There were no restrictions on languages before 1966, it was just assumed that every country would sing in their own language. After Sweden sang in English this year, the EBU brought in the language rule.
Obviously, our television lost everithyng...That's how we italians are. We give the vote to a fascist which leaves people dying on the Mediterranean sea, and we forget any form of brotherhood, or culture....SAVE ITALY!!! SAVE MY COUNTRY!!!!

What I'm confused about is why was Sweden allowed to sing in English in 1965?
