I really love the fact that Kryptonian is not immediately magically comprehensible in this continuity, making Clark having to chip bit by bit to discover more about his heritage being a big part of his journey as a character instead of just back story setup. Especially since it's something that makes sense yet is unique because most Superman adaptations haven't tried it.
I also love that Kryptonian language is very harsh and seems antagonistic. That Clark is getting the worst introduction of his people. It's found it comparable to somebody from Germany growing up in Britain after WW2. It's a really great take on the mythos of Krypton and I'm surprised it wasn't done before...
It fits in really well with how he discovers new powers each episode. He's chipping away at his identity in both senses, instead of having everything frontloaded and comprehensible immediately.

Bit of a non sequitur but... Overly Sarcastic Productions (in one of their several videos on Superman) mentioned that probably the biggest problems with Superman, but he's evil, as a subversion of a trope is that baseline Superman is ALREADY a subversion of a trope. One of the biggest tropes in real world history even. Power corrupts. Even good people, when given power, do bad things with it. Baseline Superman looks directly at that idea and says, "But what if not?" and creates someone with so much power it approaches the limits of what a human mind can easily comprehend WHO ALWAYS DOES GOOD WITH IT! On the other hand, if the idea that someone with incredible power won't abuse it has become so baseline that stories are switching it back and thinking that's original... Maybe Superman's done his job better than most realize.
They most likely have power that isn't attached to the main grid, they'd have backups. And also, considering some of the videofeeds are on, it's not like it's ALL the pwoer.
I've watched all episodes and caught up this days. Until Sunday I had no idea this show existed, or maybe I've heard about but I forgot it as I wasn't expecting to have a new show and this time to get Superman right. I was burned out of edgy Supermen or a Superman that gets beating often like in Young Justice because the creators had no idea how to beat the "Superman is overpowered and boring" allegations.
I love seeing a hopeful superman who wants to be a good guy. There are way too many evil supermen or even worse cynical sad superman who forgot how to have fun stories out there. At some point superman gets turned into batman because writers think the character needs 9 more edges to have a good narative.
Y'wanna know the exact moment I knew this show was a perfect Superman adaptation? When Ma Kent actually took the time to put the red shorts back onto Clark's costume. THANK YOU, MARTHA!
I find it very obnoxious when people say that Superman is "boring" or "unrelatable" or that he needs to be "more dark" or whatever. If you can't understand this character, that says something bad about YOU not him.
Superman is boring as a character and always has been. There isn't a lot you can do with invincible super God to make him interesting. He's a product of an era where Superheroes were one note cardboard cutouts that had a specific weakness like the color yellow, or in Supermans case, Kryptonite. Somebody being literally invincible isn't interesting and doesn't leave much wiggle room. Even the "Good" Superman stories like (What Ever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow) aren't even that amazing in the first place. Superman gets hit with a nuke and is completely fine. Even in Dark Knight Returns when nuclear winter blocks the sun out for weeks, you know, the thing that powers Superman? Superman is totally fine and is still just as powerful and just as invincible after not being exposed to sunlight for a month. There's a reason all of Superman's villains are "Bad guy with Kryptonite", "Robot with Kryptonite" or "Evil Kryptonian" MAWS making Superman less indestructible was the only way they could even get the show to work. They had to nerf his canon powers and make him weaker than he normally is portrayed or the show would literally fall apart. Comic book Superman would never have even faced an actual threat if he was in MAWS. It would have been the most one sided thing in history. Even when Superman DIES in comics, he comes back from the dead almost immediately.
@@Elfenlied8675309 The core of the character is not the specific power levels. Go ahead and make him weaker or whatever, that's not what I'm talking about.
@@ashuebot-tabi4449 Alright, I admit to being hyperbolic. That comment was aimed more at the people making media rather than those watching or not watching anyway.
This show has given me a new found appreciation for Superman I never had before. For most of my life, I’ve always viewed Superman as “the icon” and not as an actual character. I saw him more as an object or an idea than a tangible person . . . But this show has completely turned that around for me. This version of Superman is one of the best incarnations of Superman I’ve ever seen, 2nd only to Christopher Reeve’s Superman. As a fan of Steven Universe, I see a lot of Steven in this version of Superman in the best ways! He’s so kind and charming, but he’s also sympathetic and surprisingly complex, which I especially admire and appreciate. This is the version of Superman I can rally behind! This is the Superman I never knew I wanted and I’m very thankful for it. :)
I loved everything about this series, and your analysis of patterns is spot on. I particularly like that in the "Hearts of the Fathers" episode, in which the fathers are absent, antagonist, or apathetic. And then a lovely scene at the end with the "Kryptonian General" having the same voice as Martha. I think we're gonna see Lara in a new light.
My favorite part about this is that “Clark Kent” isn’t a persona. His clumsiness is REAL. He really is that much of a nervous guy. I love All Star Superman, but in that version, Clark Kent pretends to be an idiot.
I don't think any adaptation of Superman showcases better why he and Lois fall for each other. They truly are a fantastic team and bring out the best in each other. Even when they fight, you see the logic behind their grievances, it feels organic and thoughtful, and they themselves fix things by learning to go past their ego and trust one another. it's so wholesome and adorable, and shows why Superman and Lois will always be my favorite couple in comics.
After having watched Season 2, this video is even better than Pretentious might have thought. The themes that were touched on in this video, they continued in the exact way this video kind of predicted, in a way that furthers those themes and ideas naturally. Good video.
