I'm only 8 minutes in and already this woman speaks to me; I drew very well throughout school for someone my age at the time, and I was labeled "creative." Once I got to college and started learning graphic design, I was fortunate enough to see truly creative designs and art pieces, ones I never could've thought of in a thousand years, and I just deflated. I don't see myself as nearly as creative as everyone used to say I was. Now when I say "I'm the creative one," it feels like a lie. I already have some faith that the rest of this video can help rectify that.

As a co-founder of a design studio in Guimarães ("the city where Portugal was born"), I can totally relate to what was said on the conversation. The idea of taking "yes, and ..." as a thought and attitude is fabulous and makes perfect sense. Excellent work Joana and "The Futur" team. No doubt I will use the knowledge I have absorbed here to improve my/our process. Abraço de Braga!
Hi Joana, you're welcome! @812CREATIVEDESIGN :) We focus on product design and branding, but we try to assume design as a multidisciplinary strategic tool that improve business. You have done a great job at Gif! You must visit the city and say hello to us! :D
Great episode. I like when Mark is on the show. He is very on point with questions and comments and of course humour. Thanks The Futur for of course helping us build Our Futur!
Hola Joana Galvao The curvy road keeps you awake. For example, in the US most of the interested highway is straight roads and the effects of it are you can go sleep faster or the endless horizons make you tire. In Europe most of the road curves to keep you awake.

It drove my bosses crazy and I could never convince them I wasn't goofing off but focusing. It never took away from me following what the customer needed.

Oh my gosh!! "Yes, and..." was something that was taught to me by my high school theatre teacher (my dad), and has not only helped on stage, but has helped me in many areas of my life - especially creatively. Negation of one's ideas can be the perfectionist/ego taking control, but in order to be truly creative, we need to embrace and explore -- to almost exhaust the possibilities. I'm so happy to hear this phrase again, and can't be more of an enthusiast of this mindset. Great, great video!
I love that your dad was your theatre teacher and that it was him that taught you Yes and! Love how you put it "exhaust the possibilities" - that's what it's all about. So happy you liked it!
I think creativity is that thing we do that is not normal the the natural world, but have have the ability to communicate and solve problems. Or has has overall meaning that excites everyone
It's endless use once you've straighten the paperclip into the wire :). Just like a chopstick. The Ultimate Tool for Humanity! You can throw out all multitools, once there's a chopstick around
@21:36 > I have 3 dry erase markers placed strategically around my bathroom...and i use the tile surface to take notes...point being...you can just use the tiles as the surface! ceramic tiles... but it's a pain to transfer the notes as having a large canvas can result in having too many ideas...and very soon i just run out of space...and that's when the best ideas come :( ;p p.s. you can always click a picture and then erase it off
@@thefutur Yeah, I think I was getting good ideas by being isolated in the shower with my own thoughts, away from the obligation of "tracking work". Soon as I introduced something that was part of "work", it became another pressure environment. That was at an old apartment and I haven't installed one in the shower at new apts since, but I've worked more to remember good ideas and write them down later, or get them all out at once-like how Jay Z does his lyrics. I wrote/drew 2 entire issues of a comic book that way and that helped to build up that muscle for design work in remembering ideas that pop up during the day or on a crowded train when I can't get to a pen.
I am one in that boat that doesn't get it YET but I don't criticize you instead grateful for the forward thinking and trying hard to nail it as you do. My hold up is that then you sell on results and value BUT there aren't unlimited revisions involved either so not clear how the value part work when there might be revisions to get to the functional result. Again, I know is the ultimate goal and wish to stop failing in the puddle between if you know what I mean? all my fault but baby steps because its my ultimate goal to play it your way!
Love the video using it to solve some problems from all this talk I just realised I am stresses and not able to sleep how do u do it balance working hours and sleep Chris ?
Would you say creativity is like intelligence everyone has it but it's a scale from really creative to barely any? I doodle all the time and that has always worked well for me, another thing that works really well for me is looking past people and think about other things at the same time it's always improved my thinking whilst having a conversation with someone. Great video really interesting!!
Chris, I have a question, I saw your client list, pretty impressive, how do you approach those clients? I mean do you cold call, email, etc. or do they find you?
Is there a section on how to design the wonderful thumbnails? within the ASMR space, thumbnail design and video production are very weak. looking to improve this.
@@thefutur I guess I should preface by saying I work in my room sometimes. they are self adhesive sheets but I get a lot of ideas and it helps to just have them handy. sometimes the walls are full of lists of drawings or goals, when I'm not working. when I reread what I posted I thought that might sound strange "in my bedroom" lol
