  • The BYU Cougars are set to celebrate their 100th season as a football program 100 days from now and Jake Hatch says the pressure is on Kalani Sitake and the BYU football program to show that their Big 12 debut a season ago was an outlier and not a recurring theme for Brigham Young University, which has enjoyed more than five decades of sustained success and winning.
    Jake then answered listener questions from the Locked On Cougars Insiders group as he addressed what BYU basketball and Kevin Young are doing to fill out his coaching staff, what the best-case scenario for BYU football this fall would be and what the chances of Jaxson Robinson withdrawing his name from the NBA Draft and returning to BYU are, among other questions.
    Finally, the show wrapped up with Jake taking to his soapbox ot warn that college athletics needs to steer clear of private equity firms who are circling like sharks with the NCAA on the verge of a landmark settlement that will see BYU Athletics and other schools be able to revenue share with their athletes to the tune of up to $20 million annually.

    5 and 7 again. Maybe 4 and 8. 6 and 6 would be nice but not holding my breath.

      Yeah after watching them lose steam by game 5 last year, it didn’t seem like they really cared, I don’t see them doing any better this year, sadly unlike the Utes coaching staff, our coaches just don’t care nearly as much :(

      Yeah. 5 and 7 would be a good start 6 and 6 is a great finish. They just don’t have the same level of talent as the UTES and the Jayhawks. We will see.

      I was at BYU when basket ball was no 1 and the football program was hurting until the marines came to the rescue. Here we are with new coaches at areas which were lacking last year. Yes and I felt there was a lack of hope especially towards the last part of the season. I blame that on the lack of good coaching. So here we go not a single down played new coaches and if you listen to the players like Conner Pay and others I have heard interviewed, a resurgence in the attitude and desire to play their hearts out. But you so called fans have already written the team off. Let's at least give them a chance before we bury them!

    Jake.... you are gonna love this one.... 6-6???? Seriously? So.... , I'll just say it. You think that just 3 Conference wins, if BYU wins their first 3 non-Conference games, is successful and competitive in the B12? BYU has 9 Conference games and winning just 3 should be an indicator of being competitive? Claiming that BYU is a FOOTBALL CENTRIC University is a Pipe Dream if THAT is the thought. I get that I have been hard on ARod and Kalani. But the last two seasons has shown one thing, these guys are mostly likely straight up inept proven out by their actions. Not the conjecture swirling around them. It's become obvious that ARod is rigid in his approach to scheming to his teams talents & strengths and seriously light on his ability to develop QB's... After what was done to Slovis last season and the 'bail out' excuses of injury? (please send me a link to any interview with Slovis claiming he was injured the last 3 games of last season) Watching you, Jarom Jordan and the Y's Guys try to promote Retzlaff over Bohanon basically proves my point. You bring in a B12 Champion QB and an 0-4 QB is going to start? That points at ARods inability to teach and lead to me. Please explain the difference in circumstances between Gerry Bohanon and Cam Rising at Utah? Conference Champions. Both Injured. Both missed seasons. And with that Comparison, why is Cam going to lead Utah to a B12 Championship and Bohanan going to ride pine? Personally, I think BYU has the horses to do better than 6-6 even with a gauntlet of a schedule. BYU doesn't have an OC and HC good enough to do better than 6-6 is the point of all this. If BYU goes 6-6? It's time for a change. The only REDEEMER should be if BYU goes 6-6 AND BEATS Utah this year. Beating the projected Conference Champion could be considered buying Kalani another year...

    I no longer have confidence in BYU football. I'll admit that I am biased. I have always been a basketball fan (started with games in the Smith Fieldhouse and Kresimir Cosic) and am ecstatic with what is happening with BYU basketball. However, I currently have little confidence in football and if things go south again this year, Kalani (who I have supported from day 1) needs to go and Jay Hill needs to take his place. Kalani is a great guy but has harmed the program but keeping ineffective assistant coaches way too long.

    I don't get why anybody thinks the O- line will better this year when BYU returns the same line as last year minus their best player.

    Face it, you guys will go 5-7 😂 if only byu put as much energy into winning football games as they their social media they might have a chance to be good.
    Maybe…just maybe yall should stop doing player interviews every other day TALKING ABOUT how good they’ll be rather than just keeping quiet and showing it in game day.
    But instead byu media hyped everyone up and then they just get shit on by teams tearing peoples expectations hahaha 😂
    I told yall last year you guys would go 5-7 took alot of heat when everyone said 8-4 look who was right ☝🏽🤓

    If A-ROD doesn't get his head on straight with play calling, recruiting "especially the quarterback position" the COUGARS are doomed this season and because of his lack luster recruiting the COUGARS could be doomed for several years to come!!!

      The season hinges on the new offensive line coach. Funk was not a good coach at BYU.

    • @kendalldean9612
      @kendalldean9612 Місяць тому +2

      Agree with the comment on Funk, but Kalani should fire poor performers much sooner. He has set the pgm back 3 years with his untimely decision making.

    • @defylogictech
      @defylogictech Місяць тому

      @@kendalldean9612 I agree with you. Kalani allowed the Tuiaki dilemma to go on far too long, IMO it was because Tuiaki was running the Defense that Kalani wanted him to run. It overshadowed the need to send Funk down the road as well. That ARod wasn't clamoring for Funk to be sent down the road showed just more weakness in ARod's abilities and decisions. Clarks firing was purely a smoke screen to buy ARod another season. The Tight End performance was dictated on ARod's scheming and NOT Clarks failures to prep the Tight Ends to succeed. Watching Hoker LEAVE mid-season and go to Colorado State and be an All-Star puts an exclamation on the point that ARod's inability to identify and scheme around elite talent is one of his biggest failings. It also allowed the 2023 season to be literally a 'throw away' season. Much like this one is going to be with some of the propaganda and decisions that have already been made.... (like talking up a 6-6 record as being competitive, and the Blue Media rallying around Retzlaff being the Starting QB which I believe is what ARod is thinking) And I'll use this point as my logic.... Slovis, Brooks and Robbins were PROVEN commodities. The Talent and the Stats were there on all three of these players. None of them were Failures. The common denominator between the 3? ARod and an Abysmal OLine both in the 22 and 23 seasons. Excuses and Injury have been piled on these 3 players to scape goat the coaching. Just a fact....

    The current head football coach let these
    D coaches be so lazy. In recruiting. They were only finally fired when coach S was forced to. So yes they need to turn every stone, which they haven’t done in the past. Also we’re without a strong QB just a bunch of so so QBs that is also on coach S. He has not managed his assistant coaches well. That is on coach S.
