- I picked up a 2004 Husqvarna 55 recently and after finally getting it all put together, it’s ready for a run. How does it stack up to my 2010 455 Rancher? Let’s find out.

Nice. I love my 55’s
I run a 55 with the 20 inch. .325 RSC chain is what it needs. Mine will out-cut what yours did by a long way
i also have a 55 older i also run a .325 chain and cuts 2/3 times faster and a 20 in bar
I have a 50 55 and a 266 xp,
Youre Saws seem too be slow, there is something wrong .
It sounds like the 55 has a air leak, spray carb cleaner on side near the crank seals if it revs up it’s leaking. Can burn up the saw if keep on running it that way.
I bought a brand new 55 and I love that sawI still have it and
soetimes I use it. I also have a 450. It's a good saw. But it broke down on me and I had it fixed. The 55 is more reliable.
I have a 55 since 2000
I had 3 455's
Great video, glad to see the comparison as well! *side note - Only thing I don't get is when people crank a chainsaw up they immediately rev it up. If the saw is running right and tuned correctly it should idle no problem, you shouldn't have to rev it to keep it going. Second, with any engine, they should be allowed a short time to gradually heat up not instantly go from cold to hot.
I agree and I do tend to let them idle for a bit before using them. This video has some editing for time so that’s not really shown and it was when I was first really getting into saws. If I made that video today, a few things would be different. Sadly, both saws have been sold.
@@theprofessionalamerican /salute, doing great, hope you keep it up!
The biggest difference between the two is the 455 is a clamshell design and the 55 is a split magnesium case.
The 55 is probably the easiest saw I ever worked on.
It was super easy to work on!
@@theprofessionalamerican best all around saw
I am still running 55s. Got my original saw I got at age 10 back in 1998 made in Sweden and another one I bought around 2012 built in Brazil. I always keep two identical saws for convenience and spares. Both running perfectly. What I need on my small farm. Been using plenty of other Huskys growing up on the family farm. Favorite was the 346 XP. Usually running 13" bars for 90% of the time but got 15", 18" and 20". I do not get the reason for long bars when you do not need it. You americans sure like long bars...
Different tools for different jobs. Most homeowners don’t need anything more than a 16”-18” to be honest. I’ve now had to deal with enough trees/logs that require me to use a 24” or larger bar so I run a 24” on my 372. This also allows me to buck standing up which is safer.
@@theprofessionalamerican exactly, right tool for the job.
I always kind of laugh at people tho think 455's are great saws.
Glad you got a chuckle
$100 is about the going rate for one in that shape not running. eBay is consistent with that.
Originally the Rancher 55 had an 18 inch bar.
I think the 55 with an 18” bar is just right, but depending on pitch, there were some 55s with 20” bars.
I personally like mine with a 16” .325 .050 and an 8 pin sprocket. Just personal preference. I keep the chains on point though few licks every fill up.
I dunno, that 55 doesnt seem like its running right. My 55 is old and beat up, but does not struggle like that one does. Wondering exactly what piston/ cylinder that kid used? I'm guessing it wasnt OEM. I'd take the 55 any day, simply because injection molded plastic crank cases give me hives.
Just to be fair. The 55 will run for decades and the 455 will not.
The 55 is a magnesium case saw. Your 455 is a clam shell. Somebody else pointed it out. The 55 will run for ever and the 455 is a run till done and pitch. Watch the tinman and tune your carbs. He's a good friend of bucking.
im hesitant to say this is a true comparison since i doubt the kid put in oem or decent aftermarket parts. it sounds like the 55 is low on power compared to mine but i dont have anyway of comparing with the same type of wood.
Either way oem or aftermarket cylinder it’s not broken in yet. I wouldn’t trade that 55 for the 455 . Those 55 saws are very durable and dependable.
what did you sharpen that chain with? rocks?
Yes, that is actually my preferred method of sharpening.
My back is hurting just from watching the first two cuts 😂..dull as f…
@@karlsborgwi.jewell9919, you’re right. Super dull.
The 55 was suppose to have a .325 chain not a 3/8. Carb Adjustment on both saw seems to be off. The 55 was too rich and the 455 was too lean. But the 455 is suppose to be a better saw and that's why it replaced the 55 style saws.
55s are better made
Yes and no. Some 55’s like the 55 Rancher came with a 3/8” chain on a 18” bar. But the vast majority of the 50’ 51 and 55’s had 325 chains.
The 455 has the junk vanguard style folded over raker chain worst ever made!
Thanks man. Great comparison.
Do you think husqvarna makes the best saws?
I’m thinking of sellin my old echo, along with my gas lawn gear, to go electric just for simplicity of my small piece of earth.
Husqvarna and Stihl are the top of the market, in my opinion. Echo makes some good saws as well, and to be honest, so long as you’re not buying Poulan, take care of it, and know your limits, then they’re all good.
I have Ego electric weedwacker, hedge trimmer, leaf blower, and push mower for my property. If I had larger land, I wouldn’t have them and I’d stick with gas. Electric has their place but I’ll never do a full change over.
My uncle worked in the forest all his life as a logger and he drove nothing but Husqvarna for the only saw that could keep up with him 😊
@@GripperCc thanks!
I think if you try the jhonsred u wood be amazed
@@GripperCc back in the day all pro. loggers used husky
Well they both sound like there struggling.
You really shouldnt be doing videos about chainsaws, the 55 was quite obviously tuned wrong and running terrible. The 455 is a clam shell design ( home owner saw) where the 55 is a smaller version of the pro saws Husqvarna builds.
The 455 was built for guys like you...
Again you really have no business rating saws.
I appreciate that you watched and commented. Means a lot. Next time I need a true authority on saws, you will be the first and only person I contact.
Oh shut up already wth, who do you think you are, the chainsaw Gestapo? What a pathetic comment. People don't have to be experts in anything they make a video of, if you don't enjoy someone's personal journey into new things, DON"T WATCH IT! Guy clearly said he was getting into things.
Nineteen minutes you’ll never get back..
Thanks!
what rubbish
Thanks!
