This is a video tutorial on how to create music for vlogs for free with your iPad or iPhone. This how-to uses the free app called GarageBand, its included loops and sounds, and requires no previous music knowledge. You can make royalty-free, copyright-free music in minutes. You can even monetize on it! This is a tutorial for beginners and also for musicians who haven't tried out the GarageBand Live Loops feature on iPads. This is the start to finish video to actually create a song you can use! This tutorial uses Peter McKinnon's vlog music as a guide. Visit his channel to check out his awesome cinematography!
I've used music created with GarageBand on my iPad in many of my past vlogs. You can check them out on this channel: ua-cam.com/users/SanjayC?sub_co...

This video causes me to see another part of garage band, I never knew all this information was out there I was looking around to use other people’s music, but thanks a billion I can use this.
Watching this one again and it still really stands up. Wonderful production values. Great work Sanjay. This was a great gateway for me to your channels and videos.
Thanks, Pete! I just realized that I've watched your videos before a while back! Subbed! ;-)
Purchased iPad Pro a few weeks ago... this video was SO helpful. Friend of mine making excersise videos for the disabled and I'm making beats for her videos!!
That's awesome! So glad to hear my video helped! :-D And for a good purpose too. ❤️️
That’s how I feel! I’m excited! Be on e look out! Loved the intro
A very cool and simple tutorial. Great work my friend. More proof that GarageBand can be used for any music application you need. 👍
Thanks Pete!! 😃
Brilliant intro to using loops. Thank you. Subbed. 🙂
Thanks!! 😃
Very helpful, thank you.
Great video. Thank you for the clear instruction. Nice track too.
Excellent tutorial - has helped my understanding of GB to be a lot better. I can approach my experiments with composing in a more organised way now. Many thanks!

Aw thanks, Marissa! :-)
Finally some instructions that make sense, you rock dude
😎
SAME!
No that's not Rock. Because rock is good music.
Couldn’t agree more.
Nice of you to say
Hey dude. Just started thinking about making music with Garage Band to accompany my videography and this came in really handy! Thanks a lot and keep up the good work :)
Thank you! That was great. I’m going to use this to kick start my musical attempt to finally fathom garage band!
Love to hear that!
omg. you just gave me a tool to keep going. thank you!!!
Awesome! We can’t stop!
Awesome dude I have been searching for weeks trying to figure out how to move the beats to different cells, thanx u r da man !!!
Glad you found it useful! :-)
Thank you soooo... much. I would have never figured out how to play, let alone record the sequence that I created. I have been using Daws since Cakewalk was on dos (ie.Command prompt). And none of them work like this. You usually add the loop in the position (time) in the song where you want it to play, rewind the song to the beginning and press play. The mind of the developer who created the GarageBand way is Special. Thanks for being the medicine for my headache.
Amazing! Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Thank you! I have do te same thing now! Its beeing so gooood
:-D Thanks!
Perfect Bro! Excellent begining to use
BRO THANK YOU SO MUCH I REALLY APPRECIATE IT! I can make songs easily now! Shoutout to you!

Great intro for a complete beginner. Glossed over some major stuff (how did the melody get recorded and into the loop). Still very informative.

Hi man !! Good video !! Is it possible to use a Octapad SPD-30 (MIDI) as a controller with Garageband ? ...Thanks you.
Great beginners guide! The only thing is your hands covered some of what you were doing so some of it I had to work out, but that in itself helped me to work out bits for myself and that helped me learn and experiment. Appreciated. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Noted!
I really like this beat, thank you
Brilliant introduction to Live Loops! I've been using GB for a few years but have struggled to put together music that sounds like real music. This looks promising! Am I right in thinking that “trial and error” is the way to find those specific loops, etc?
You are amazing!
Thanks! I've just started learning GarageBand and found your video. Nice one, very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
sounds great !
Thank you!
Thank you so much ❤️

