Mine went last year, searched around and found it was a common issue, found apuljack do a direct replacement smart charger, i fitted it in 5 mins, been great since, and being a smart charger at least its looking after the battery better.
@@atlanticcaravansUK yeah, direct replacement, same size as the original, with same plugs etc simple plug and play, they even do one for lithium batteries and also if you purely go hook up only so you can ditch the battery full stop!
Hello again... I bought a new Coachman this year and that charging area is making an annoying whistling noise (which took me several days to find) sometimes for several minutes at a time. Do you know if this is one of the early signs of there being an issue?
At £150 for an original BCA replacement, I hope people are swapping them out for something higher quality, like a 10-15 amp Victron Energy charger? These are far better than the original as they are a true 'smart' charger that can be left on 100% of the time, and it will properly look after the battery rather than cooking it like the BCA chargers do. It's also really easy then to upgrade to a Lithium battery further down the line as the settings on the charger are super easy to change. Plus, comes with the Victron app to monitor what's happening...
I’ve not come across those before, they do look good but it’s probably a bit of a re wire job as it doesn’t look like they fit in the same space. And to be fair, we don’t change them that often.
Fitted one to my 2011 unicorn valencia. Fitted an external socket under the front seat connected to the mcb in the consumer unit and extended the 12v wiring with some solder connectors. Took about 30 mins to replace.

Does it fit in the same slot?
I had exactly the same. Apuljack replacement is so much better and very easy to fit.
@@atlanticcaravansUK Yes, fits in same slot with no problem

@@ashleyjohnson1908 I’ll have a look at those.

It’s probably just getting hot and the fan is kicking in. Not necessarily a problem, but could be annoying.

@@atlanticcaravansUK Looks like it's a case of cutting the plug off the RED/BLACK wires and then it's wire direct into the Victron terminals.

👍👍👍👍
if you open up the charger there's a fuse what blows as well so you don't need to replace the charger cost 50p
Good tip, I’ll have a look at that
My 2010 coachman 460 had this fail. Easy enough to change. Pity it cost £158 but the old one had lasted 10 years so I don’t think that’s bad
@@maureenheasman5897 yes, it hasn’t done bad to be fair..
