Ceremonial burial uses the Ankh for it's symbol, which makes perfect sense, and the gunpowder icon is the Flintlock mechanism, which makes perfect sense as well.
My granddad and I used to play this game side by side when I was a kid and visited my grandparents on the weekend, and I still play. The man would CONSTANTLY crush the game on Sid with, get this, the Americans. He would work on the same game save for actual weeks. I still don't fully understand how, but he would just survive until the Industrial era into the modern era. Sometimes I would play his older saves, and the map would just be full of American baby blue territory, and covered in captured cities named "Austin 1 to X", he'd name captured cities after me lol. He would play past a victory condition to literally conquer the world. When you look at the current frontlines, you just see stacks over stacks of Radar Artillery, Tactical Nukes, Mech Infantry and Modern Armor.. and captured workers that he would NUKE to get rid of so he wouldn't have to manage/wait for after ending turns lmao. Some of my favorite memories with this game. I miss that man.
Intermediate art that looked fine from a distance and left for the release. At that time it wasn't rare that unfinished or programmer art would end up in the game. More often than not the icon creation is disregarded and given to less skilled artists.
Because CIV games never relied on beautiful visuals as selling point unlike Total War games. Even today they still included the option to run CIV 6 for low end PCs.
I absolutely love this one. As a casual player of civ3, deep-dive into civ3 mechanism is also interesting but this fun poke at aesthetics was super fun
Civ 3 were my first civ, when I was 11. And it is a first videogaming love. Something you just can't undone. So I always missed for art design features in later games of series. I will just left them here cause why not. 1. Leaders appearence based on era of their development. Bald Jeanne d'Arc. Damn I really remembered the image when saw V for Vendetta. And it was so engaging and funny sometimes. Evolution of engagement is riding a wrong way with the series. 2. Abandoned feature. Definetly exessive, but... The palace view. I just liked it. 3. Another abandoned one. The most tearful for fans. And mine tears are a part of the bowl. City view. It was a level of flowing artifical ingame glory that never been brought to me by any other game. 4. The weird one. I absolutly loved the way railroad grid looked like in third civ. I was obssesive with desire to cover all my territory by railroad in fifth civ. And it look horrendous.
I love this game. The design, the gameplay... the modability (medieval and ancient era focused mods hehe) Im sad that newer civilizations are just not as good or appealing. The nostalgia vibe probably strike and help but... idk it's something that I like so much in civ3 that I can't find in others civilization.
It's nostalgia + genuinely being an amazing game. But because the game has incredible replay value, I don't think that's bad? Like, I wish I could play Mario 64 or w/e for a decade and not get bored but sadly that's not possible.
@@suedeciviii7142 If you get into romhacks or speedrunning then you can totally play Mario 64 indefinitely and not get bored, assuming you already enjoy the features of the vanilla game. Oh man I remember this thread on the server, forgot you were gonna make a video out of it. Also who just prints "TOP SECRET" in bold army-crate lettering on a manila envelope? Unless it's a decoy, you're just begging for the melting mannequin man to come steal it.
I guess it is different in countries, but in Hungary afaik it's mandatory to mark documents as secret / top secret. It's a distinction that you should not open the folder and/or should return the document to a police department or other place.
that sounds like how secret documents are typically handled elsewhere, although it's usually marked at the top of each page and there's typically a colored border around the documents (and sometimes on the folders) here, not bold block letters that might as well say STEAL ME. I think our system is derived from the USA's, but I haven't gotten a look at any American secrets. Maybe I should check my garage and/or War Thunder's forums?
Im just in the process of making tech art for my mod, so this was entertaining to watch. Ive continued the established abstractions and liminality style I think its a great way of representing the crucial idea behind a tech in a digestable and understandable (mostly) at a glance way, and its actually a rather fun challenge to figure out what fits. Hey suede, can you do an in depth analysis of naval combat, landings, establishing a foothold on another continent, and how to defend against marines and beserks. Also ranked naval units.
@suedeciviii7142 gotcha. What about all the nuances of ranged and bombard units like archers, trebuchet and in up into artillery bombers, and the thing where if an enemy walks by a tank it will bombard for one health?
Do you play this (CIV III) on a new windows operating system? I have never gotten it to work on any system prior to Vista. Any chance you could do a tutorial on how to load and operate on newer systems? thanks. I haven't played in almost 10 years now, so I get my fix watching your vids. It's the greatest game ever.

You way overthought this stuff. Go outside more.

The gunpowder icon is the firing mechanism from a flintlock musket.

The thumbnail for ceremonial burial is an ankh, the symbol of (eternal) life in ancient Egypt. I suppose it's fitting then.
Honestly this is probably gonna make me install Civ III again 😑😂

Weirdest thing about monotheism is how you can see the eye texture repeats on the bottom of the pyramid too!