Hi can we add two loops and create a new loop of our own and save , where we can use that newly created loop
Wow, very helpful video. I opened GarageBand expecting it to be like a typical daw with a linear timeline and i was like "nope, not today". This makes sense to me now.
“How to have fun with looped sounds in Garageband for iPad”
Yes...FUN! Music is FUN!
This was amazingly helpful man! I've been recently trying to make background music for my videos and this is so fast and easy! I don't have an iPad though... how would I access loops on Garageband on my Mac?
Great question. Unfortunately, GarageBand on Mac doesn’t have the Live Loops view. They do have some loops, but you can’t trigger them in a grid. :-( hate that.
Ah bummer :( I guess I'd have to hack it together by exporting the loops and using them in Session View in Ableton somehow. Still managed to make awesome background music for my videos though so this was still super helpful!
What did you use? Garageband on Mac?
Sanjay C yeah, it's a lot clunker without that live loop view but the loops that are included in GarageBand are great, you can get something that sounds really good in no time at all
Thanks a lot man
Happy to help
Super cool bro!!
Thanks 🔥
Sanjay C been watching your videos on audio interfaces and would like your opinion. I ordered the focus right 2i2 and been looking at the DAW. Which you think Is easiest and best? I will be trying to record drums, bass and a guitar. Thanks for your videos and positive vibes.
Good content & insight! Which camera did you use when you're talking to the camera? Was it your Panasonic 4K or the Canon? Also... I was looking at the Panasonic Lumix GX85 4K ($550). Do you think this would be a good buy? BTW.... your wife crawling up the stairs in the background was hilarious LOLOL!!!!
I used the Pana G85 for those shots with the Pana 20mm lens. $550 is a good deal.
Can u give me guidance how to connect ipad 7th gen to Scarlett solo 3rd gen?
What makes few people to dislike such valuable videos.... Damn! Great stuff bro.... Learnt a lot.... Thanks a tonne...
I appreciate that man!
THANK YOU!!!!
You're welcome!
Thanks mate, I’ve had garage band for years, and learned more in 5 minutes than I’ve learned in the last 5 years, thanks man
Thank you Steve! Nice compliment!
Hi Sanjay, found your channel a couple of weeks ago and subscribed straight away :-) just found this one ,man you are SO creative it makes me feel like an “old stick in the mud” if you know what I mean :-) .wish you lots of luck in all you do ,bye and take care now
Hey Brian...you can do it too. Glad you found my channel. :-D
Hi Sanjay! I love your tutorial… its straight to the point! Great! Just one question: I've just clicked a small song together, but Garageband only plays the first column of the loops and doesn't automatically jump to columns 2 and 3 afterwards. How can I play the whole song in one piece?
You need to record it as a whole song. Its in the last few steps in my video. Its the record button up top. Hit that and then you'll need to trigger the clips or columns as it records and it'll record it as a full song. THen you can export it.
Sanjay C great! Thanks for your help!
Life saver😇
Thanks!
thank you so much
!!!
You're welcome! :-)
I subbed because of this!
Thank you!
Thank YOU!!! I followed along with my iPad Pro and now kicking myself in the butt for not realizing that what I’ve been paying for was in the power of my own hands the whole time! Time to edit all of my international travel vlogs now!
Cool video, thanks. Is it possible to record a bass line while playing along to an original song as the backing track from my iTunes library. If so, how is this done? Cheers. Niall
Not easy to do. You’ll have to first record that song and then import it manually through iTunes (on desktop). But it is possible.
Thak you so much I was brainstorming hitting walls and I almost gave up thank you 🙏
Glad to hear that I could help
This was posted three years ago, but it helped me alot more than other videos!!
Wow thanks!
Beautiful music and video,son!
Thank you!
cool !!
Thanks!
Nice job compressing the information. So many painfully long tutorials out there. Very creative and informative and fun surprises.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much
You’re welcome! 👍🏼
Thanks
You're welcome
Good crash course!
Thank you Alan Sommerville!
We've been importing that project into Logix Pro X to really make it punch as well. Have you done that? Great video by the way!
I've actually imported my iOS projects into Garageband on Mac. And taken them to the "next level!"
Holy shit, I can make music! Thanks for the tutorial. I finally managed to make a listenable thing.
Awesome to hear that! Keep it coming!
Do you register your music? I’m afraid someday can steal it
Hello there kind Sir. You have a tremendously informative channel and I'm a fan of your work. I just wanted to ask if the iPad Pro 2020 variant will be enough for music production as opposed to the 512GB variant? I mean, with the idea of transferring files to and from external drives won't have problems with both, do I really have to have the bigger GB variant or it will actually matter along the way?
I think the iPad Pro is a great choice. But you can still do a lot with a regular iPad too
@@SanjayC Thank you for the response. With regards to the music production alone in the iPad Pro 2020, do I have to get the 512GB or the 256GB instead or all storage concepts have been swept away by inserting USB C SSD nowadays?
Bro can u tell me what ipad needs to download this app or its available for all ipads?
I suggest getting an iPad which has force touch. That will give you more features with GarageBand.
How can I download the app sir? I have tried the website link but got lost! Can u help please.....
3 years ago. But still helpful. Love from India 🌹🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
I’m finally excited about the music classes in school when we need to use iPads and GarageBand
Thank you
You're welcome. You can do so much with an iPad and Garageband these days.
Hi what is the cords/notes for the shimmering bells
Do you know how to change it so the loops for your song are more on a timeline going sideways than a circle?
First you need to record (hit the record button and trigger the loops) and then switch the view - there's a button at the top to switch it.
How do u make the piano part