I really like that this Superman is kind, caring, funny and hopeful but he's also playful, snarky sometimes, with a bit of sass too. You don't gotta make him a prick to be "interesting".
As long as the power creep isn't idioticlly insane like recent comics I might actually start to like Superman again because of this show, gonna start watching it today, wish me luck
I adore this show. The show is absolutely delightful and so heartwarming. I am beyond excited for the next season. The only thing I was not particularly been fond of really is most of the villains. So far other than General Lane, none of them feel particularly well explored or interesting and I'm not fan of all of their powers being the result of Kryptonian technology. So far my favourite villain has been Mr. Mxyzptlk who hasn't had any connections to Krypton and while I don't think he is quite up to par with Gilbert Gottfried's Mxyzptlk, he's still great. Deathstroke is the one I think I was most disappointed in because he felt like a generic edgy anime character. And regarding Deathstroke, it's just a little hard for me to take him seriously when he sounds like Jerry from Rick and Morty and Cyril from Archer. I will say that I really am intrigued by what they're doing with Lex Luthor supposing that Alex is the show's Lex.
I was personally disappointed by Mr. Mxyzptlk, not really liking the "chaos god lol" angle. I understand the show didn't have as many episodes as it wanted to, but I'd rather have had the League of Lois be its own separate episode so that we could have had an entire episode of Mr. Mxyzptlk trolling Superman for no reason other than his own amusement.
@@markcochrane9523 yeah, the fun of Mxy is the he's Superman's Superman. Impossible to attack head on so Clark has to use his wits to get one over, meanwhile Mxy just messes around to fill time. The design is also a major downgrade from the midget in a top hat.
Idk, MAWS Mxy doesn't channel the fun of Mxyzptlk, in that he's a 5th dimensional troll that Superman can't even harm, so with his smarts he sends him back.
I am so glad he’s finally doing a video because all the right notes. which is why I resonated with my adventures with Superman. that first season was great and I am definitely looking forward to season two!
After knowing so much incidentally of the relationship of typical Lois and Clark dynamic, she only loves Superman while thinking nothing of Clarke, hearing about a show where its actually a realistic attraction without the power is the type of wholesome I didn't know I wanted. Really wish I knew about this earlier so thanks for doing a video on it.
Whoeveer thought they should create a kind, friendly Superman TV-show is going places and I'm watching their career for the next best thing! As well as the idea of making Lois Lane a tan Tom-boy in anime.
This series is the best Superman I've seen in a long time relating more to the classics and also adding a spin that seems light-hearted pure and and in some way bring back the clack I know in love when I was a kid please make more seasons
8:53 Something i would like to point is that they are a gay couple Yes its a talking monkey and a brain on a jar But they are also a gay couple that just exist and the message of Clark believing in a world were everyone can be accepted greatly resonates with that idea with the segregation making a lot of people just hide who they are because they don't believe the world can get better But Superman pushes people to believe in a change and thar he can make it better A world were a talking gorila and a brain in a jar don't have to hide A world were two man can fall in love and nobody says anything And of course, a world were a kid adopted by a family from another country can fit in and be happy without having to question who is he in regards to his herritage and his new life cause both are part of who he is
This is the best Superman story I've seen in a long time. Glad you agree -- definitely gave me the extra push to find my HBO login after they booted me out of the HBO Max app when it automatically updated to just MAX. As others have said -- the Superman we strive toward, the fun, the optimistic, the happy Superman, but not meaningless fluff, but happy and hopeful in spite of the world's crap -- this show captures it. Plus the best versions of Lois and Jimmy par none.
I kinda feel like a lot of people are a bit too enamored with the 'hopeful superman' aspect, while also feeling defensive against the dudebro types that will be all like "something something woke show bad". The one (or two) key aspect I wanna highlight is the "secret identity revealed" part, especially in a post Across the Spiderverse world. "A secret is just a lie" line is just flat out wrong. And the show doesn't seem to realize that not all secrets are equal. The point being the trans parallels. And that Lois and Clark had only known each other for like 5 days, like why would he tell her a big part of his identity that he has reason to believe would cause people to ostracize him. Clark is not obligated to out himself to Lois. Even if they are friends. And it doesn't really help that in the next episode, Lois gets mad that Jimmy didn't tell her that Clark was Superman. ("Why didn't you out your friend when the friend themselves didn't know that you knew"). Even more not helped that in that episode, Mallah and Brain tell Jimmy (a black guy), that he doesn't know what discrimination is like. Jimmy's anecdotal response that couldn't compare would have been funnier if he were white (because it would have been making fun of straight white privilege), and that bit kinda feels like "race-blind writing", where they kinda just assume that the races are interchangeable, kinda like what happened with Wednesday (with the mayor character and his son) There's more like the journalism aspect and the lois/clark relationship being very rushed to the point where it feels like they didn't know they were getting a second season, so they put them together as soon as possible. And of course, the one thing everyone has pointed out, that the villains kinda suck, like they don't even get good drip.
Fair enough, while I do agree all secrets are not equal I think the show was more about the need for vulnerability and trust between people especially Ina relationship.
You realize the show doesn’t try to present Lois as right, correct? Also we don’t ignore anything past the hopeful Superman. It’s just bringing back a hopeful Superman after years of edgy Zack Snyder bullshit is what was needed.

