the producer's name, and he said "What happened?"
My god, I love that man 😂😂
It’s fine cause we all knew anyways. He just got straight to the point and let us go home early
He deserves an additional Oscar for the best short subject for making the show shorter
I guess he was sleepy
It's similar to the Best Original Song category announcement, where they also announced the winner right away, since each of the Picture and Original Song nominee was mentioned throughout the show like an individual Best Picture nominee clip and an Original Song performance.
Let him host!!
He is old, leave him alone.
@@ClassicalMusic2002Everything you just said....plus Heron was better than Spider lol
I think the main reason Spiderverse lost is because the Academy doesn’t like to award animated sequels unless it’s Toy Story.
Once again it was proven that if an animated feature wins BAFTA and loses Annie award, it never loses OSCAR
これで「BAFTA受賞しアニー賞受賞しなかった作品はすべてアカデミー賞をとる」というジンクスは守られた
Producer Toshio Suzuki just revealed at a press conference that even though Hayao Miyazaki was pretending he did not care about the awards, he was waiting at his atelier the good news, Ghibli staff was watching the show and started to clap as soon as they heard the "The" of "The Boy and the Heron", And Suzuki ordered 3 Oscar statue for himself, Miyazaki, and to show off.
Everyone do not forget that today is March 11th, 13 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake.

The sound was so important for the overall feeling of the movie and played an integral part in it. It had to win imo.
In the same way, "Son of Saul" should have been nominated

I had the same reaction to yours when the Sound design was awarded and for Godzilla's win. So so happy for them!
The actor Cillian Murphy won an Oscar today... he also played a villain called Scarecrow in a few Batman movies... I guess you could say he's "out-standing in his field" 😂
😂😂😂 This is great
I think this is the worst year for the Oscar expert and brother bro.
Spider verse was better in visuals but I can see why they picked it.
In a normal year I would’ve been really happy for Miyazaki win, but Across the Spiderverse was such an historic animated film and was definitely worthy of a best picture nom as well as an animated feature win

Your neighbours must sound proof their house for awards season every year like it's the goddamn Purge
Yorgos Lanthimos has directed two Best Actress Oscar winners
• Olivia Colman (The Favourite, 2018)
• Emma Stone (Poor Things, 2023)
These set of winners confirm what I have suspected all along: The winners are determined by the final voting dates. Last year, the voting for final winners began AFTER SAG (which is why they agreed last year), while this year the voting occurred one week earlier (right after BAFTA) with SAG being in-between.
I know the season was long but it would be cool to get a longer video analysing what happened in depth
So how do we like Madame Web's chances for next year?
Close to 0

My favorite win of the night was for Cord Jefferson. American Fiction barily had a month to finish filming the movie, it barily had a 10 million dollar budget. Despite all it's challenges, it still won the People's Choice award at the Telluride Festival. It also wins every precursor imaginable : Critic's Choice, Bafta, Independent Spirit, Scripter awards. Hence, I was confused as to why people thought Oppenheimer was going to win in this category ( and Barbie never stood a chance at winning).
Cord Jefferson also had one of the most important and best speeches of the evening. I really hope it inspired upcoming filmmakers and

Honestly, once the dust is settled, we all will remember these Oscars as the "Ones who could have been done by e-mail." Everyone who was tipped as the winner, won and even in the tight races (like Actress), it was one of the two hot favourites. Most surprises came from the nominations (Cough Robbie and Gerwig out Cough) and some late comers to the race like American Fiction and Godzilla Minus One, but it was mostly what you and other experts said.

guys thanks for all these videos; truly a blast
I think Spider-verse did get a lot of love, but a few things hurt it for taking the gold, those being:
- a release in June, which eventually its hype died down
- being a part one of a sequel, a lot of people hated that
- the allegations about the poor working conditiona of the animators
The Boy and the Heron not only came out right on time for fall festivals and a December release, it also helped that:
- Its win in Best Animated Film at the BAFTAs and Golden Globes were known and seen by many people, including Oscar voters.
An anime doesn't make 46 million just like that, so it was very popular
- GKIDS right campaigning with the English dub and also it's widest release helped.
- This being Miyazaki's most likely last film, as there are many explanations and similitudes to his personal life in the film, might have compelled voters to vote for it
- The film was a lot more popular with international bodies, even many international websites were predicting it to win.
The Boy and the Heron taking the Oscar is historic and important on its own. A first time win for an adult animated film, and a long overdue one for another hand drawn film and international title.
It had almost every stat and chance against it and it still prevailed, I love this win!
I agree with the spiderverse points against it and boy and the heron coming out in the right time but:
-Both suzume and the first slam dunk did better box office
Ghibli isn't the only animation studio.
-Miyazaki is working on another project, so the narrative that this is his last one could have played a big factor in it winning but is a false narrative.
-The film is no more adult than last years Pinocchio, so I do not get that "adult animation" line.
@@thewackness95
Counterpoints:
- Suzume and The First Slam Dunk did extremely well in Japan, but not in USA (Side note, in no world they would recognize Shinkai/First Slam Dunk over Miyazaki, who had been a three time nominee)
- Of course Ghibli isn't the only animation studio, but the return of Ghibli made a lot of waves. It's also one of the few well known animation studios that isn't in USA
- Probably a false narrative, but also contribute the fact that Miyazaki is 83 years old. How much longer is he going to live?
Of course he could make another film, but it takes a long time and this is considered his last film by many because of the similarities with his own life and it's ending
- GDT Pinocchio is dark, sure, but it's still PG like most winners in the category.
@@thewackness95 Me and plenty of people disagree with you 100%
Should they give Shinkai because of his name recognition? Because in no aspect Suzume is a better film
@@MundoJuanci it's been a month, arts subjectives, you and your "plenty" of others can go comment your opinion on other videos.
Love your channel and your predictions all year! I still the Academy is very much into prosthetics and totally changing your appearance - look at The Whale last year and even Golda's nomination this year. However, I just feel that Maestro did not win because it was not a well-liked movie whereas Poor Things was.
Did I miss something but are they not doing monthly updates on Oscar predictions for 2025?
