For someone who is new to these brands you sure are pretty convinced that Orion is the best on the market. How would you know that if you’re new to the brand?
Orion’s sounded like they had a fuller range. The DS18’s sounded good though. I would probably go with the Orion’s strictly because of the superior low range. I like the brightness of the highs. Looking forward to the Orion NHP’s and the new Deaf Bonce Apocalypse AP-M67AN
Hey Mike, I finally got my hands on 3 sets of the Orion HCCA 654NHP series, and HOLY S#%T this are super loud and clear. These have the 2” voice coil. They have a very linear sound. So the ones your testing on this video is the HCCA 654N I believe has the 1.5” voice coil. I love these Orion’s. Thanks again for all the videos your putting out. Really helped me choose the speakers without wasting money 🤘🏻
croslowj I found them on FB market. Some guy bought them, never used them and decided to sell them. I got lucky, bc I’ve been looking for 3 months. I even called Orion and they said their stuff was on backorder and they are getting pissed bc nothing high end is coming in.
I also own a pair of both Orion and DS-18 , it is hard to tell the difference, I think the Orion’s are louder and a little cleaner at high volume, over 100 watts , but they both like high crossover frequencies, for being 8 inch midbasses, about 150hz@12db per octave 100hz@24db per octave , if you’re running more than 150 watts increase the crossover more , then you only have to worry about thermal overload
Ds18 plays loud, but is very bright for a midrange which is a turnoff. Lacks any punch to it and just plays bright and loud. Personally, I want fuller sound from a mid, don't want it to sound like a tweeter. I'll take the Orion.
It’s all about the setup. Ds18 midrange pro calls for subwoofers in the trunk but can take more bass if tuned correctly. About to try exl 600 watt version next. I’ve heard in person and these videos are great but you just can’t do any justice to a speaker over videos. UA-cam comments have been the only place i see people wanting more bass from midrange. They should have a little bump but shouldn’t be shaking side mirrors and rearview. In the case of un-tuned speakers if you’re going the Orion route you might wanna add an 8” sub or FULL range speakers of the same size and take a little bass off the deck if not looking into heavy hitting subs.
Orion is the legend. They created pretty much the best amp ever made back in the 80’s 90’s but they’ve since been bought out. DS18 on the other hand are definitely here to fight for that top spot. The clarity is amazing from midrange and lets you hear parts of the song you wouldn’t hear otherwise. great for full setups with subwoofers.
So After Testing a Bunch Of Mid Speakers. Which one you think is the best when it comes to Very Clear Vocals even at very high Volume, because i know there are some that even at Mid Volume or Over that, they sound very raspy and alot of Distortion.
Orion HCCA654N and Orion HCCA654NHP are now discontinued 😢! Could you do a comparison of the midrange DS18 PRO-NEO6R? The PRO-NEO6R are more comparable to the HCCA64N.

@@armonnykelley1838 - gotta disagree. Heard ds18 in multiple setups. They are more of a spl then sq. They get loud for sure, but lacks the sq when they really start getting power.
Like alot of the speakers tested on here, you can tune these to sound great with a crossover, with bandpass filtering capability. The real test is longevity, and power handling . When you use these as a full range with no tweeter, the highs arent as loud as the mids , unless you have them pointed straight at your head. What im saying is the off axis response in the 5khz and up range is 3 to 10 db less , depending on the angle and the frequency. 6.5 inch and up speaker cones are not able to disperse upper frequencies as wide as the mid and low frequencies. Thats why tweeters have a small cone .
How much power are you feeding these Orion hcca speakers? Do they really need a minimum of 500 watts? I got a nice 4 channel amp I can bridge but only 200wattsx2 bridged. Will that power these or should i step down to the gtr series orions

It's not a fullrange tho, just a widerange mid.....a fullrange speaker goes from under 90hz to 20khz or above......it's nowhere near a fullrange speaker