I fell in love with this show after the first episode, and had been waiting since it was first announced. Definitely didn’t disappoint and I can’t wait for season 2. It feels really good to be getting so much Superman stuff this year with more to come in the future after such a drought of empty promises and darker edgier stories. And while I do love the DCEU takes, it’s nice to have this return to form of the Superman that I know and love. It’s hard to watch the show or any clips of it and not have a goofy smile on my face. Superman fans are finally winning this year
It's so silly that western writing was obsessed with cynicism and darkness for so long, when the (at least in the 90s & 2000s) up & coming medium of anime in American culture is so unabashedly sincere & optimistic. I'm old enough to have seen anime go from weird counterculture to a staple of a plurality of American's media diets, and I think a lot of it has to do with Japan doing American optimism & heroism better than America over the past 20 yrs. I hope the pendulum is finally swinging back from the burnt out arthouse ppl to the enthusiast nerds like in the golden age of American comics & fiction, I'd love to see more 21st century Asimovs rather than another three decades of tired cyberpunk
Good on you for recognizing just how excellent this series is. It deserves to be further hyped -- and Lord knows WB certainly isn't going to be providing it in its current state.
I never know what to expect with your essays except for one thing: that I will feel and be inspired. This one in particular hit home with me. Fighting against cynicism and misanthropy is incredibly hard, especially in a world that seems to reward a lack of faith in humanity and promotes ruthlessness and the idea of stepping on and over others to get what you want. Many people give up the fight just to get by and cope with an increasingly apathetic world. Trying to maintain one's ideals can seem farcical and even Sisyphean, but I believe is a worthwhile struggle in and of itself, if nothing else as an expression of the unwillingness to let go of hope.
Yes I thought it was a great touch that Kryptonian was a different language in this series. I was finally able to binge it the other day and it's got so many great qualities to it. It kinda reminded me of the Superman from the Legion of Superheroes. I really hope it gets a Season 2.
I think an important thing this show emphasizes is that too much cynicism and pragmatism has tendency to do the opposite effect. The general and task force x do believe they are doing good by the whole "tough times call for tough actions" but their whole philosophy falls apart when that very untrusting pragmatism starts causing infighting and more collateral damage
I love the Mallah and The Brain were straight up good guys and lovers. Also did anyone else notice their army of mutants really resembled the gunmen mechas from Gurren Lagann?

