This is Lex in defiance. If he’s going to survive, it’s on his own terms. All he wants to do is forge his own path. His OWN way.
Protecting Earth also means protecting everyone on it. Waller honestly didn't care if even a handful of humans weren't saved. She was willing to let a school bus full of kids die on a bridge, she released all the prisoners to spite Sam Lane, which almost led to Ivo destroying the entirety of Metropolis, and she unlawfully imprisoned dozens of innocent people who she then experimented on with Kryptonian tech. That and she went on a power trip when she invoked Marshall Law in Metropolis.
This is what I love about Waller. She embodies the ideology, "for the greater good." And all the pitfalls that entails. Fundamentally, she is genuinely trying to do what is best for her country. But often paves the way to hell. That's what makes her a good antagonist that can also be a reluctant ally.
To be fair, Lex doesn’t/didn’t have a way to help, he’s just a scientist right now, only so much he can give in support, and the support he gave was taken over by Brainiac.

Well considering that Darkseid is probably responsible for Kryptonian extinction(or rather total genocide of this race), i think Brainiac managed to analyse and then make something similar to it.
@@OdinRuZero [spoiler warning] Brainiac destroyed Krypton after they tried to make peace with an enemy they were fighting (possibly Apokolips) and didn't want to be decommissioned, not Darkseid, but I agree that this attack here may have been inspired by Darkseid's Omega Beams if Apokolips was the foe the Kryptonians fought against.

@@danthewafflelord3059Yeah, Waller’s got a list of dirty dealings the length of a football field. Was only a matter of time till something backfired and bit her.
She got labeled a fugitive because everything that transpired was by her orders. The illegal experiments on prisoners, the illegal arrests of journalists and media personnel, the smear campaign against Superman and moreover the blatant disregard for civilian casualties. Braniac wouldn't have an army of Metallos if Waller didn't order their creation.
Considering this version of Lex is not the supergenius powerhouse he normally is, it makes perfect sense that he runs away. I mean, what the fuck can a 20-something techie like him do? At least Waller has military training backing her up. Luthor does not. Without his tech, he's a civilian just like the rest of us.
Yes but you don’t understand, people don’t like Lex, so they latch on to any perceived flaws in order to justify their dislike. Even if what he did is exactly what you’re supposed to do in a disaster scenario, GTFO and stay out of the professionals way
Yes the 20 year old with no weapons, armor, combat training or even muscles running from a fight he literally can't do anything to effect running is cowardly. That's called being pragmatic dude.
You know, Amanda Waller isn’t the most popular character, but I prefer the version of her from the animated series Batman, Superman, Batman beyond, Justice league, Justice league unlimited, all those ones.
I mean it's logical to run away against unlikely odds. and luthor's strength is technology so I can see a reason that he ran to try to create a solution somewhere else. I won't pretend he did. but there is little a scrawny ass nerd can do against robots and a giant star killer unless he can make something. most comic book luthors have him well built and bald. this luthor isn't either. and the other luthor feels like he could try to do something relatively quickly but this one... there isn't a logical reason to try rushing in here. he isn't at all well built to do anything physical like many other luthors. I admit, I don't like Luthor running away to save himself. Running away to reach a position where he can do something, every damn day, absolutely. But Luthor is a character that shouldn't be a coward, just a severe pragmatist. He'll never die for a hopeless cause, but he won't cut and run at the first sign of trouble either. I hope this gets addressed in Season 3. That he was trying to sort something out to deal with the Metallos, but wasn't fast enough. It would fit with his actions in this scene, his general characterization, and continue to drive a wedge in between him and Superman (because Superman saved the world while Luthor was trying to cobble together some miracle solution of his own).
…So wait, I’m confused. Was it Darkseid that attacked Krypton before Brainiace destroyed it or was it just Brainiac that whole time because apparently he has Omega Beams too.
Krypton was at war with somebody strong. So strong that they started peace talks (cease-fire was about to be announced). Brainiace as war A.I. saw this as betrayal and activated some WMD that destroyed Krypton.
@@andreayton1586 That’s what I’m thinking too but in a flashback earlier in this season we see purple Omega Beams which may be Darkseid’s compared to the ones we see in here. But I’m assuming that once Brainiac made his move, Darkseid misunderstood the situation and attacked as well.

