I just performed service on my Showa forks and followed the instructions of this video. Awesome video. Thanks. Took my time, cleaned and, inspected thoroughly and, watched the video, over and over. All in, I was about 3 hours. Totally worth it. Thanks again!
What an organized, concise tutorial, very much appreciated and you have greatly boosted me my confidence in takin on this job. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Thanks so much for creating and sharing all these awesome videos with us!!!!!!!!!! :) Very Much Appreciated!!! Love having the links to the tools in the description too!!!
Great in depth detail. I want to know like how can we know which model forks are installed as i bought the bike from someone, and that person had installed these honda crf forks aftermarket. I am not able to ascertain the model year, and because of that i have not been able to order part for these forks
12:23 Amazing instructional video. I have a problem, however. Whenever I get to the point at the end when I am resetting the rebound clicker, the clicker itself does not move. Does the rebound clicker get automatically tightened (thus not allowing it to move when you are ready to adjust your clicker) when you torque the rebound adjusting nut?
Rm can you pls tell people to check the owners manual because I'm working on the same front forks and my forks take 50ml more oil so I have to take my forks back apart and fill em more
Hey there. I just bought a 2014 CRF 450R and the forks have an mcr A kit inners. I am wondering if this is the same as th Showa fork inners and if replacing the seals are similar or the same procedures. Never had these types of forks before and need help maintaining these. Thank you.
I teach motorcycle repair at a technical high school. My students better not spray any aerosol cleaners into the same pan where we drained the oil into, because it contaminates the oil to the point where it cannot be hauled off for recycling. Just a note for folks that must recycle oils. Bill Ross - Region 10 Technical High School - Brunswick, Maine
Haven't heard that one before. Oil recyclers just ask that you don't dump a ton of antifreeze into the waste oil. Matt - auto mechanic 9 years, Wisconsin.
Great video guys Can you specify which types of seal grease do you guys prefer , as I am indian and racetech grease is far-off my grasp. Please specify NLGI 1,2,3 WHICH IS SUITABLE ,and is silicone grease or lithium or regular grease will work without causing leaks
I’m not understanding why oil has to go into the damper... I’m sure I’m wrong but it seems like that would make to much oil in the forks when you put the recommended amount of oil back into the fork. Or do you subtract a certain amount of oil from the end amount of what you put in the damper?
I would say it depends on how long it's been since you changed your seals and oil, if you've got around 20-30 hours on your forks, then it's a good idea to do a full service anyway. But if you have less than that, then yeah, I would only worry about the one fork seal. - Chase
I am trying to get the cap assembly back into the damper but I simply cannot get the threads to engage. I’ve done everything by the book but it’s as though it is not inserting completely. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?
Hi, yeah it can be tricky. Double check the oil level and make sure it's not to high. Then, push the damping rod up as far as you can without spilling any oil out. Then insert the cap assembly, push down and thread in. This can help minimize any air that you would have to compress. Other than that, sometimes people install stiffer springs in that cap that can make it harder to push in. -Charles
Hi guys. When i put the damper unit all the way down on the piston i hear air in the upper unit and oil is coming out of the two holes and the piston rod do not moving the last 1,5 " . And when i put in the damper valve unit earlier into the piston i hear air coming throug the seals i think. Can you help me ?
The Tusk push rod holder was to big to hold the rod holder from interfering with the lock nut. A strap works if you run into this to hold the push rod out so you can loosen or tighten it.
I have the 2020 Tiger 900 Rally Pro which has a Showa fork, but I can’t figure out which video would work for this fork or any literature on how to rebuild it at home. Any recommendations?
I just finished rebuilding my dual chamber showa forks and have pretty much no compression in them I'm not sure what is going on I would greatly appreciate any info
I followed every step but why when i put them on my bike, and compress them they dont go back up easily i gotta pick the bike up for them to go back to fully expanded
You most likely have air in your inner chambers. Did you do the test and make sure the compression rod fully extends on its own before putting them back together?
@@rmatvmc hey guys, I’m having a similar issue. I put the 195ml into the dampener chamber, pumped the air out, put the assembly back in, tightened it down and the rebound test doesn’t work. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.
@@mctudor2010 I was having the same issue. I did it several times with the same results. Ultimately I just added a little more oil than the spec calls for and then was able to get full extension. I figured the extra oil just gets purged anyway.

Could I re-use my new fork and dust seals that I replaced a few months ago if I need to change bushings now?
If I am just trying to replace to fork seals do I have to take the damper apart?
You need to remove the inner cartridge to get your inner and outer tubes apart, but no, you don't have to disassemble the damper.

How would you torque down the fork cap on the top?
Some specialty wrenches have a cut out for a torque wrench. Just snug it, all this torqueing of shit is a bit excessive.
How much oil in that suspension???
382ml in these forks. You can see this step at 12:05 in this video.

195ml of oil goes into the damper (7:18 in this video).