Pretty sure it has the first ever gay kiss in a children's cartoon so it's weird that you are trying to make some homophobic point while using the Owl House of all shows lmao. It is literally THE gay cartoon for kids. So I found that hilarious. Velma was the highest watched premiere of a cartoon ever in history, so I'm not sure what point you were even attempting to make. Velma was watched by more people than Harley Quinn, Owl House, or Brave and the Bold combined together. What could you have ever meant by that? Views = Good? The Parasite battle at the end felt really forced. I wish we got more time where we got to bond with the civilians so we could then see the effect and trust Clark got from his good deeds.
For younger Superman? He definitely does. He doesn't start as the completely experienced and sure of himself Man of Steel. The best Superman stories have always involved his doubt and self-reflection in one way or another; telling it in this specific way is certain unique and genuinely interesting compared to a lot of other depictions.
Zach Snyder could never make a show like this. He intrinsically doesn't believe in altruism, so he could never make a movie about a Superman who wants to help because it was the right thing to do.
I loved this show and not just because of Tom boy Lois Lane who had the internet skimping when it came out. No it’s for going back and telling a good story of a young Superman becoming the hero we know he is. People looked down on it as being another leftist show because they changed a few characters around. But in the end it’s not about Tom boy Lois’s or black jimmy Olsen’s or even gay super intelligent gorillas. It’s about hope, and someone given incredible power and choosing to do good with it. It’s hard to accept someone just wants to help. Most other superheroes have to learn from there mistakes to be good. Spider-Man capitalizes on his powers for money only to end up accidentally getting uncle Ben killed. Tony stark has to be nearly killed, disfigured and kidnapped by the very weapons he made to become Ironman. Superman is raised a caring Compassionate soul who sees his powers as the danger they could be if he was to allow himself to give into baser urges. The world around him might as well be made of tissue paper and cardboard. Show so beautiful in those first episodes where he keeps breaking clocks and handles. Yet he never hurts anyone even when can’t help but save people. The restraint that must take the patience.
10:18 "Vicki Vale is Lois' ideal self" Fitting then that Vicki's character design resembles many past Lois designs more than her own traditional designs.
They set up a parallel between the two, but I don't think the writers actually caught on to what they've done. Vicki Vale wants to spread negative lies to the public about Superman because she hates him, but halfway through the season Lois Lane wants to spread positive lies about Superman because she likes him. I don't think that was quite accurate though. I think it's more accurate to say that Lois *thought* Vale was her ideal self... but then she got a look at the truth behind the legend, and it helped crystalize what kind of reporter Lois wanted to be.
Maybe Superman's done his job better than most realize.
i think its neat that clark in this show has the same character arc as the iron giant except he doesnt have a superman to look up to
He does! Every morning he looks into the mirror.
Oh man that’s genius
clark IS superman and lois and jimmy already knew that. lois was never dating clark without knowing he was superman.
Oh my gosh…gonna go cry
Wow. Hadn't even thought about that. Damn, that's good.
"Turn off your power"
Metropolis Central Hospital: "welp..."
They most likely have power that isn't attached to the main grid, they'd have backups.
And also, considering some of the videofeeds are on, it's not like it's ALL the pwoer.
@@theonejackal89 Also if Parasite was draining a hospital, probably worse than turning off the power
Surgeon: I mean, hey, the big leech monster's gonna shut it off for us otherwise.
Man, I'm just glad we have another animated Superman show.
At some point superman gets turned into batman because writers think the character needs 9 more edges to have a good narative.
a lot of modern superhero writers want Superman to be Batman and they want Batman to be the Punisher
There's a reason all of Superman's villains are "Bad guy with Kryptonite", "Robot with Kryptonite" or "Evil Kryptonian"
MAWS making Superman less indestructible was the only way they could even get the show to work.
This is a dumb comment. Not liking Superman isn't indicative of some moral failing, nor does liking him make you better.
@@ashuebot-tabi4449 Alright, I admit to being hyperbolic. That comment was aimed more at the people making media rather than those watching or not watching anyway.
Mhm, I can confirm, I don’t like superman and I’m a huge asshole
Highly recommend checking out DCAU Superman from Superman: The Animated Series. This Superman felt like a return to that form.
@@sageoverheavenoh yeah STAS was good.
Season 2 can't get here soon enough. Everything about it was great.
Shut up all star superman didn't pretend to be an idiot bro
Clark's facial expression while saying "YOU JUMPED OFF THE ROOF I DONT KNOW WHAT TO THINK" was priceless
"I am not a gun."
~the iron giant, and it's superman interpertation.
I love this show so much
I love this channel so much
I wasn't going anywhere with this, just doing what I can to boost engagement
I don't think any adaptation of Superman showcases better why he and Lois fall for each other. They truly are a fantastic team and bring out the best in each other. Even when they fight, you see the logic behind their grievances, it feels organic and thoughtful, and they themselves fix things by learning to go past their ego and trust one another. it's so wholesome and adorable, and shows why Superman and Lois will always be my favorite couple in comics.
"I see now that it is not the circumstance of one's birth, but what one chooses to do with the gift of life that determines who you are."
Thanks, Mewtwo.
Yeah Chris Parnell doesn't exactly have the same menace as Ron Perlman as Slade pretty hard to live up to
He's a younger version. Just like the other villains kind of like how 2004 batman is more laid back at times
Before this show, I liked Superman. After this show, Superman is my favorite hero
I am so glad he’s finally doing a video because all the right notes. which is why I resonated with my adventures with Superman. that first season was great and I am definitely looking forward to season two!
I haven’t watched this but have seen a lot of clips about it. From this alone, I can see why it has gotten the traction it deserves.
Lois isn't supposed to be tan I don't think, she's just Korean.
@@Elfenlied8675309there's nothing to imply she's Korean, she just has a darker skin tone. either from a tan or race, i wouldn't know

