Twenty years ago, I listened to Number Girl alone in a suburb of Japan. Now, I can share my feelings about them with people all over the world. It's a great happiness for me.
FINALLY! A video covering Number Girl, they were a random UA-cam find for me, but the guitar tone was the best thing I’d heard in actual years. Quickly become one of my F A V E
Came across Number Girl by random on UA-cam one day, and I had to click anything called "School Girl Distortional Addict" out of sheer curiosity. Phenomenal band, I would also recommend all the stuff both Mukai and Tabuchi have done after Number Girl.
wow just saw this.. at first.. started my channel to promote these guys around the globe... it was such a different sound. i could go on for ages.. thanks again for making this... edit: dave worked with em since the destruction baby E.P., made before s.g.d.a.
Number Girl is not The Pixies of Japan. Number Girl is the Number Girl of the world and you're right Tabuchi became a powerhouse on the scene playing with the biggest names including Shiina Ringo and cited as the most influential alt-rock guitarist quite some times.
This is one of the best informative videos on bands that I've seen made on UA-cam. I enjoy the style of the video a lot! And as a fan also of At The Drive-in and ART-SCHOOL it was a nice surprise to hear them mentioned here!! Im interested in your radio program that you mentioned, so i'll be checking that out! NUMBER GIRL will be always really special!!
One of the best gifts the algorithm graced upon me was their final song of their final performance in 2002. This is the comment I made on that video. "I feel the emotion, I feel the unity and this random offering from the almighty algorithm is one of the best I've ever eaten and I want seconds. This is fantastic. The singer is incredible. Goes in and out of scream and overall makes me want to listen to Pixies, smoke a pack of cigs, half a pound of trees and remind me how fucking lucky I am to have a life on this earth."

Num heavy metallic album is the lead reason why nakao - bassist leave the band, becs mukai want to do experiment with new sound, hiphop/rap/traditional japan sound. Which leading mukai full time into his solo project - Zazen Boys. If nakao agreed about that experiment stuff we probably hear a new album from them tho.
To anyone that thinks the pixies were totally original I suggest you listen to she’s like heroin to me and sleeping in blood city by the Gun club. And remember this band came before the pixies.
Stop spreading misinformation, there are thousands of spectacular indie bands and number girl is just one of them, not nice calling them Pixies of Japan for the views, also as pixies was the only band to mention, what about Husker du, polvo, unwound, bitch magnet, pavement, archers of loaf and so on and so on, instead of talking half of the video about pixies you could have actually talked about Number Girl.
I mean like without Pixies there would have been no Number Girl, but Number Girl is sooooo much better than Pixies lol. NG is way up there
Oof, I love Number Girl as much as anyone else here, but better than the Pixies? That's a bit of a stretch.

Very influenced by, but different. I saw them in Tokyo on their Seppukei tour. Loud as hell and fun. Zazen Boys is also fantastic.
I think they're more Japan's Husker Du.
Well, they got a song named "Pixie Dü" after all
@@Aurichu Damn now that you mention it. That makes so much sense.
what we know from song titles: mukai loves iggy pop, pixies, and husker du LOOOOL
