@@LaserEngraving911 I just imported a file into Lightburn from Illustrator. Inside lightburn, I ungrouped the artwork until it wouldn't ungroup anymore. Then I selected the background shape and moved it. All of the artwork was now negative. I thought that was about the easiest way. That wasn't intended by mistake of course but I thought I would share that. If you mentioned that than thanks!

Adobe is a better program than Corel draw I've never seen it in action and I'm impressed with it. This technique is you showed very handy, what I've done in the past when I only had "laser cad" is create a border, fill in the blanks with a contrasting color then disable the color I don't want to etch out.
agreed, adobe is king when it comes to what program you should be using to to prepare your art files for laser engraving, for engraving and cutting.

I did all these steps but it still looks like how the original one on the left does. do the nodes need to be grouped first or ungrouped? what I did was trace an image into a vector and then started the step process. Am I doing something wrong?

@@LaserEngraving911 aw thank you very much. Although I think I figured it out though. I was either not trimming it after I grouped the 2 images together after increasing the strokes by 0.1 inches, or I was not turning the copy image black BEFORE I grouped them together to then trim or something 🤣. But I kept playing with it making sure to do each step and I ended up getting it right. Just remembering all the steps gave me a headache lol. I wish there was a plugin or something that expedited the process a little.

I'm sure there is a similar process, I would recommend you get adobe though, as this is the industry standard for making graphics for laser engraving, its worth the money! every penny
Isn’t it possibly to just invert it in lightburn ?
Yes Ligthburn has and invert feature, however, lightburn is not a graphics design program, per say, and there are many users who use other programs like Corel, adobe, and Canva, and more to produce all the art and deigns, and then import into light burn, as LB is primarily a laser control software.
Is there any particular difference between doing this and using the negative option in light burn?
Hi Scott, I'm pretty sure there is not a 1 click button for converting "vector images to negative" in lightburn, maybe for JPEG images yes, and png, bitmaps, but not vectors, but I think you can achieve the same process with a few steps in light burn like I did here on adobe illustrator for sure though. This tutorial is for converting vector images to a negative, not jpg, png, bitmaps or other non vector formats.
@@LaserEngraving911 thanks for the quick reply,and yes I didn’t notice that it was a vector image. I suppose a second question to ask here is there any practical reason to not convert an svg to another format to then negative?
@@Scott-gg6kf Yes of course, if you know that final color of the engraving (depends on the substrate) will be darker than the foreground color (surface color), then you don't need to do this. 👍

Great tips but that’s not the same image as your thumbnail. The red one has a way thicker offset, I think your thumbnail version looks much nicer and closer to the original image 😊

This was super helpful, im taking a Longshot here but we are creating a club and need to make thousands of custom cards, anodized aluminum, entire card will be the same except for names and member numbers, if you have any suggestions on what softwares, layout programs jigs etc I would love your input. Ive played around with lightburn and an atomstack x20 pro ive made cards that i love the outcome of but i need to go from one card every 10 to 20 mins to 100 cards a day atleast. I am in over my head i know but im hoping to find some input to get me on the right path
Thanks, you will want to make a template that you can load into Light burn that has as many cards as you can fit on your working area of your laser, and have the part where the name goes "editable" then all you do is load in the cards, change the names as you see fit, and run the whole job. You can make this jig or template in adobe illustrator or lightbar, and you can cut it it out of thin wood, where the shape of each business card is cut from the wood so its easy to place. check this out.

You mean Lightburn? Yes it can, if you mean Lightroom from Adobe I'm not sure.

I think in lightburn just offset the object to .1 outward and that 1 step creates the negative image

great, now do it in Lightburn as not everyone, raises hand, has an Adobe subscription.
In lightburn all you have to do is use the offset tool and draw a line around it. keep it thin so as not to look goofy. It will then engrave black/white in opposites.