This series is the best Superman I've seen in a long time relating more to the classics and also adding a spin that seems light-hearted pure and and in some way bring back the clack I know in love when I was a kid please make more seasons
I like the smart and thoughtful updates made to the Superman lore through this animated series. It's what we need from James Gunn's Superman film.
My Adventures with Superman is so great and I can't wait for the next season and hopefully it ends on its own terms without studio interference
8:53 Something i would like to point is that they are a gay couple
Yes its a talking monkey and a brain on a jar
But they are also a gay couple that just exist and the message of Clark believing in a world were everyone can be accepted greatly resonates with that idea with the segregation making a lot of people just hide who they are because they don't believe the world can get better
But Superman pushes people to believe in a change and thar he can make it better
A world were a talking gorila and a brain in a jar don't have to hide
A world were two man can fall in love and nobody says anything
And of course, a world were a kid adopted by a family from another country can fit in and be happy without having to question who is he in regards to his herritage and his new life cause both are part of who he is
This show is so sweet. And I've watched this video essay several times already.
surprisingly enjoyable show.
I loved this show. Full stop, nothing else to say, I loved it.
The way that you use your words to breakdown the show is very impressive and I believe that what you say is amazing. Keep up the good work.👍
The Smallville writers didn't know what to do with Pete.
Superman deserves a show this good
Tears left my eye- Very good work.
The quick Rocky 4 reference was fantastic.😂
Jimmy's anecdotal response that couldn't compare would have been funnier if he were white (because it would have been making fun of straight white privilege), and that bit kinda feels like "race-blind writing", where they kinda just assume that the races are interchangeable, kinda like what happened with Wednesday (with the mayor character and his son)
There's more like the journalism aspect and the lois/clark relationship being very rushed to the point where it feels like they didn't know they were getting a second season, so they put them together as soon as possible.
@@poenpotzu2865 They wasn't even in a relationship, she almost got them fired and killed on the first day because of her lies. Lois was the worse part of the main cast just outright toxic

There he is, our sweet boy scout dork. The type of person who show that kindness revolutionary. I've had a idea, if they ever do Superboy Prime as the big bad for a season he can act just like he dose in Batman V Superman.
It's an interesting idea to make Superman an Iron Giant story.
deciding to make "hope" your primary characteristic and focus on idealism alone only works if everyone around you chooses to be HONEST about their intentions. all it takes to destroy an idealist is a competent liar.
I was not expecting this to cook
Introducing Kryptonite through multiverse shenanigans was lazy. Change my mind.
I enjoyed everything about the show.
I just realized how much Jor-El looks like Odin
This was the superman I was waiting for so long as a superman fan. ❤
Omg holey cow yes! This show is amazing
Good on you for recognizing just how excellent this series is. It deserves to be further hyped -- and Lord knows WB certainly isn't going to be providing it in its current state.
"That's corny." Like Kansas?
Been waiting for this for months and that bit about no Batman for once was hilarious.
A very nice summary, and view of the show.
Hope everyone doing good and staying safe. If you need to talk to someone or need help, there are people who care. Sending support and hearts. ❤️❤️❤️
I really love this show it feels like a modern version of the Christopher reeve films
The general and task force x do believe they are doing good by the whole "tough times call for tough actions" but their whole philosophy falls apart when that very untrusting pragmatism starts causing infighting and more collateral damage
> how did you know you are bulletproof
I literally answered the same way that Clark did and it got me to pause
And cry
And cry some more
I love the Mallah and The Brain were straight up good guys and lovers. Also did anyone else notice their army of mutants really resembled the gunmen mechas from Gurren Lagann?

