Katie Boyle is still the best Eurovision presenter ever. She is sadly missed.
Amazing quality both in video and audio! I love this edition of the contest for its art direction (or whatever it's called). The different sceneries are so cool and no microphones been shown is also pretty inventive, I'd say. A shame we never saw something like this again in future contests.
Interesting
I suppose the LED based stages of today are an extension of this innovation.
You will see this year lol

Fun fact: People at the time thought all of the contestants used playback.
And why didnt they used microphones?
@@montserratestevezramirez833 they used microphones. But, as an innovation, the UK recorded the contest in the BBC Television Centre. I think they used those microphones, use on the sitcoms and series, where someone's holding them.
i think they did - it was not possible back than for such technology to exist - for fact it didn't happened anymore.
@@SimsMoyal They were singing 'live' (not playback) but the performances were done in front of cameras and crews at multiple soundstages within the newly completed BBC studio complex, using Boom Microphone which were common for movies, sitcoms and variety TVs at that time (hence the clean and crisp audio) not on the stage in front of live audiences like it commonly be done, the audiences sat and watched the performers from a separate studio. This format was not repeated due to other countries not having such state-of-the-art technology and the some backlash towards the format.
@@SwimmerPrince it's honestly a shame as earpieces can be a bit distracting in recent years

Listen to how formal David Jacobs is compared to Terry Wogan relentlessly shitting on the contestants, hosts, and voting. How times change.

Fun Fact: In this edition, Switzerland 🇨🇭 sung the 100th entry in the Eurovision Song Contest.
A very good edition! I liked the intro they did for each song with the light in the map. I guess it was considered very modern back then. It’s also interesting to see how few countries were back then (both in Europe and in the contest). Last note - two Israelis participated in this Eurovision - 10 years before Israel 🇮🇱 actually joined: Karmela Corren represented Austria and Esther Offarin for Switzerland

My First Eurovision. I was 9 years old, couldn't sleep and went from my bedroom into the lounge to see my parents watching the show and I was allowed to watch with them. My mother liked the Danish song and said it would win. How right she was.
Katie Boyle was marvellous. She presented four contests, 1960, 1963, 1968 and 1973. I also used to listen to her on the Radio when she presented the "Pop over Europe" programme from London and introduced music from all over the continent. She is sadly missed.

Eurovision will never be like this ever again. Such high artistic quality from a-z
Thank you so much for this video!!
This is very special. Thanks for posting. Great quality. Amazing.
Also: two different Israeli singers competed this year for different countries, ten years before Israel made their debut: Carmela Corren for Austria and Esther Ofarim for Switzerland. (We've also got Nana Mouskouri for Luxembourg, eleven years before Greece joined the contest)

As a Swede, I'm a bit sad that wonderful Monica Zetterlund didn't won Melodifestivalen the year before with "När min vän". That song would've score so much more. "En gång i Stockholm" is a beautiful composition, but it was to odd to fit in the ESC. But wow, what a good edition the ESC 1963 was. Very well produced!
Tbh it was such a strong set no one deserved 0 points
Sol och var was materpiece.
so, basically Norway changed their votes the second time they came on air, just to give Denmark the win. The first time they gave Denmark 2 votes and 3 to Switzerland. The second time they gave Denmark 4 votes and 1 to Switzerland. LOL. I also believe Dansevise was the best song but regardless of that, the actual winner was Switzerland and they were robbed by the scandinavian mafia :) Another noticeable thing was that the previous year the winner was France but they couldn't bear the cost for organizing the event for the 3rd time in the last 6 years, so UK did. Katie Boyle was amazing, of course :) Congrats to the uploader too for such a great quality video!
Is this the beginning of stage changes in ESC? I feel the like the first contests look so different. These all look like holiday specials from the 60’s, but I like it!
Did anyone realize that the Norwegian jury gave 3 points to Switzerland and 2 points to Denmark in their first vote (which was not accepted for formal reasons), and then 4 points to Denmark and 1 point to Switzerland in their second vote, when they knew that France was leading by one point. They rigged it in favour of Denmark! :-( Otherwise I very much enjoyed the whole show. You can see how the presentations have evolved, compared to the previous years.
But Denmark was better
It has later been discovered that the second result was indeed the correct one. But yeah, it's pretty suspicious.
Hilarious vote giver from Norway
Excellent quality of video. Thank you. My favorite song to win was Switzerland or Italy although the Danish song is nice too.

One controversy this year was during the voting. When it was Norway's turn to announce their votes, the spokesman in Oslo, Roald Øyen, did not use the correct procedure in that the song number, followed by the name of the country, should have been announced before awarding the points. Boyle asked Norway to repeat their results, but the Norwegian spokesman asked Boyle to return to them after all the other results were in. When Boyle went back to Norway again the votes had mysteriously altered, thus changing the outcome of the contest and giving the victory to Norway's neighbours Denmark at Switzerland's expense. In fact, the Norwegian spokesman had not given the correct votes on the first occasion, because votes from the 20 jury members were still being tallied.
