Absolutely brilliant. The price for me as a first time motorhome buyer, simply wasn't justified at around £400 so this is brilliant. Thank you so much.
A good informative video ! A friend of mine has just had his caravan valued by a dealer, to his annoyance they have put numerous prong holes in the walls.
For a caravan owner who isn't a dealer this is a great video, I have been intending to buy a caravan but am concerned about damp and I am glad that I won't have to spend hundreds for a one off use.
Hi Kimberly, if you want some more information on buying a caravan I’ve got a whole course in the subject that I need a few select people to give me some feedback on, you can sign up for the whole thing free at the moment, I’d love to know if it works of if I’ve missed anything. Go to academy.myidealcaravan.co.uk and click the sign up free button, if would be great if you could have a look for me.
Hi, I would very much be interested in this but couldn't access the link. Not sure if still available? Really useful video BTW. Looked your dealership site up but 3hrs plus away unfortunately.
I've got one of those cheap meters and it saved me from buying one of the first 4 caravans I looked at - all had damp. Those are good tips on decoding high readings - mine shows high readings for rubber, metal and some plastics behind the wallboard. One caravan had a 4 month old Habitation Report showing it was fine but I had high readings on much of one rear panel and I started to have self doubt - the genuinely surprised private seller then found a soft squishy section of wallboard so my test results were correct. I also use an Aldi pronger damp meter on my caravan - but always stick it in the same holes so the caravan doesn't get peppered with holes.
Hi, thanks, I’ll keep making them as long as I’ve got something to say. I could do with a bit of help myself. If you had five minutes to look over an online course I’ve produced to stop people making horrendous mistakes buying caravans with serious issues they didn’t know how to spot. It’s a sign up which you can opt out of any time, it would be much appreciated. I could do with some advice as to if there is enough information, or any I’ve missed, could I do something else I haven’t thought of? Whatever.. it would be good to know. It’s at www.myidealcaravan.co.uk
really informative, I enjoy watching your very helpful vids, just realised that I have not subbed yet, sorry will do now. Should you ever do a damp reading on the floor from underneath, I have a series 3 unicorn that seems very dry underneath but there is a couple patches of like white stains , but as I say its solid and bone dry inside and out. look forward to your response. many thanks
Hi, yes definitely, they can be wet underneath and dry on top and if they are found to be wet then it would need to be fixed. It’s not as tricky as fixing issues inside, but can still cost a bit to do.
You can’t as the constitution is not wood. All you can do is keep a physical eye out for water, or the signs that water has been present, stains on the furniture ect.
An interesting & informative vlog. Thank you for that. Very helpful. 😊👍

I don’t understand that, it really annoys me, I had a customer wanting to do that to one of mine, I politely said I’d appreciate it if they didn’t.
We have a Proster probe that we use to regularly check our caravan for damp. Also, have a prong one for out of the way places.
Excellent explanation Thanks
Excellent video, most helpful on the topic, thank you!
Good honest information, many thanks.😀😀😀.............

Thanks again
Can my 2017 Swift be damp tested? It uses as you know SMART construction
Hi, not with a meter as it’s GRP, it’s a visual check of the furniture and general condition.
I have a 2022 swift, how can I measure the damp ?
You can’t as the constitution is not wood. All you can do is keep a physical eye out for water, or the signs that water has been present, stains on the furniture ect.
Just ordered one
Good move..
I'm just about to. 👍
They are actually really good for at home as well
Just ordered this item in orange from Amazon for £21