@@TheSaharay1 3.8/5 general review average across the board, user reviews in barely reaching the 100s, most content related to the show being summarized as "hard pass", and about 1/5th the viewership of velma... which was itself eye bleach. Yah this show did a damn good job preemptively turned off most of the fans before it even started thanks to the race swapping and general defeminization of lewis, and demasculation of clark.
To compare the draw of this show, owl house itself had about 6 times as much viewership, harley quinn had nearly 10 times as much fan reception, and Batmand the brave and the bold had a 7.4x higher reception that ballooned through its airing. This show definitely did not put its first foot forward, and the fact that the FEW people I know who actually watched it say its ~pretty good~ does nothing to make me or most people I know actually want to watch it.

@@theprophetofhate7188 #1 the expression is "put it's BEST foot forward." Don't take my word, look it up.
#2 Clark was always "demasculinized" in your terms. His world is usually wet cardboard in most versions. #3 I realize the incels and edge lords don't recall a time when Superman wasn't butch and anything different from the Snydercut wasn't automatically gay but try watching *Lois* and Clark and pretend it's really much different from this.

You're also failing to take into account that Owl House was worked on by Alex Hirsch who has an insanely loyal fanbase because of Gravity Falls (You also failed to mention that Owl House was cancelled by Disney) and Owl House is praised for it's gay representation.
Because that is a profoundly stupld argument if that is what you meant.
Also not sure exactly what you meant by "Fan reception" considering My Adventures With Superman has over double the amount of reviews Brave and the Bold has by both critics and audiences.
If you were going by IMDB as the only metric than yeah Brave and The Bold has more overall fan votes than MAWS, but Brave and the Bold also has a lower fan rating than Superman lmao.
I have always thought superman was kind of a bland character but this show made me fall head over heels in love with Clark Kent.

I liked this show more than I thought I would! But, just one personal thing that weirded me out a bit, spoilers below
The gorilla and robot being lovers. When the robot was originally a guy and GAVE the gorilla a syrum that made it human levels of intelligence. And got together BEFORE he became a robot. Kind of weird.
Monsieur Mallah and The Brain are gay in the comics. What is weird about any of that? lol

The Parasite battle at the end felt really forced. I wish we got more time where we got to bond with the civilians so we could then see the effect and trust Clark got from his good deeds.
Superman doesn’t need to find himself though, it’s not what his character is about.
For younger Superman? He definitely does. He doesn't start as the completely experienced and sure of himself Man of Steel. The best Superman stories have always involved his doubt and self-reflection in one way or another; telling it in this specific way is certain unique and genuinely interesting compared to a lot of other depictions.
The Kriptonian invasion is in the source material? I am thinking in Invincible and now I don't know which influence which.
Everyone looks so fruity (I love them all.)
"Soup or Salad sir?"
Clark: "Super Salad? No thanks! *Just a regular salad for a regular man!* "
Stoppppp cus this superman absolutely would.

when I was younger I remember going to olive garden and I legit thought they said super salad and I said "yeah I'll have the super salad"
That sounds like a dad joke.
10:18 "Vicki Vale is Lois' ideal self"
Fitting then that Vicki's character design resembles many past Lois designs more than her own traditional designs.
They set up a parallel between the two, but I don't think the writers actually caught on to what they've done.
Vicki Vale wants to spread negative lies to the public about Superman because she hates him, but halfway through the season Lois Lane wants to spread positive lies about Superman because she likes him. Replace Superman with any random politician and you'll notice their journalism is two sides of the same corrupt coin.
@@mariokarter13 what lies has Lois told to the public? Other than keeping Superman‘s identity a secret, they didn’t tell a lie.
@@mariokarter13 -- speaking of bias; it's looking more like you've got a bias against journalists than anything else, man. The only thing Lois did was keep Clark's identity a secret. That's not the same thing as Vale's muck-raking. Not even close. You took false equivalency to a whole new level.
I don't think that was quite accurate though. I think it's more accurate to say that Lois *thought* Vale was her ideal self... but then she got a look at the truth behind the legend, and it helped crystalize what kind of reporter Lois wanted to be. She had a choice between success through dishonesty, or a harder uphill slog while fighting for the truth.