You gotta hand it to Waller. She was trying to prep the Earth for an unprecedented threat. It’s not her fault she was up against a civilization centuries ahead of hers, and an AI that was able to single-handedly destroy said civilization. Aside from the free speech crackdowns, she did all right all things considered.
Lex luthor is like the starscream of this show im betting when the next season comes around and near the end he just decides to dip and leave slade for dead when he asks for help on whatever next big threat comes to earth and that he just runs away and when the last episodes end credits scene rolls up it shows luthor in another building making another plan to kill superman. The only difference between luthor and starscream is luthor is a leader of the legion of doom maybe not yet but im betting later down the line if this series if it goes that far that it will happen as for starscream who will never become leader and will spend the rest of his days being megatrons punching bag "STARSCREAM GO GET ME A SANDWICH"
She may be the most hated in the show, but you got to admit, the woman has courage! Luthor joined task force X not to sure his country, to get pay back on superman for making him loose his job.
Either that, or much like Lex, they all just bailed. But, at least Waller did her duty, like the Bad-Ass governmental anti-heroine that we all love to hate and hate to love! 0:54
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I understand Lex Luther in this scene. Like what was he supposed to do? His Tech was hacked and the city was going under, at that point he had no say in how this all went down. He was smart to run.
You may not like Walker or her methods and lack of morals and say what you will about her as it probably all true, but at least she is no coward and stands by her convictions and does her duty, so you got to respect her for that at least.
This reminds me of Vegeta when he's resisting Babidi's mind control and then said "You may have invaded my mind and my body, but there's one thing a Saiyan always keeps. His PRIIIDE!!" Also, Saiyans won't give a damn about our "Indomitable Human Spirit" anyways.
Now I’m not the biggest fanboy out there. I didn’t read much of the comics as a kid or anything. But I didn’t see a lot of the animated shows over the years and such and no matter the continuity. There is one thing that I have never been able to figure out. Why does Lex Luther hate Superman so much? I’ve never understood this. I know when one of the earliest versions of the animated story. It’s due to an accident, but aside from that I’ve never been able to really figure out why this is the case. I mean, is it xenophobia? Is it some kind of jealousy? Is there a valid reason? Or is it simply because he’s just an outright asshole?
It’s… complicated. Especially given how many different versions of Lex there are. But to sum up some of the general reasons >Lex sees himself as the pinnacle of human ability. The guy is a genius, insanely charismatic, has more money than God, and is in great physical shape. So the idea that he is completely outclassed by this alien who just needs to sunbathe to get strong rankles him in the worst possible way. >Lex refuses to accept that Superman is a genuinely good guy. His logic basically amounts to “if I had Superman’s powers, there’s no way I wouldn’t become a despot. And if I couldn’t do it then nobody else could”. Superman not just being physically more capable than Lex, but also being much stronger morally hurts Lex’s pride too much, so he has to believe that Superman is just playing the long game pretending to be nice. >some personal injury. Depending on the continuity Superman was somehow tangentially involved with something bad that happened to Lex, such as failing to save him from something or perhaps foiling one of his plans. Sometimes Superman is the reason Lex is bald >Superman is just a thorn in Lex’s side. Lex wants to do something, Superman stops him, rinse and repeat. Anyone would get annoyed at the guy who constantly foils them. So Lex *has* to get rid of Superman before he can do anything else because Superman doesn’t let him do anything else >it’s the challenge. Lex is already so far beyond the average human that the only being that can genuinely test him is a god. He doesn’t just want to take down Superman because he personally hates the guy, he wants to take down Superman to prove he can So basically it’s a combination of narcissism, jealousy, and a touch of paranoia all wrapped up in a lovely justification of “I don’t want to depend on Superman”
And what was he supposed to do? He doesn’t have powers, he doesn’t have more money than god, he doesn’t have an arsenal of super weapons, he’s not even in particularly good shape. There was literally nothing he could contribute to the situation other than another corpse to the pile. It’s common sense that if a disaster is occurring and you are not a trained professional with the proper equipment to handle it you get out of the way and let the professionals work
@@CultureCrossed64 Luthor acts like a god because he is at the apex of human intelligence with the resources of a mid sized country at his disposal. Pretty sure Brainiac would compare that to having a small pebble thrown at him, and it wouldn't hurt him.
That and she went on a power trip when she invoked Marshall Law in Metropolis.
thats Waller for you, bad to the bone in every universe.

Somehow this shocks everyone involved.
Also, Luthor running away makes perfect sense. He can't stop the robots, and he doesn;t have the kind of tech DCAU Luthor had. Bizarro however would have some problems accepting their friendship cuz he hates to be compared to superman and be reminded of his clone nature, also he would be really attached to luthor, like checking on him when he works too much and does not sleep enough or eat properly but luthor would push him away...in a similar relationship to Ivo and lex, just slightly better cuz of bizarro kindnesses

Well looks like we be getting Cyborg Superman sooner than expected
We as humans may not have powers.
But we got one thing that no other species in the universe has. GUTS!!!
This reminds me of Vegeta when he's resisting Babidi's mind control and then said "You may have invaded my mind and my body, but there's one thing a Saiyan always keeps. His PRIIIDE!!"
Also, Saiyans won't give a damn about our "Indomitable Human Spirit" anyways.
But to sum up some of the general reasons
>Lex sees himself as the pinnacle of human ability.
Sometimes Superman is the reason Lex is bald
>Superman is just a thorn in Lex’s side. Lex wants to do something, Superman stops him, rinse and repeat. Anyone would get annoyed at the guy who constantly foils them. So Lex *has* to get rid of Superman before he can do anything else because Superman doesn’t let him do anything else
>it’s the challenge. Lex is already so far beyond the average human that the only being that can genuinely test him is a god. He doesn’t just want to take down Superman because he personally hates the guy, he wants to take down Superman to prove he can
So basically it’s a combination of narcissism, jealousy, and a touch of paranoia all wrapped up in a lovely justification of “I don’t want to depend on Superman”
All Luthor’s speeches about protecting the planet from aliens and here he is running 🏃 without looking back 😂 cowards talk the most
And what was he supposed to do? He doesn’t have powers, he doesn’t have more money than god, he doesn’t have an arsenal of super weapons, he’s not even in particularly good shape. There was literally nothing he could contribute to the situation other than another corpse to the pile. It’s common sense that if a disaster is occurring and you are not a trained professional with the proper equipment to handle it you get out of the way and let the professionals work
@PikachuLittle even if that's the case. Luthor ACTS like a god. So he should stay and act like it instead of pretending he's better than superman
@@CultureCrossed64 Luthor acts like a god because he is at the apex of human intelligence with the resources of a mid sized country at his disposal.
